Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku 17-13

17-13. Changing World (2)

"""CHEERS TO GODS~"""

Several jolly men knocked their beer mugs filled to the brim together in a tavern.
Such scenes can often be seen in taverns close to the capital's [Tower] lately.

"Pheew, these beers' good as ever!"
"Drinking beers while snacking on edamame's the best thing ever!"

Beers imported from Garleon Union on the continent west are many times pricier than ales, but there's a lot of explorers who have gotten addicted to its refreshing yet sharp flavor which ales lack.
As such, none would blame explorers who have made a quick killing for their loose wallets on those beers.

Additionally, despite the fact that Echigoya Firm having a huge influence in mass production and importation of beers was not publicly disclosed, the majority of populace knew about it.
Since it's a common knowledge for the capital's populace that when something unusual happens, it usually has got to do with either Echigoya Firm, Hero Nanashi, or Earl Pendragon Household.

Though, only a few know that all of them are actually the same person.

Moreover, the boy John Smith who's become a millionaire from his successful mass production of beers is apparently on a journey to Seryu Earldom located at the northern part of Shiga Kingdom. The head clerk of John Smith Brewery hypothesized that he must be looking for a new business opportunity at Seryuu City's labyrinth.

"Here's your seconds."
"Ooh, been waiting for this!"
"Alright then, time to--"

The men hold out their beer mugs.

"""CHEERS TO GODS~"""
"Oy oy, how many times yer' gonna toast anyway."
"Eh what's bad about it, those monsters get weaker when we offer our thanks to gods like this anyway."
"Which makes it easier for us to earn our keep heh."

The men looked at each other before bursting out laughing.

"You insolent fools!"
"Now now, priest-sama. How 'bout another cup?"
"Hmph--I'll take it."

Looks like the priest wasn't seriously trying to admonish them either.

Donations to temples have increased due to the matter with the towers, priests have also gotten popular amongst explorers trying to conquer those towers.
This situation is literally a godsend to priests who want to raise their level safely, hence his mood is good enough that he'd calm down with one scolding even after watching a slight imprudence.

"E-explorers, sirs. Lemme join your group."
"Who the heck are you?"
"I-I'm Tahere. I worked as an explorer in labyrinth city back in the days."

A boy wearing ragged clothing called Tahere entreated while groveling on the floor.
One of nearby guests murmured, "It's Tahere the garbage picker". Garbage picker is a derogatory term to refer to people who pick up usable-looking items from accumulated garbage near the capital's water filtration plant.

"Where's your equipment?"
"I-I got my weapon here!"

The boy took a sword wrapped in a rag.
Looks like he picked it up in the garbage site, the rusty sword only has half its blade intact.

"You won't cut those purple gobu with that thing."
"T-then I'll carry your stuff and do chores, I'll do anything!"
"Fine. Let's see how you fare once. Show us how you fight."

The man nodded satisfyingly to see the boy immediately came up with a different proposition.
Many would have sulked and made excuses instead at that point.

"Thanks so much, Aniki! I'll definitely prove my usefulness!"

Scenes where forward-thinking people trying to break out of spiral of poor life toward the path of explorers are often seen near the towers as well.

"Uwoo, so wide."
"Whoaa, heard about myself, but it's really so big ya can see the horizon."

As explorers who never took on the tower before, these two look like country bumpkins on their first outing in a big city when they see the near capital-wide first floor of the tower.

"Oy, we're going."
"A line woulda formed if we aren't quick."

'Why'd ya think we left the capital before sunrise', complained the leader.

"I'm sorry, Aniki."
"Uwaa, that's some line."

Lines consisting of about 30 people each have formed in front of 16 of the 20 pillars.

"Aniki, aniki. There's no lines on some of those pillars, can't we just go there?"
"That's exclusive for going down. There's invisible walls on them, you can't go in."

The leader answered the boy without even looking at those pillars as it seems to be a common question from first timers.

"It's our turn soon. Put your arm in the knotted ring you see on this rope and grab it."
"What is this?"
"Just do what you're told."

The rookies did as they were told even while looking puzzled.

"The tower will understand that we're all in the same party when we do this."
"The tower understands?"
"That's right. Did you know that you could come out on a different floor even when you took the same stairways?"

The rookies nodded at the leader.
This mechanism wasn't present in the beginning, but as more and more explorers came to these towers, this spec was added before anyone realized.

"If ya don't do this, these towers would use their own discretion to group eight random people in a party and send 'em to different floors."

Apparently, there was a confusion about this as cases where lone persons getting separated increased back when it was first introduced.

"Oy, rookie, don't hang the last string. Make sure to coil it around your arm and grab the end tip."
"But why."

The rookie at the end of the line asked what his senior meant by that.

"To prevent bad guys with concealment skills tagging along with us."

There are cases where bad guys would stealthily take the end of these ropes, aiming for rich noble kids' expensive equipment, good-looking rookie explorers or weak-looking parties in a hunt for beginners. It's a trick that misuses the mechanism that sends a whole party together to a new floor.

Though it's not like one party has a monopoly on a floor so it's common for parties to encounter with each other inside these towers.

"White Nose."

The leader gave a signal to a white furred dogkin.

The called dogkin sniffed with his nose, and inferred numbers of monsters and their directions from smell that had remained in these passages.
The dogkin seemed to dislike talking with his hard-to-understand voice and communicated his findings with hand signals.

"There's one purple gobu at the end of that passage to the right. Nothing on the left."

After explaining the signal to the two rookies, the leader led the way to the right passage.

"It's a gobu."
"It's really there."
"You two rookies, this'll be your first sortie, don't worry we'll come save you if it looks dangerous."
"Yup."
"Got it."

Rookie boy and rookie middle-aged man face off against a club-carrying purple goblin--Demigoblin Vanguard.
Neither of them is wearing armor, but they've got thick clothing and the leader has lent them single edged Goblin Sabers and small Goblin Bucklers. Both are drop items from the towers.

--GWOOOOBZN.

The goblin rushed in attacking while shouting out loud.

"Uoooooooo!"
"Deryaaaaa!"

Induced by that shout, the two rookies also raised theirs while slashing at the goblin.
The club that the goblin swung hit the middle aged rookie, but their sabers also managed to slash the goblin's shoulder and arm, dealing shallow wounds on its purple skin.

After several trades of blows, the bloodied goblin finally ran out of health.
With a scream that sounded like both 'gya' and 'gyu', the goblin disappeared into a dark purple mist.

Thanks to the protection of gods, the Demigoblin Vanguards who once proved challenging to even trained soldiers can now be defeated by a boy who retired from explorer's life and a middle-aged man whose only redeeming quality is his strength without a decent training.

"Well done, you two."

The two laughed to hear the praise.

"That was shoddy, but since you managed to keep your eyes open and went at it without running away, I'm giving you two passing grades."
"Right. Their swordsmanship's so-so as well, guess it's fine?"

The two are laying on the ground full of sweat just from defeating a single Demigoblin Vanguard, the weakest monster here.

"No broken bone. It's only some bruises. Next time, dodge your opponent's attacks for real."
"Yeah, I got it."

The rookie middle-aged man nodded while getting a first-aid treatment.
The explorer who treated him was going to complain since he didn't hear even a single word of thank, but when he remembered that the guy was a newbie who had just gone through his first battle, he let it slide with a snort.

"Go pick up your first loot."
"Yup, aniki!"

The rookie boy went to look for a fragment of magic core on the ground.

"Hard to find no? Be sure to pick those up only after you've killed the enemy, never during a scuffle."
"Yup, I got it."

The boy who was groveling on the floor picked up a magic core fragment and handed it over to aniki.

"Alright, let's move on."
"Eeh? We're going already?"
"Yer' free to stay here if you wanna get more rest."

The leader walked toward the direction the dogkin pointed while saying that to the complaining middle aged rookie.

"I-I'm okay now."

Not willing to get left behind, the middle-aged rookie whipped his trembling knees and got up to chase the group.

"Huh? Did you get yourself cooking magic utensils?"
"Huhuhu, nice eh."

A young man who came to a tavern for delivery stared in wonder at a brand-new magic tool.

"Man, must be profiting nicely from those explorers eh."
"Well yeah. Those guys only ever brought cheap liquor, but they always had a feast every night after returning from the tower, so I'm making bigger bucks than when I ran a tavern downtown."
"But ain't these cooking magic tools super expensive?"
"Naw, that's old news. Thanks to a sharp decline in magic cores' price, magic tools also got cheaper."
"Aah, from those towers huh."
"Yep yep. Those 『Towers』 are really handy."

