Despair Overwork
This chapter starts from Lolimast, Ivranmii's POV
"Ah darn it, a herd of magic beasts is heading toward the recently redeveloped town of Iruyudi. We gotta contact all nearby adventurers and those anti-demon army folk for help. Tell 'em to search and burn down the nest asap."
"Aaah!? Another herd of boar beasts are coming for Keruna Village!? Tell the villagers to evacuate right away! Use that bean or whatever to lure those boars away from the village!"
"Hohhohho. The magic beasts at 'Naraibu' have all been eradicated, good good... Though in turn, town of 'Tevarla' is having a situation with a swarm of bird beasts."
"Goshdangit! We ain't got enough hands to deal with more problems!"
Velga went off and whined at all these dizzying updates.
I get him. I really do. I would love to run away myself.
The Demon Chief on this continent was apparently killed as a collateral damage in a fight between the world's strongest couple a while ago.
Apparently half of the demon citadel here got erased while the rest got cooked... Those two are just way off. They're not right in the heads.
We were sure the demons here would turn tail and ran away, with peace coming, but we were too naive.
Remnants of demons are still turning up all over the place on this continent.
Isn't this just weird? Shouldn't they all go away once their chief got done in? We've been going on like this day after day lately, I feel like I'm gonna die from overwork soon.
At first we thought some stray magic beasts outside their territories just just happened to proliferate a bit too much by chance but there's been way too many similar incidents all over the place.
We found traces of outside party's tampering in the lairs too. They must be the same party that directed those magic beasts to raid towns.
How did we know it was demons? Because we found what were once demons as leftover fodders in some of those lairs. Urp.
Ah, wish I never learned Spirit Magic if only I knew it would come to this.
I usually use my spirits to gather info thanks to the lack of time lags and all, but that only applies to Vinfitt and the surrounding areas.
The farther it is, the slower information travels. It'll take my spirits one month to gather intel from another continent. Sending letters is faster by that point.
But it's more than good enough restricted on one continent, hence my current predicament of issuing orders while intel gathering. I'm gonna drop dead from overworking.
The grandpa combo who are dealing with the issue with me, this town's guildmaster Velga and master appraiser Filsdaim are not looking good either. Like they're one feet in the ground already.
"I mean like, aren't our continent's adventurers way weak? How many people do we need just to deal with those herds of small fry anyway."
"You have a point. It would only take two, three minutes to exterminate those beasts if it were that strongest couple."
"Those two are a special case among all special cases. We're not gonna last if monsters like those two keep popping up."
"Well we do have some promising younglings like those 'Swordsmaster' and 'Sorcerer' combo from the other day, but we're simply lacking personnel."
"Ah, those two who worked together to eliminate some beast herd somewhere, found out they were on the same wavelength and formed a party afterward. The chance of them turning out into another strongest couple... well guess it's not zero?"
"Don't hold your breath. They may be promising, but they're not cut from the same cloth. Besides, they're both men, can't quite be like those two."
"So you're saying those two may engage in a friendly skinship."
"Stop that! I've got way too much on my plate as is!"
"Fufufu, it does tickle the mind, doesn't it... I need to go to the bathroom."
"What are you planning on doing."
"Uh, the usual duh? What are you asking a lady."
I would love to excrete a lot more than bodily fluid but there's no time for that now.
Gotta get back here quick.
Heck, I'm nearing my limit.
We keep grumbling not because of fatigue. No, it's due to the lack of manpower required to resolve the issue at hand.
We're still barely managing to get by right now, but both the adventurers and anti-demon army are getting worn down by the second while the magic beasts' assaults show no sign of stopping.
It's only a matter of time until a town or two get helplessly overrun. And it won't end with just those towns.
That strongest couple may be too much to ask for but I wish we had that foolish sister of mine here at least. Just like that time with the ancient weapon, she's always nowhere to be found during crucial times.
Think she's playing instructor on the fifth continent or something right now? Forget about all that and get back here already, sheesh.
Though well, there's no way to solve this issue without using up a lot of Teleport Scrolls even if we had my foolish sister here.
Think just one Teleport Scroll is worth two million en? Where'd you get that kind of money. To hell with that.
Meanwhile, I believe Hero and Soarer-kun have an ability that lets them teleport anywhere they've been to or something? Come here right this instant, will you.
Both the Hero and Soarer-kun are currently training under the strongest couple though! Anyone will do, help us please...
I kept grumbling while staring outside on my way back to that depressing office from the toilet.
Maybe I oughta break this window and escape from this hell.
Ah, if only there were someone who could solve everything at once...
<Ivran! There is! Outside! Look outside the window!>
<Quickly! Or else he might go off somewhere! Hurry up!>
As I started contemplating escaping reality (physically), my lesser spirits (Small Silphies) made a commotion.
What? Did they see a celeb or something?
...!?
That's, that man, that black hair...!
It's Soarer-kun!!
"T,t,t,there you aaaaaaaaaare!!!"
Even I was surprised at how loud I yelled.
I wasn't thinking straight thanks to pulling an all-nighter, but finding the key person that would overturn the situation is just that big of a deal.
"Lo... Cough, cough, guild master? Long time no see."