Up until now, magic cores were mainly produced in labyrinths, thus they maintained high prices in the market, but thanks to excess supply of magic cores and magic core fragments obtained in the towers lately, the prices of lower grade magic cores have been slashed to up half the normal prices.

"Maybe I should try my luck as an explorer. Even children can hunt those first floor goblins anyway."
"Eh forget about it. You'd understand if you run a tavern. Several explorer parties come by here every night, but only about half of those members are permanent. The rest are ever changing, lots never come back here even."

The barkeeper warned the young man when he heard his muttering.
Being an explorer means gambling on your life, he said.

"Maybe they went to another party or another tavern?"
"Some of them are that kind I guess."

The barkeeper implicitly told the wistful sounding young man that the majority of those lost explorers had died in the tower.

"I'll give it another thought."
"That'd be wise."

Thus the young man left, but the one in charge of delivery a few days later turned out to be a different person.
The barkeeper didn't mention anything about it as he could only hope for the young man's safety while wiping tables.

Such intense rates of personnel swaps is another common facet of daily lives after towers.

"Huh? You're closing up already?"

A housewife who was walking down the capital's street stall marketplace looked troubled when she saw a store she was going to had already closed up.

"Yea, today's stock all sold out."
"My that's so fast."
"Eh no not really. Business's booming lately, we're usually sold out by this time of the day."

Just as the stallkeeper said, many stalls nearby are about to sell out as well.

"Gontz stall three aisles over yonder should be open still."
"That store is pricey... I'll just go to Robson-san's store then."
"Hmm? Robson shuttered his store already, ya know."
"Did something happen?"
"Guy went and became an explorer, off to the tower along with some laborer men he knew."
"Ara ara, my my, Robson-san is so young."

People dreaming of making a killing in the tower is a common tale in the capital lately, hence the housewife didn't think much when an acquaintance changed job.

"I suppose I've no choice but to go to Gontz store then."
"Don't think it's gonna differ much, stuff are just getting pricier lately. Even Gontz gonna sell out soon if ya don't hurry."
"No choice then."

The housewife headed to another store while grumbling.

"When it's this expensive, our lives don't get any better even with my husband's higher wage."

As the housewife complained, the wave of inflation is gradually drawing closer to the capital.

"Dozon-sama!"
"Ou! That you Pendora youngsters!"

Boys wearing blue mantles called out to some men who were taking a break in an open space near the labyrinth city's tower.
Dozon the Red Iron explorer is well known among young explorers for being an affable persona and is good at taking care of other.

"You guys not with Usasa and the guys today?"

Dozon asked when he noticed that the members they were usually with weren't present.

"They're exploring the labyrinth with Nee-san today."
"Nee-san? Are they culling out labyrinth monsters with Iruna or Jena?"

Dozon mentioned teachers of Explorer School founded by Earl Pendragon.

"No no. They're with Pochi neesan. Since she was saying, 『Let's hunt a whole lotsa meat nodesu』, I think they went to hunt for dungeon frogs or dungeon deers. She took a lot of carrier kids along with Usasa and the guys with her after all."
"Ain't Pochi that armor twerp--"

Dozon imagined a dogkin girl with short limbs strolling about in his mind.

Dozon unintentionally broke out a smile at the cute reminiscence, but then he recalled about a feat that dogkin and her master have accomplished.

"--One of Demon Lord Slayers huh?"
"Un, yep. Usasa and the others consulted teachers about how there were some kids who couldn't eat due to a sudden increase on food price in labyrinth city, maybe Earl-sama heard about that and dispatched nee-san here."
"Yeah, young master Pendragon would go out of his way and do that fer' sure."

Dozon who remembered when Earl Pendragon did charity works in labyrinth city even when he was still a honorary noble, nodded in agreement.

"You guys not going with them?"
"Un, we're working hard to catch up to Usasa and the guys now."
"Cuz we've got no right to wear these mantles if we're always getting rescued."
"Is that so. Working hard is a good thing, but you gotta be careful not to hurt yerself now."
"Un, I know!"
"That was drilled hard to us Pendora at explorer school."

The boys nodded at Dozon's advice.

"Food shortage huh..."

Dozon muttered while looking at the departing boys.

The majority of explorers who set up bases at Labyrinth City have shifted to exploring the tower because of how profitable it is.
As a result, there's fewer people exploring the labyrinth, and labyrinth city is starting to run low of cheap meat that has been supporting it.

"Isn't it only natural? I mean there are monsters who drop food in the tower too, but their bodies disappear when they're killed unlike in the labyrinth."
"Well yeah..."

Dozon's comrades watch over him mulling.

"Alright, we're delving in the labyrinth for a while from tomorrow on."
"Gotcha."
"Well, knew Dozon would say that."
"Geez, our boss is hopeless."

At Dozon's declaration, his comrades consented even while complaining.

"Forgive me, this is just how I am."
"No worries, boss."
"We've earned big on towers already, going to the labyrinth for a while would be a nice change of pace."
"Yeah. Would be nice if the labyrinth had something like Tower Escape orbs though."
"You don't say~"

The men who had enough of rest laughed as they headed to the tavern.
It seems Dozon's comrades are fond of his personality of putting the vulnerable over own profit.

"What! You dared charged one big copper coin for this crap size?!"
"I got no choice, market price went up you know."
"Like this stingy meat will give me power."
"You're free to go to other stores if you don't like it."
"What'd you say! Who do you think you're talking to huh!"

The enraged man knocked the storekeeper out.
Other guests screamed, the store's bodyguards ran up to subdue the man.

The bodyguards leaped at him vigorously, but the man easily knocked them down with a swing of his arm.

"We're with the 13th Royal Capital Guards! Who's the idiot causing this commotion! Turn yourself in!"

Guards rushed into the tavern when they heard screams inside.
They saw a man knocking down bodyguards lying on the ground and the passed out unmoving storekeeper, and immediately understood the situation.

"Guards you say? Just right, I still need to rampage more! I'll show you guys the color of your blood!"
"Like we guards gonna lose to fools who brandished the power they obtained in towers on common people!"

The man is higher in term of level, but an explorer who had only dipped their foot on martial art was no match against soldiers and their excellent teamwork and high morales under the guard captain's commands.
The man immediately fell down by soldiers' hook spears, trampled down by multiple soldiers and got tied up.

"Good grief, these fools drunk by their powers."

As more commoners delved in the towers, more people also obtained enough power to rival the knights, as such, fools such as this man who tried to solve everything with brute forces proliferated everywhere causing troubles.

"Lemme go! You damn guards! I ain't gonna lose to you noble lapdogs!"

The rampaging man put his still free right hand to his mouth.

"Right hand! Tie up his right hand!"

The guard captain who noticed that quickly issued an order, but by that time, the man had already bit the pill in his mouth.

"UORYAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

As the man shouted, magic circles patterned like red ropes showed up on the man's skin.
It's the same defensive barrier the monsters that spawned during the Capital Red Rope uproar had.

"Fiend Drug huh! Abandon arrest. You're permitted to kill."
"""OU!"""

Fiend Drug found in the towers as drop items have been spreading in the capital's underground community, and some of those who consumed these drugs have gained ability to produce red rope barrier and enhanced strength.
The guards have been tightening up on the drug's circulation, but due to its usefulness in tower explorations, many explorers are taking it even while being fully aware of its ban.

"I am invincibleeeeeeeeeeeeee"

The man tore off the rope binding him, thrust aside the guards and rushed out toward the exit at full speed.

"--Kya"

There was a well dressed black haired girl right in front of the rushing man.
The man's mouth warped sadistically when he saw the girl, and opened his arms wide in an attempt to grab the girl.

"This is bad. --make it please!"

Seeing that, the guard captain threw his hooked spear while activating Super Strength skill.

"Ei"

With a cute voice, the man rotated in spot before hitting the ground hard.

The guard captain was flabbergasted to see an unbelievable scene unfolding before him, but then he realized that the spear he threw was going straight to the girl's face and shouted.

"Get awayyyyyyyyy!"

The girl smiled and laughed, then she swung her held-out hand and got the hooked spear tightly in her hand as if she had used magic.

The man was still trying to rampage around, but the girl held him down firmly not allowing him even a slight movement.

"...■ Mana Drain."

As the girl cast the spell, the red rope magic circle covering the man's body vanished.
The girl then knocked the still rampaging man out and handed him over to the guards.

"...That's, Lulu."

Someone murmured that.

"You mean Lulu the Maid Lord?"
"You idiot! Put 『Sama』 after her name!"
"Yeah yeah! Lulu-sama is an aspiration to us cooks."
"That's not exclusive to cooks! As maids, she's also an object of our yearnings!"

The girl who watched people getting all worked up over her--Lulu turned her face away shyly after checking that she hadn't forgotten to put on Recognition Inhibition veil.

"Ta-Tama-chan, save me."
"Don't worry be happy~"

When Lulu murmured softly toward her own shadow, Tama's hand jumped out of it like a plomp, caught Lulu's feet and dragged her into the shadow.
Leaving the surprised people behind, Lulu who was helping with ruffian suppressions went back home together with Tama.

"Tie up this guy and take him away. Don't forget the mouth gag to prevent him from using Fiend Drug!"

The guard captain ordered his subordinates once Lulu was gone.

"Captain. One of the bodyguards and the manager have passed away. Another has a serious injury."
"I see. Carry the one with serious injury to temples or medical charities."
"Sir!"

Two guards put the injured person on a stretcher and carried him away along with some drunkards.

"And this was before he took Fiend Drug..."
"We're really fortunate that Watari-sama was present."

The guard who knew Lulu's family name is a huge fan of [Demon Lord Slayers], he's read many books depicting their tales.

"...Tell me about it."

Many people in the streets would have fallen victims if they had let the man get away there.

"Gotta ask Regional Commander to send a letter of gratitudes to Lulu-dono."

After murmuring that, the guard captain led his subordinates back to patrolling the city.

"Soaring food price?"
"Yes, urban areas have started to run out of vegetables while rural areas are suffering meat shortages."

The former was because a shortage of vegetable farmers and distributors, while the latter is because of a shortage of hunters who provide meat for villages. In both cases, the majority is because they all became tower explorers.

Urban areas are not having a meat shortage thanks to ranches unloading their livestocks, but it's not like the price of meat has not increased.
Thanks to explorers who've made a quick kill feasting on meat products en masse, they've seen a sudden jump in price in urban areas including the capital. At the rate it's currently going, forget several years, there's a high chance that even livestocks won't be enough by next year.

"In particular, many have given up or abandoned farmwork in rural areas."

There have been cases of second and third sons of farming families leaving villages because they don't want the hard work of reclaiming new lands since forever, but the rate of it has seen a dramatic increase lately.
Using [To protect the village] as a pretext while only doing the minimum in reality, they would go crazy trying to conquer the towers in a quest for a small sum of money. Apparently this has been happening a lot.

Even though it's very rare to have bad crops thanks to the protection of City Cores, farmwork is not as simple as [Sow seeds then wait for them to grow by themselves].

"Your excellency, my subordinate has requested an audience."

One of the king's page called to the prime minister.
The prime minister went to another room to listen the report when he heard that it was an urgent matter before going back to convey it to the king.

"Your majesty, a civil war has erupted at Makiwa Kingdom."

When its family head passed away, a family quarrel broke out in Jizaros Earldom, one of the four great nobles who posses Orb Wands and hold great powers in Makiwa Kingdom, and then those who had taken over Jizaros Earldom declared their independence, raising a revolt against Makiwa Kingdom.

"Furthermore, some skirmishes originating from food shortages have developed into full blown wars in some locations at central countries."

The king sighed deeply when he heard the prime minister's report.

"Good grief, just when the world was about to enter a peaceful era thanks to ancestor king-sama efforts, Demon God went and did these unnecessary stuff!"
"Our kingdom has enjoyed a sharp increase in magic core supply thanks to the towers, so it's not all negatives."

Having lower priced fuel for Magic Furnaces which are needed in mines and airships also means lower costs of distributions and mining work.
Furthermore, it also helps to get higher grades magic cores--which were used for fuels and thus unavailable in the market before--become accessible to alchemists and magic tool makers.

There may be some rapid movements in allocations of work forces, but the prime minister speculates that it will all eventually settle down once the fervor on [Towers] ends.

"Your majesty, do you have time?"
"Good day, ancestor king-sama."
"Just call me Mito, I'm telling you."

Mito--ancestor king Yamato waved her hands in panic while asking for the king and prime minister to raise their heads.

"We're on the verge of food crisis, right? Since we've got a huge stock of emergency rations and all, do you think it's okay to distribute them to each countries in Shiga Kingdom's name? Do tell if you want to have political moves attached."
"Oooh, then--"

The king halted the prime minister who was going to come up with one.

"We shall not dirty ancestor king-sama's magnanimity with political moves in our conveniences."

Now that Saga Empire and western countries have lost a lot of power, and with Weasel Empire gone, Shiga Kingdom has become the biggest country on the continent.
The king wanted to say that they have no need for more powers.

"I got it. Then we'll go and distribute them. Oh and this here is a sample. It doesn't really look like food though since it's a mix of hardened fish and vegetable powder, freeze dried alga pills."

Even though she said it didn't look like food, the sample Mito gave was no different from common preserved foods in Shiga Kingdom.
Some of the rations used kraken powder instead of fish, but Mito didn't talk about it since it would only complicate things.

"They've got enough nutritions and calories, and they're tastier than they look, no one would starve to die with this."
"Very well then, I shall write letters addressed to every kings."

The king orally narrated the content to his secretary and ordered his subordinates to mass write the letters.

"Thank you. I believe those kings will surely accept our aid now."

Mito smiled when she heard the letter's content.
The gist of these letters being, 『In accordance to Shiga Kingdom's doctrine, we hereby provide foods to the people of your country. In exchange for our aid, we request that you do not let any of your people die from hunger.』

"Ichirou-nii, Sete's given his approval for the food aid. These are letters addressed to kings at each countries."
"『In exchange, don't let anyone die』, huh, that's really nice."
"Un, as expected of Sharlick-kun's descendant."

Mito smiled broadly to hear Satou's praise.

"Okay then, time to get going."
"Mind if I come along too?"
"Of course not. Then I'll take Kuro form, and you Hikaru as Nanashi."
"Yes."

That day, Hero Nanashi and his attendant showed up in every corners of the world and delivered an enormous amount of preserved foods before leaving.
Representatives of countries who received those emergency rations distributed the rations to starving people as promptly as possible.

Of course, there were some people who made an attempt to use those for their own gain, but mysteriously enough, their misappropriations were made public within days, taking them down.
None managed to find out whether someone did secret maneuvers behind the scene.

Only that there were some whispers about sightings of a pink colored shadow at those countries. Nin nin.

Shikkaku Mon no Saikyou Kenja Chapter 273

Chapter 273 Strongest Sage, Foresees Attacks

"Gotchaaaaaa!"

Just as I passed right below the spear, the man cast another magic on his spear.

But, it's too late.
The move magic he used in the beginning was something he had prepared beforehand. As such, its cast time was quick.

Compared to that, this magic was cast impromptu as a reaction against me dodging the spear.
Hence, I've got enough time to cast a counter magic.

"Mwu!?"

The man sounded confused when he saw his own spear.
As the spear's trajectory didn't curve out.

The reason is simple.
I've put a defensive magic on the 『Enemy's Spear』 to block magical interferences on it.

And the opening created from my dodge is enough to end this fight.
I swing my sword within the range.

An unavoidable strike aiming for the enemy's center of gravity.

"--Kuh!"

The man pulled back his spear in an attempt to defend his body.
This is exactly the timing I was waiting for.

I cast move magic on my sword which was going for the enemy's waist and changed its aim.
--My target is the enemy's arm.
His arm was wide open precisely because he was trying to defend his waist instead of dodging.

"Gaaaaah!"

The enemy's arm flew in the air as a pained scream reverberated.
My sword has cut off his arm.

The enemy moved away from me even while screaming in agony.
That he would still trying to calmly salvage the situation even after he got one arm cut off is a testament of an ancient magic combatant.... The fact that he's lost one arm still remains though.

But the match is as good as over now.
I came out on top even when the enemy still had both arms.
Now that he's lost one arm needed to swing his spear, there's no way he can fight properly.

Or so I thought, but...
<TLN: If you're reading this novel at any other site than Sousetsuka .com you might be reading an unedited, uncorrected version of the novel.>
"It grew back!?"

Alma was shocked when she saw the enemy.
For some reason, the man's arm that had been cut off has regrown.

...I've never seen this phenomena even with recovery magic.
Regrowing arms are not an impossible feat like [Dead Revival], but there are better ways to do it.

"...It's a by-product of dead revival, ya see! Cool huh!"

The man shouted so while checking out his new arm.
It seems like Dead Revival has an additional limb restoration effect included.