...What did he mean by 'Lo'? I believe he said that too back then. What, you got a nickname for me in your head or something.
No wait, who cares about that. More importantly!
"S-Soarer-kun! Get over here, quickly!"
"...Please don't call me that in public out loud. What gets you so flustered, something unsavory?"
"Just, get, here, now!!"
"Okay, okay...!"
Hell yeaaaaaaah!!
With his 'Fast Travel' ability we can easily deploy personnel anywhere. He's quite strong too I'm sure.
My foolish sister mentioned how he played a role at Firie Kingdom's Royal Capital incident, I'm sure I can pin my hope on him.
We might just pull it off now, I gotta drag him to the office, stat!

~~~~~~~~~Soarer's POV~~~~~~~~~~
"It's nice to see you again, Guildmaster, and Mr. Fildsdaim. You have been such a great help."
"...Ou, back at you. The matter of that pig baron was mostly settled by those two through brute force though... Glad to have you back."
"Hohhohho. I'm finally seeing a ray of hope during this crappy situation."
Lolimast brought me to the guildmaster's office where the guildmaster and master appraiser gramps are looking far more dire than they were during Stampede as they worked on stacks of documents.
I'm told they're issuing commands to deal with raids by demon remnants, and the situation isn't looking good.
"I feared you two were gonna cause trouble all over the place but that worry was unfounded it seemed."
"Quite the contrary in fact, they've been a great help everywhere they go. Thanks again for sealing that ancient weapon back then~."
"Oh no, we had helps from so many people."
"Neia, prepare to send reinforcement to Mercenary Town 'Tevarla'. They're under attack by bird beasts, so make sure to request helps from archers and mages."
"Y-yes sir!"
Ah, Neia-san how's it going. Careful not to bump into someone again now.
She afforded me a bow as she worked on documents.
She looks so swamped she can't even afford a chat... I think I get why I'm brought here.
"Sorry bout that, things are a wee bit hectic right now, as you can see."
"Apparently, demons have been breeding magic beasts they then let loose toward villages and towns. We haven't had a time to rest every day."
"It's been like this ever since the destruction of Demon Citadel here. I almost wish it was never destroyed now that it's come to this."
"Nah, who can say things wouldn't stop at this state had the chief not been killed. The third continent didn't fall from intermittent skirmishes like this. It was due to a single raid of such a massive scale with magic beasts, demons and the chief in tow."
"And the situation here isn't quite critical thanks to the relatively weak magic beasts living on this continent. Although that means the populace is just as weak, making it quite a struggle still."
Hmm, those demons used magic devices to teleport magic beasts into the capital on the fifth continent whereas they bred magic beasts to launch raids here.
There was that rat nest near Reina's hometown too. No wonder these folks are super busy if they have to deal with that many magic beasts with each raid.
"Sheesh, they sure are working me to the bone just cuz I'm a [Commander]. I'm really gonna die working too hard if this keeps going."
"Every branch is seeing a similar scene. But, it's okay now. With him around, we can deploy reinforcement anywhere instantly. We can rapidly deal with any raid, we don't hafta work as hard now!"
She's planning to use me as a transport with Fast Travel huh.
...Well, I don't really mind. I have leveling and sparring to take care though so I can't do it every day.
"You mean 'Fast Travel' usable to Heroes? The story goes it's a cheat ability that lets one teleport anywhere they've been to. You can use that?"
"I can, yes. Each usage consumes 100MP so it's not that free, however."
"You just gotta keep chugging down Mana Potions and it's all good. It's way cheaper than Teleport Scroll, you'll be a big help...!?"
Lolimast opened her eyes wide in surprise while she was talking.
I can sense mana from Spirits swirling around her, what's up?
"...Say, that again."
<We're telling you, a herd of magic beasts are coming for 'Capital'!>
<The scale of that herd is way beyond anything before! There's prob like, tens of thousands of 'em!>
"Tens of thousands!? I-it's over... The capital is done for..."
Lolimast fell on her knees in am orz pose and groaned.
...Well, guess hearing that when she's about to collapse from overworking will do that to her.
"...Oy, what's wrong? Coulda sworn I caught some ominous words there."
"According to my spirits, a herd of tens of thousands magic beasts are making their way to the capital."
"W-what!?"
"That's not good, the capital is presently lacking forces to deal with magic beast disturbances all over the continent. This is truly bad."
"Could it be, they were aiming for that all this time...!?"
"Looks like it. The herd will be arriving at the capital in about an hour... What can we even do about this."
"...I will go fetch reinforcements. We might just manage with the help from hero's party and Alma's parents."
"O, oh! That's right, you can bring them here with Fast Travel!"
The despairing Lolimast lifted her face up. Her reactions are all so over the top.
Good grief, but man tens of thousands huh. I could have dealt with it alone if it was only as many as Dajiel's Stampede, but this scale is way too much for me alone.
Ah, crap, Alma's parents should be on the first continent right now, don't seem like I can bring them. What do.
I've got no choice, I'm gonna ask for everyone that's available like hero-kun and Hyula-san.
I mean the sheer number alone should serve as a good practice for them, it should work out in the end, right... What is this, a musou game?