Since I didn't sense anything like this on Grevil, this must be an original magic or something created by the guy who revived these [Warmongers].
I could sense a hint of fluctuation on the unnatural spell formula imprinted on the enemy when he regrew his arm.

I fix my sword stance in front of the man.

"The end result won't change even if you have both arms."

"Yer' certainly better than me alright! ...But winning or losing is all about luck. Who knows, it might even be me who came out victorious!"

"...Unfortunately, that's not going to happen."

I closed in on the man as I said that.
The man thrust his spear while casting his magic in an attempt to kill me--however, an extremely simple magic I cast completely neutralized both his spear and magic.

Then a moment later, my sword has been thrust before his neck.

"How! How come you dodged my spear!"

"Your moves are too easy to read... You'd better put some effort into increasing your patterns if you ever get revived again."

The man's eyes were wide open.
He must have been shocked to see his spear that had taken so many lives got so easily nullified.

Of course I'd read his spear.
After all, he thrust his spear the same way he did in the beginning and even used the exact same move magic as an assist.

This man must have reached his current strength by polishing that same pattern in many battles.
It would have eventually been countered off if he kept fighting that way--but since this man killed all opponents he defeated, he never had to worry about that.
To the man, completely mastering one pattern made all other patterns redundant.

But that tactic is not applicable to opponents who have a wealth of experience under their belt.
They'd see through the fact that he only had one pattern by looking at the way he thrust his spear.

One's battle predisposition shows in the way they carry their weapon, the way they approach their opponent and also their line of sight as well as mana flows.
Once one failed their first attack against such an opponent--the only thing waiting for them is defeat.

Okami wa Nemuranai 7.10_11_12

When Lecan came out the stairway onto floor 19, he saw two adventurers on standby outside.

They're staring intensely at floor 19's stairway. One is drawing a bow while the other is holding a cane.

The mage is chanting a spell.

"...Gods we revere. Grant unto me the power to eradicate evils. We beseech you. Come forth..."

The archer noticed Lecan approaching and stole a quick glance before immediately returning his focus.

Eventually, a man appeared from behind a twisted pillar and ran into the stairway.

A huge boar was chasing after him, and right as it was about to rush into the stairway, it got blown back as if it hit a transparent wall.

Immediately after, the archer let loose of his arrow, while the mage unleashed his mana.

"<Flame Spear (Bandroux)〉!"

The cast Flame Spear was not big, but it had a good control and accurately hit the magic beast's head. An explosive sound that echoed along with a blazing flame quickly went away, but the magic beast was already staggering by this point.

This magic beast is a medium variant of third rank Boar Demon magic beast, Bent Nose (Bamboo).

The archer shot out another two arrows, and the man who lured the magic beast there charged at it with his sword.

After watching the fight to the end, Lecan went down the stairs, setting foot on floor 19. He could feel gazes from the three adventurers', but none called out to him. Neither did Lecan as he passed by them.

He planned to go straight to the stairway down, but suddenly a blue dot in a slightly remote spot began to move toward Lecan.

It must be one of giant variants that appear on every floor. Come to think it, this should be good time as any to create a <Mark>.

As he walked briskly, Lecan carefully kneaded the mana inside his body, then he raised his right arm and held it forward toward nothing but a pillar.

The magic beast was terrifyingly fast. It's arriving at that spot soon.

It comes into view. It's bigger than he imagined.

"<Flame Spear (Bandroux)>!"
<TLN: If you're reading this novel at any other site than Sousetsuka .com you might be reading an unedited, uncorrected version of the novel.>
A huge flaming spear with a firm contour was manifested, then it bolted straight at the magic beast, piercing it.

The magic beast that was charging toward him at a tremendous speed suddenly halted. It stood still for a while as if its time had stopped before falling down on the ground just like that.

Lecan took its magic gem and waited there for a while.

The magic beast isn't respawning.

Right as he was suspecting that he got a wrong info, a wriggling black mist suddenly welled up like it was boiling, and eventually formed a giant Bent Nose like earlier. Lecan beat it with a Flame Spear.

"<Stratum (Siijmel)>!"

Drawing of the dungeon's floors showed up in Lecan's mind. Only the ground floor was lit up among those.

11

Floor 20 magic beasts are fourth rank of Wolf Demon magic beasts, Wood wolves. These beasts also spawn on floor 2, but the only things they share are form and color; while size, attack power and speed of the wolves found here are on a whole different dimension.

And just like Red Apes, these Wood Wolves will also call for other individuals when they're cornered. These packs of Wood Wolves would rush toward their prey by jumping all over the places, dealing against this in places with many twisted pillars like here is quite a challenge.

That said, their maneuvers are plain as nose to Lecan who possesses <3D Perception>, and a skirmish never lasts long enough for them to call other wolves.

He fought four enemies on this floor. All of them were defeated by <Flame Spears>.

Lecan would prepare his magic when he detected an enemy as he walked on, then cast it right as the beast came into view.

However, the fourth individual managed to dodge his spell, thus he missed the spot he targeted.

The slight time lag that exists between chants and casts is problematic after all. He's got to cast his magic more promptly.

Also, he won't be able to cast magic at a moment's notice if he doesn't make an attempt to shorten the time needed to prepare one

But, just think of swords.

Just how long did it take for him until a sword was practical enough for battle. Considering that, it's going to take quite a while before <Flame Spear> become a truly practical skill.

He had a meal in the stairway leading to floor 21 and took a short nap. It has only been a day at most since he went in the dungeon, but he needs to prepare himself a bit from here on.

12

The dungeon's design changed by floor 21. It's structured like a mesh of cubic stone rooms. The four walls of these cubic rooms may or may not have holes on them. In other words, some rooms have only one doorway, some have two, some have three, and some even four.

The doorways are too big for humans. Even someone as tall as Lecan could easily pass through them.

However, magic beasts can't get past them. The reason for that is because every magic beast that spawns in the lower stratum are all gigantic.

Since these holes are located at random on the walls, you can rarely see the adjoining rooms.

These rooms are littered with magic beasts all over. It's difficult for a large number of people to go into a room all at once, yet the instant one person entered a room, it would result in a battle, hence it's impossible to really prepare yourselves before a battle begin.

Then just attack those magic beasts from outside the hole right, naturally anyone would come up with that, but magic beasts found in lower stratum all posses the means to attack rooms adjoining theirs.

Floor 21 magic beasts are third rank of Rock Mass magic beasts, Wrinkle Man (Zeovan).

They're giants made of rocks, and the cracks on the rocks look like wrinkles. They're four times as tall as Lecan, slashing weapons and magic are ineffective against them.

Apparently, they attack adjoining rooms by plucking off a part of their body and hurling it. That's what written on the handbook.

Lecan fought with a battle hammer the last time he was here, but he didn't engage in a lot of battle and rushed to the floor below back then.

Lecan was a bit perplexed when he set foot on floor 21 while planning to test out his magic.

There's a giant variant in one of the rooms beyond the one in front of him.

He thought about taking a detour, but if he ran from an opponent of this level here, he wouldn't have a chance getting to the last floor.

He slowly breathed in and kneaded his mana in front of the room where the enemy was.

And then he went in the hole.

Chapter 272 Strongest Sage, Fights Spear Warrior

I don't have time to fight leisurely at my pace from here on.
More members of [Warmongers] would gather here if I dawdled around.
<TLN: Changed the group name, this should be a bit more accurate while not sounding too mouthful, sorry about this. Literal translation: "Those who excel in Combat Arts".>

[Warmongers] is a group of people who would choose to fight 1-on-1... But there's no guarantee that applies to every one of them.
No matter how weakened they are, I'd still rather avoid fighting a bunch of people who know how to fight like a true magic combatant all at once.

I have my sword at the ready with that in mind.

"Alright, let's fight."

"...Yeah. Here to a good bout."

A little while later.
After winning over nine [Warmongers], I faced off against the last one, [Combatant Neiar].

"You took care of them all didn't you! Just splendid!"

The man who came last shouted out loud in ecstasy.
It's not that he's glad that his friends have died, he's purely delighted at the prospect of fighting a formidable foe.

This guy... Looks like he's the strongest one amongst [Warmongers].
The degree of his physical degradations seem to be the same as other members.
However, his skills are a cut above the rest.

His crest is Disqualified Crest.
Battle style is the same as me, combining weapons and magic usage.
However... My opponent here is using a spear instead of a sword.

"But I'm nothing like those guys! You ready!?"

"...Yea. Let's begin."

The man nodded when he heard me.

"--Hmph!"

He thrust his spear at a tremendous speed.
I dodged it by a hair's breadth.

And right as the enemy was about to enter my sword's range--he shot out a magic.
An explosion magic.

--This magic was not intended to beat me, surely.
He's going to employ it as a diversion to get in my range depending on how I deal with it
Foreseeing that--I use freezing magic on the enemy's explosion magic.

Freezing magic could be used to reduce explosive magic.
The enemy's magic was high powered hence I couldn't completely overcome it--but it was good enough.

I plunge myself into the reduced explosion magic.
I could feel my hair getting burned from the blast, but I care not.
And then--My sword grazed my opponent's cheek.

"...Busted huh."
<TLN: If you're reading this novel at any other site than Sousetsuka .com you might be reading an unedited, uncorrected version of the novel.>
"You... you're an even crazier monster than I thought! Dope!"

Outwardly, it looked like my sword only scratched the enemy's cheek--but originally, that should have been a blow that ended this fight.
--That slash had a highly concentrated [Magic Poison] augmented on it, hence even a scratch should have paralyzed him.

But the enemy had seen through that.
And he cast a specific detoxifying magic to counter [Magic Poison] right as he was hit by my slash.

『T-that was an incredible trade of blows... I wouldn't rush into an explosion if it were me...』

『I saw Mathi-kun augmented something on his sword just now... Am I imagining things?』

『Unn... I don't really get it!』

Looks like Alma and Ruli noticed the trading blows that had just unfolded.
Iris doesn't seem to notice... Well, Iris is a menace even when she's just by randomly swinging weapons anyway, no need for her to learn these tactics.
...Not like she could use these tactics with her current state of mana circuits anyway.

By the way, I've asked these girls to stand by and be ready to launch surprise attacks from behind anytime.
The opponent wished for a 1-on-1 battle, but I've got no reason to follow along.

However, it's a rare chance to fight against someone from the past era and all.
Might as well fight head-on.

"Oraaa!"

The man thrust his spear once again after a pause.
I was going to dodge that like earlier--.

"Hmph!"

The spear's trajectory bent right as I dodged it by a hair's breadth.

A physically impossible trajectory.
Of course, it's magic that made this possible.

He must have put move-type magic on the spear to forcefully change its direction.
He's also put an attack magic on top of it to compensate for the loss of power due to the unnatural trajectory.
I would have lost my head if I got hit by this blow.

I lowered my posture to the extreme just as the tip of the spear was right upon me.
And then, I slid below the spear and closed in on him.

No matter how powerful a magic is, there's nothing to it if it misses its target.

Floor 16 magic beasts are third rank of Wonder Wood magic beasts, Tiny Armwood (Palbaruan).

It looks like three twigs attached to two trunks and root. Rather, it's practically a tree without leaves.

Encountering them in a forest would have been quite terrifying. But there's no tree growing in this dungeon, as such no one would get fooled as long as they knew about their existence here beforehand.

They attack simply by swinging their arms around, but on top of being very powerful, it's also got reach and are curved on unexpected spots, so there's no point in hiding behind a pillar.

These magic beasts have multiple of their thick roots stuck in ground. So they must be immobile, or so Lecan thought.

And yet, that's actually not the case according to the handbook. Their roots move in ground followed by their main body above ground. The thinner part of their roots break off while the thicker ones get damaged every time they do though, hence they get slightly weaker whenever they move around. Yet, adventurers who let their guard down and dare to take a rest on this floor thinking that these tree monsters won't move shall meet an unsightly end here.

Lecan pointed his finger toward a Tiny Armwood in his sight.

But then something hit upon him and he spread open his fingers and thrust his open palm forward, before casting the spell.

"Flame Spear (Bandroux)!"

A spear of flame flew off his palm without any resistance, smashing the Tiny Armwood's trunk and even broke apart an old tree-like pillar behind it.

A penetrating power like never before.

Lecan adjusted his course a bit and went to look for another Tiny Armwood.

"<Flame Spear>!"

Tiny Armwood disappeared, leaving a treasure chest behind.

It's his first treasure chest today. Inside is a Medium Blue Potion.

Come to think of it, he's spent quite a bit of mana already.

Lecan put that Medium Blue Potion in his mouth, bit open its container and drank the content. He drank the container along since it immediately melted away. Apparently, it melted from his saliva.

Not enough.

His lost mana has not been refilled yet.

He took another Medium Blue Potion and drank it. But, it's still not enough.

He took a Large Blue Potion and drank it. It sufficed this time.

From what he gathered just now and last time, it seems like small and medium kinds of both red and blue potions have weak effects on Lecan.

--I'll sell small and medium ones from now on. Anyway, the Flame Spear just now felt great. It's like my mana went out smoothly just like that.

He approached the next Tiny Armwood and shot out a flame spear from his palm. Both its power and piercing strength have gone up.

--When I fire through my fingers, the direction is restricted by the way my fingers form. Yet I can freely set the shooting direction when I fire through my palm. Let's test this out a bit more.

For the next Tiny Armwood, he went for the trunk of but right before the Flame Spear hit, he changed its course toward the branch instead.

The spell was cast without any problem, and it accurately destroyed the branch without getting weakened or diffused.

--Alright. This will do.

Floor 17 magic beasts are sixth rank of Ape Demon magic beasts, Red Apes (Urd). The greater variant that is.

The Red Apes that spawn on Floor 1 are of lesser variant. They are small, attack using bare hands, and even though they are slightly nimble, they're no match for Lecan. However, dealing with a swarm of this magic beasts inside a forest while escorting multiple people is considered to be a tough undertaking.

The Red Apes that spawn on floor 4, along with Spider Monkeys, carry canes and can shoot magic.

The Red Apes that spawn on floor 10 are twice as big and carry swords and clubs on them. Lecan had a huge shock when he first saw them since he had never seen a magic beast carrying weapons around before.

And then, the Red Apes on floor 17 are so big you would think they're of a whole different species, they're also ferocious, and have armor on top of weapons equipped. Furthermore, according to the handbook they never fight alone and will call other Red Apes if they find themselves in disadvantage.

Lecan was tired of Red Apes, thus he quickly ran toward the stairway. He only cut down one Red Ape.

Floor 18 magic beasts are fourth rank of Flying Fish magic beasts, Hatchet Fish (Toick).

Flat fish floating in the air while turning slowly is quite a bizarre sight to behold. When an enemy is within their range, they would turn straight at it and shake their body. Then they will suddenly launch themselves toward the enemy while rotating their body vertically, mincing their enemy down with their tail fin from above. This fin possess the thickness and destructive power like that of a hatchet.

Hatchet Fish's body is very thin, so it's hard to see them in the surroundings when seen straight from the front. As such, the common tactic is to have a shield user leading the front line while others attack from the flanks or so is written in the handbook

If their enemy won't go into their range, these Hatchet Fish will attempt to move on their own, but they move in a short distance at a time and turn their body ever so slowly.

Or in other words, these are targets where you can take your time attacking from a distance.

Lecan shot out a Flame Spear toward a Hatchet Fish. His magic only grazed it, but it was enough to kill the Hatchet Fish.

However, Lecan remonstrated himself.
<TLN: If you're reading this novel at any other site than Sousetsuka .com you might be reading an unedited, uncorrected version of the novel.>
--Not like this. I can't keep using magic so coarsely like this!

Lecan moved to a spot with a clear view of his next target, then he slowly knead his mana.

--First, I'll make my mana flow from every corners of my body toward the abdomen. Gradually sending it to the point below my navel to create a mass of power, then I'll send that mass into my right arm. Afterward, I'll push the mana out of my body like it just passes through it, and chant the spell clearly with the correct punctuation.

"<Flame Spear>!"

An attack possessing superb accuracy and density went straight to the target, destroying it into smithereens.

--This is it. I've got to get a grip on this sensation and polish it up. Then eventually, I'll be able to launch this attack quickly. Shira did teach me that it's important to uphold the right procedures as you invoke your mana.

Lecan now understands Shira's reasoning for making him spend times with <Ignition> at the very beginning.

A spell cast by a tiny amount of mana is exactly where the secret to utilize magic the right way lies.

A treasure chest dropped, the inside was a Medium Blue Potion, hence he drank it.

He was overcome by a chill all of a sudden. Nauseating feeling welled up from deep within his body, it made him sick in the stomach.

--What the heck is this. Come to think it, Shira said that these are stuff that violate the law of nature. I see. In exchange for immediate effects, potions can't be consumed in rapid successions huh.

Chapter 271 Strongest Sage, Invited the Group

"...Had fun fighting weaklings?"

[Combatant Mira] murmured after making sure the comm was connected.
And then, he got a reply.

"Naww nope. Fought three already, mediocre the lot of 'em."

"It's so boring, and after we got resurrected and all."

"Found someone decent, but he went and died right away... Heard there's some strong guys at Second Royal Academy, I'm about to head there."

Looks like there have been other victims.
...One of them is even going after Second Academy.

Glad that we took on this case quick.
If we were late even by a few days, there could have been victims at Second Academy.

[Combatant Mira] speaks to the comm magic as I'm thinking that.

"Second Academy is a good idea... But there's an even more interesting opponent."

"Interesting opponent?"

"Yeah. A swordsman who far surpasses my skills in 『Loita Swordstyle』 and 『Ias Swordstyle』. He looks like a mere child... But he's strong."

"Hou?"

It seems like that caught their interest.
But then, voices could be heard from the comm magic after a slight pause.

"Why wouldn't ya fight such an interesting opponent yerself?"

"Of course, I did."

"Then, he ain't in this world anymore, is he? Or did he get revived too?"

Looks like his [Warmongers] friends had no doubt about his victory.
[Combatant Mira] answered back.

"He didn't die... Because I lost."

"Hou?"

"I'm taking my life after this... Come to where I am if you want to fight someone that brought me down."

--After hearing that, the comm magic immediately got quiet.
Before becoming lively a moment later.

"Hell yeah! Finally a decent foe!"

"Keep still you, I'll be right there!"

"Ah, no fair! Let me fight that guy!"

"First come, first served~~!"

We could hear those voices from comm magic.
An also the sound of acceleration magic for moving.

None of them was bothered by the fact that their friend had been beaten.
All of them were glad to find a strong enemy, and in a rush to get where I am.

[Combatant Mira] have transmitted his location through the comm magic, so they must be going straight at me right now.

In the meantime--[Combatant Mira] fell down.
<TLN: If you're reading this novel at any other site than Sousetsuka .com you might be reading an unedited, uncorrected version of the novel.>
"He just fell...?"

Alma sounded perplexed to see him suddenly falling.
Looks like he intentionally made his inner mana go out of control, burning off his cerebral nerves.

"Looks like he took his own life."

"H-he's really dead..."

"...Well, he was already dead in the first place."

I gazed at a distant sky as I said that.
A small shadow is soaring there--coming closer at a tremendous speed.

"Looks like they're here."

"Already!?"

"Well they were probably in the vicinity... Also, acceleration magic."

I waved at the soaring shadow while using [Enforced Detection].

"Over here!"

Then the soaring shadow flew straight here.
Its figure became clearer as it got closer.

It was a slim magician who came flying in.
He landed a few meters away from me and threw a question.

"...Am I the first to arrive?"

"Yeah."

"Then let us fight before more nuisance comes... [Combatant Geese], engaging."

Geese put his arms forward.
Looks like he's a pure magician type who doesn't use a sword.

『Eh, what? They're going straight to fight after that exchange?』

『It couldn't even be called a conversation...』

I confront the magician while Ruli and Alma were confused.

Floor 14 magic beasts are third rank Demon Bear magic beasts, Brown Furball (Goedig).

They look like giant brown furballs lying on the floor, but when you get close to one, it will reveal its true form. With arms raised high up, their height rivals that of Lecan.

Moreover, these magic beasts have an eerily huge face. So does their mouth. To rookie adventurers, the sight of these beasts leaping at you with their huge mouth wide open full of drools is the embodiment of fear itself.

However, these magic beasts would lie dormant until you get to a certain distance from it.

In other words, adventurers capable of ranged attacks will always get the first strike.

In addition, although the speed of their attack when they first come out of their camouflage may be fast, consequent attacks are sluggish, so long as you watch out for their bites, these magic beasts are not really a menace.

Lecan stops 20 step away from one, points his right forefinger forward, and kneads his mana.

"<Flame Spear (Bandroux)>!"

A flame spear flew off, gouged a third of the Brown Furball and landed on the ground behind it, scooping weed and soil there.

Lecan kept his arm raised.

A crawly sensation remains in his right forefinger.

--It felt like the magic flew straight forward thanks to this forefinger, and it also felt like this finger restricted mana that flowed through it. Fumu...

As he went on his way toward the stairway, he encountered another Brown Furball.

Lecan stops 20 step away from it, this time he grips all his right fingers and thrusts his fist towards the magic beast.

"<Flame Spear>!"

The spell didn't activate right away. A mass of spherical flame was generated in front of his fist, growing bigger while rotating in place before flying straight at the target.

An intense explosive sound echoed, the Brown Furball had been blown into bits.

Quite some power that was.

But could this really be called <Flame Spear>. It's probably a kind of modified <Flame Spear>.

He met another Brown Furball right before the stairway.

This time Lecan formed his hand like the shape of a blade and thrust it forward toward the magic beast.

"<Flame Spear>!"
<TLN: If you're reading this novel at any other site than Sousetsuka .com you might be reading an unedited, uncorrected version of the novel.>
A wide flat flame destroyed the enemy this time.

--Not good. It got way weaker and lacked control.

Floor 14 magic beasts are fourth rank Sky Fish, Eyeball Redfish (Enuruch).

Lecan was a bit shocked when he first saw this magic beast, a giant eyeball floating in the air.

These magic beasts possess an exceptional detection ability able to detect faraway enemies unhindered by the dense formation of twisted pillars found here. Then it will patiently wait until the enemy comes within 30 steps from it before using <Petrification> on it.

Last time he encountered one, Lecan's entire body felt numb when he received an attack from this magic beast, but he immediately got free of the binding thanks to his ring and moved on to cut it down. Afterward, he defeated all other Eyeball Redfish before they could attack him by approaching them while hiding behind pillars. As such, he had no idea what they would do after using <Petrification>.

According to the handbook, it would latch its feelers into the petrified enemy and suck their body fluid dry.

This time, Lecan has a mean to attack from a distance as well. He also probably holds the upper hand in range, but thanks to the pillars scattered all over the place, he won't be able to see most targets within 30 step away either.

In other words, their chances are about even.

--Let's go with battle of speed.

In short, it's a match of cast time, whether his enemy would cast <Petrification> first or his <Flame Spear> first.

In the end, Lecan encountered two Eyeball Redfish before arriving at the stairway.

Lecan won both battle of speed.

However Lecan felt something amiss as he turned around before the stairway and said his thanks toward the magic beasts.

Chapter 270 Strongest Sage, Fights Against Old Swordstyle

About an hour later.
Just as the waves of monsters have stopped coming, [Combatant Mira] speaks.

"Looks like it's over."

"Yea."

I move to a spot free of monsters' corpses.
We can finally fight now.

"Do you have enough mana? I can wait if you need to recover yours."

[Combatant Mira] asked me while readying his sword.
Of course, I've got enough mana.

...Since I barely used any in the battle just now.

"Yea. How about you, is your body holding up?"

"No problem... or not really, but this is good enough. This body won't heal just by resting."

[Combatant Mira] took a stance with his sword.
His eyes are bloodshot and breathing rough--but I could feel a wealth of experience in his stance.

『Umm... Why's Mathi-kun worrying about your opponent?』

『He'd be more obedient if he fought me with all his strength... We want this guy to lead us to other [Warmongers], can't let him die just like that.』

It's not like I'm being courteous here because I'm looking forward to fighting this guy.
There's a chance [Combatant Mira] won't tell the other guys in [Warmongers] about me if he loses in a way that doesn't satisfy him.

Let him fight with everything he has and crush him.
That's the only reason why I culled out all the monsters and created a situation that enabled a 1-on-1 fight.
Combatants are a creature that holds respect to an opponent they lost to in a fight they gave everything to.

"...Fight!"

[Combatant Mira] is closing the distance between us while moving like he's sliding around.
--A peculiar walking style.
As if he's moving left and right, making it hard for his opponent to discern.

I'm familiar with this move.
『Ias Swordstyle』。
It was a swordsmanship that competed to and lost against the prevalent [Loita Swordstyle] in the past era.

Of course, there's a reason why it went into a decline.
It's hard to discern movement of 『Ias Swordstyle』 users, fighting them could prove difficult if it's your first time against the style.
However, once you've seen through these movements, [Ias Swordstyle] is nothing more than an inefficient sword style full of wasted movements.

With that in mind--I took the [Ias-Style Swordmanship] stance myself.
Then I step forward into [Combatant Mira]'s range while swaying left and right.
I'm employing the same swordsmanship to show him the gap in strengths.

--Right at that moment, [Combatant Mira] swung his sword.
A swing without any wasted movements, going straight to cut my neck off.
<TLN: If you're reading this novel at any other site than Sousetsuka .com you might be reading an unedited, uncorrected version of the novel.>
This one swing is not that of [Ias Swordstyle].
No wasted moves, tracing the most efficient track to kill enemy, this is a swing of [Loita Swordstyle].

A fusion between [Ias Swordstyle]'s bewitchment, and [Loita Swordstyle]'s killing power huh.
Anyone could come up with this idea--but one needs a considerable skill to actually use it at a high level.
This [Combatant Mira] must have been quite strong in his past life.

I brushed away his sword while thinking that.
And then--the sword flew off [Combatant Mira]' hand just like that.

"Wha..."

I thrust my sword before his neck while he had a look of shock on his face.
What happened just now is not because of the difference in physical strength due to this guy's incomplete resurrection.

My pure skill with swords is simply better than him.
That's all.

Outwardly, it may look like [Combatant Mira] just lost grip of his sword--but surely, the guy himself understands the most about the gap in our strength.

"Want another go?"

I asked the aghast [Combatant Mira].
But he shook his head.

"It's my loss... To think there's a combatant such as you in this era."

"So will you keep your promise on this fight's term?"

"...The losers have no right to refuse."

[Combatant Mira] cast a comm magic as he said that.
It's not like the one we're usually using, but a type that let other people in the area to hear the content.

"Can you hear me?"

"Ou, what's up?"

"Comm magic from you of all people, that's rare!"

We could hear those voices from the receiver side.
Looks like this spell is connected to other [Warmongers].

Captain Doug made an exaggerated bow when he went into the room.

"I have brought adventurer Lecan with me!"

"Henjit-sama has granted his permission for that person to enter this room."

"Sir! Lecan-dono, if you would."

Lecan hesitated whether to get in the room or not for a bit.

After all, there are one knight with needlessly pompous equipment, two knights that aren't, and two men who wear exaggerated attires like that of officials occupying the majority of spaces inside not the relatively small room.

Captain Doug even had to get close enough to a soldier in the corner of the room that their shoulders touched to make enough room for Lecan to enter.

"Show your respect to Henjit-sama!"

One of the knights shouted, but Lecan just kept standing there silently.

"It's fine, it's fine. He must have forgotten himself being in the present of a high ranking knight all of a sudden. I forgive you. Lecan or something."

Lecan silently looks down at Henjit.

Henjit has the lowest stature in this room. Compared to Lecan, it's like comparing an adult to a child.

"I hear you have dedicated dungeon items found in the lower stratum to our household. Very admirable. Keep up your good work. Be sure to put up articles with Graces in this town's auction. You hear me. You may leave if you do."

Lecan left the room without bowing even once. He could hear Henjit shouting behind him.

"Captain. Has my elder brother not come out of the dungeon yet?"

"Yes, he hasn't come out yet."

"Departing for lower stratum himself in a quest for Grace items, truly he is the model man of a military family. Employs everything you have to make sure that nothing happens to elder brother."

"Sir!"

Lecan left the guard station while thinking that safety is the last thing you expect in a dungeon.

5

Lecan went past the first ten floors without engaging in a fight.

However, if he neglected magic beasts who chased after him, a crowd of them would have formed in the area right before the stairway down, hence he cut off legs of said monsters to keep them from moving.

He didn't run at full speed like last time in the stairways. Yet, Lecan leaped over two stairsteps with each step of his, thus his pace still exceeds that of other adventurers.

He found absolutely no challenge up to the tenth floor, he had no plan to ever set foot on those floors again.

He took a short break and had a meal in the area before the stairways that led to floor 11.

He took out the silver ring and equipped it in his left middle finger.

Then he took out the handbook he got from Captain Doug last time and skimmed over it.

On the list of magic beasts that appear on each floors of this dungeon, there are simple explanations detailing about those magic beasts.

There's an explanation about the dungeon's traits at the beginning.

"Golbul dungone is a medium sized 30-floor dungeon, however this dungeon houses a huge variety of magic beasts, and we have confirmed that all kinds of magic beasts could spawn inside except for Merfolks and Dragons. Anyone can choose which magic beasts to hunt to match their fighting style in this dungeon. Floor 1 to 10 are cave shaped, floor 11 to 20 are infinite fulcrum shaped, floor 21 to 30 are consecutive stone hut shaped."

Upper stratum, or in other words, floor 1 to floor 10, are suited for beginners, either solo or in a small group. Middle stratum, floor 11 to floor 20 are suited for a group of intermediate level explorers.

However, lower stratum, floor 21 to 30, host magic beasts that are too strong to fight alone yet too narrow of spaces for a group of people to fight in. As such, the lower stratum is unpopular among adventurers.

And that's exactly where Lecan is going for.

He got down on floor 11.

The plan is to pass through all the floors up to floor 20, but he's going to fight magic beasts that stand in his way.

Lecan feels relieved now that he's got this far. After all, the first ten floors were dim, narrow, with lots of adventurers prowling around, he can't choose his courses freely.

The magic beasts on floor 11 are Bent Nose (Bamboo).

Bent Nose is a third rank Boar Demon magic beast, it's the first magic beast that Lecan encountered when he came to this world, and what brought him to meet Rubianafale.

Lecan walked briskly before arriving at the stairway down without a fight.

Floor 12 magic beasts are Longarm Apes (Zanbald). That said, they're quite smaller than Parade and only about half as big as Jericho even though they're of the same species.

He didn't engage in a fight on this floor either.

Floor 13 magic beasts are fourth rank of Evil Snake magic beasts, Flat White Snake (Uraslin).

Lecan felt sick when he saw these magic beasts. His body remembered the time he was made to drink the snake's venom and suffered from it.

Lecan raised his right arm, gripped his fingers except for index finger which he pointed out, slowly converged mana in his body and chanted a spell.

"<Flame Spear (Bandroux)>!"

A small flame was generated on the tip of his finger, then it formed into a long big spear of flame in a blink of an eye and flew off toward the magic beast.

Flat White Snakes are a magic beast that's sensitive to heat. It must have sensed a sign of this magic. It quickly dodged to the right and jumped toward Lecan.

Lecan took his sword out of <Storage> with his right hand and cut the incoming Flat White Head in half.

--The cast time is too slow.

No matter how powerful it is, it's useless in battle when there's this much time lag between chanting and casting.

Lecan pointed his right index finger at one of countless withered tree-like pillars inside the dungeon.

"<Flame Spear>!"

This time the spell activated in half the time compared to last time.

Just as he thought, imagining the spell quickly and firmly inside his mind resulted in a faster cast time.

This time he loosely raised his right arm and pointed at a different pillar.

"<Flame Spear>!"

Nothing happened.

Lecan realized the reason for this failure. He neglected to converge his mana before chanting the spell. Of course the magic wouldn't get cast.

Converge mana.

Point finger.

Chant the spell.

He has to follow these procedures down to a T without any mistake.

--In the end, there's no difference between swordsmanship and magic huh.

Once you've learned a sword technique, you cannot skip having to gain a certain amount of experience on it before it could be deployed in an actual combat. Furthermore, in order to employ such a technique momentously at the right timing with the most efficient way possible during a series of battle, you need an accumulation of ingenuity and practices beforehand.

Even a low powered plain-looking technique could make a surprising result depending on expertise.

More so for a swordsman like Lecan, getting his hand on powerful ranged means of attack like <Flame Spear> carries a significant meaning.

He's got to diligently polish it up from now on.

Shikkaku Mon no Saikyou Kenja Chapter 269

Chapter 269 Strongest Sage, Pushes Term

"What was that sword just now!?"

"Wonder if that sword has been augmented with a powerful enchant?"

"No... The sword itself is just an ordinary sword. You can do that much with an ordinary sword if you have the skill."

I look at the sword of 『Combatant Mira』.

His movements look dull, most likely due to his imperfect resurrection--but his swordsmanship is pretty up there.
He would have been quite a force to be reckoned with had the resurrection been perfect.

While thinking that, I faced [Combatant Mira] and shouted.

"Very well. I accept your challenge! --But you have to agree on my term!"

"...Let me hear this term of yours. Just so you know, no point in begging for your life. I kill anyone I fight without fail. I kill anyone who refuses to fight me. And of course I kill those who try to run away."

In other words, anyone who fought and lost to this guy would be killed.

Well, I don't have any problem with that.
There's no point in pondering about if I lose when I'm going to win anyway.

"It's not about if I lose. But when I win."

"Simply kill me then... I'll just take my own life if you won't."

I see.
『Death to the losers』 applies to himself as well.

I don't get why this guy is so fixated in dying... Since all members of [Warmongers] kill the loser in a fight, they share a commonality on this.
As there is no way for us to come to an understanding on this point, there's no meaning in talking about this.

"I don't care if you want to die... But I'd like you to tell other [Warmongers] about me before you do."

I said that to [Combatant Mira] while cutting up all the incoming monsters.

"...About you?"

"Yeah. I wish to have a bout with other [Warmongers], you see."

Hearing that [Combatant Mira]--grinned.
And then he asks me.
<TLN: If you're reading this novel at any other site than Sousetsuka .com you might be reading an unedited, uncorrected version of the novel.>
"Are you perhaps... a bird of a feather?"

"...I won't deny being a battle maniac, but please don't liken me with you lot. I don't pick a fight with innocent people nor I kill them."

[Combatant Mira] looked unamused when he heard me.
Then he asks me with a serious look.

"What is there to gain in a fight without death?"

"You're going to lose here because you cannot understand that... So are you going to agree on my term or what?"

"...Fine. I'm going to win anyway... Guh."

[Combatant Mira] fell on his knee as he replied me while slashing a monster.
He didn't suffer an attack in particular.

It's just that his body is just in too bad of a shape.
His life force is very low as well.
...This guy's probably gonna die in a month even if we leave him alone.

"Can you really fight in that state?"

"It's because of the magic that revived me. Wish it had revived me in my heyday... But I've died once already. Can't complain."

"...Was it really magic that revived you?"

The resurrection done by [Broken Star] is not magic.
To begin with, reviving the dead cannot be done with principle of magic.

In my past life, there were a few examples of [phenomenon that cannot be explained with magic] done by space monsters.
It's called [Suprarational Deeds], and it's distinctly different than magic.

[Suprarational Deeds] are easily mistaken with magic to those who aren't familiar with magic--but it's hard to believe that a high level magic combatant of the past era would mistake revivals by way of [Broken Star] for magic.

"That's--"

As [Combatant Mira] was going to answer me, he suddenly shut his mouth and grimaced.
Then he speaks to me.

"It appears that I have been barred to utter that... Would have liked to be given the liberty to at least speak whatever I want to those facing their death."

Magical gag huh.

...These low-level revivals of the dead really are the work of a human, not [Broken Star] then.
I don't see why an already dead [Broken Star] would went out of its way to put a gag on those it revived.

That said, revival of the dead is impossible with pure magic, so someone must have formulated a spell art that makes use of [Broken Star] to perform these revivals.
We might have to defeat that spellcaster once we're done dealing with [Warmongers].

We beat more and more monsters while thinking that.

『T-these two guys of opposing sides are just talking like it's normal...』

『And they're even cooperating together nicely to deal with these monsters... It's a world I can never hope to understand.』

『It's probably a world where only battle maniacs can comprehend...』

The girls sounded like they couldn't believe us when they saw us conversing.
Looks like they can't understand the feeling of enjoying a fight nice and slowly free of nuisance.

Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku 17-11

17-11. Realm of Gods Revisited

Satou here. I couldn't deal with allegories that teach moral lessons well. I think it's partly because of the strict limit on number of characters, but man, you just lose interest fast when it's laid out so plainly before the climax.

"""Human, come forth."""

After receiving a summon to the realm of gods from god Tenion through Sera, I dropped by the place once again.

"""Human, to the Ring of Audience."""

I went forward and stopped before the gods.

"""Offer your prayers."""

I was planning to give my thanks for the matter with Aze-san which I missed last time, but then I caught a sight of a twinkling green light coming from god Tenion in the corner of my vision.
I could somehow tell that she was warning me to, "take it easy", so I offered my prayers reasonably.

It was mostly the same as last time, but there's one big difference compared to before.

And that's--.

"Heya there, sorry 'bout this. Calling you here without consulting first and all."

The one who amicably sent thoughts was a small purple structure that was half as big as other gods size-wise.
It's got weak lights and a simple design to it, shaped like a wire puzzle in the shape of two entwined triangles.

"Stay back, demon god."

God Heraruon divulged the purple structure's identity just like that.

It really seems to be the demon god.
But his friendly attitude kind of strays from my image of him.

"Hear hear Heraruon! You thief god--"
"Silence, Zaikuon. Why don't you realize that the lower world people are losing their faiths precisely because there's someone like you who would scorn anyone out of mischief here."
"Shut up, Garleon!"
"Zaikuon, Garleon, you two keep it down. Karion said so."
"I didn't. Urion, stop with your delusions."

These gods are so noisy. Unlike their supernatural forms, their mental capacities are like that of gods in Greek myth; human-like in nature.
From what god Zaikuon said, apparently thief god is a derogatory term for demon god.

No wait, that doesn't matter.
There are more important things to think about.

To begin with, why is a god that should have been sealed away here in this place, and why is he acting friendly toward the seven pillar gods, I've got more questions now.

"Oh, please excuse my discourtesy. This clown will stay behind the line, if you will top seat-sama."

The self-mocking demon god stepped back while god Heraruon who shined like the sun stepped forward.

I saw a pale blue light coming closer toward the purple light behind god Heraruon.
She kind of looks like a spoiled puppy.

Wonder if god Parion is attached to the demon god?

"We forbid the destruction of 『Towers』."

The old structure, Laluloluliluheaph conveyed god Heraruon's words to me.

"Don't forget about printing."
"I know. You clown stay in the corner."

When the demon god interrupted, god Heraruon scattered around irritated-looking ripples of orange lights.
The nymph and apostle structures nearby curled up in fear, while the demon god himself twinkled jokingly, "Ooh, scary."

"Get away from him, Parion!"
"You must not get close to demon god. Parion's pure lights would be defiled by demon god's miasma."
"--No"

God Zaikuon's yellow light and god Garleon's blue light pulled apart the peevish god Parion from demon god.

"Chief-sama has given his command. You shall not do this printing thing in the lower world."

God Heraruon told me that through the old structure.
From the way this old structure is speaking, looks like printing press doesn't exist in this realm of gods.

"I got the permission last time though?"
"A mere low class human objecting the command of great god, know your place!"

The old structure flew into rage when I indirectly expressed my objection at the inconsistent order.

While ignoring the phantom torrent of flames sent by the old structure, I observed the gods towering behind him.
Most of the gods seem apathetic, only two who had different reactions, god Tenion who seemed sorry and demon god who was observing me in delight.

From the flow of conversation, it must be demon god who seeks to ban printing press.

"Could I inquire the reason for the ban on printing press?"

"Y-you, know your--"
"Now now, Lalilulelo-cchi. Don't get so worked up."
"Who the heck's Lalilulelo! This name Laluloluliluheaph has been honored to me by the great god-sama!!"

Demon god who had warped in front of me before I knew it tried to calm the enraged old structure only to get the opposite result.

"Sorry, sorry. As an apology, I'll take it upon myself to explain instead. That okay with you, top seat-sama?"

Demon god nonchalantly brushed off the old structure's anger and asked god Heraruon.

"Looks good--"

Demon god deciphered god Heraruon's silent as an affirmative and started explaining.

"Printing press is bad news. Promoting the proliferation of technology and communication means is bad enough in itself, but the real bad news is the concept of idea. --We've got no book culture in god's realm, so these great gods here have no idea about the danger of that."

The demon god got close to me and said the last part in whisper.

"And you're familiar with book culture?"
"I spent a long time in the lower world, you see."

Demon god affirmed it.

"However--"
"No objection is permitted."

Demon god curtly refused.

"Well then, demon god--sama. Could you honor me with your name?"
"I've long abandoned my old name. It's demon god now. A god who rules over magic, monsters, and demons. Nothing less, nothing more."

That's one curious way to explain.

"Then, Demon God-sama."
"No need for 『sama』. Just call me demon god."

Is it because that would have made it sound like Tenion-sama?
Calling him [Demon God] is kind of like calling him by first name, kinda awkward.

"Would you be willing to tell me the reason for the ban on destroying 『Towers』 near locations with crowded populations?"

Personally, I'd like to press more about printing press, but this one is higher in the priority list.

"Ah, that huh. Humm, I've gone out of my way to create those with the little of divinity I got, can't have ya just go around destroying them, do we. Well, those things were not supposed to be destructible though. No seriously, you know?"

Those purple towers are demon god's creations, just as I thought.

But, for what--.

"You wanna know why I made those 『Towers』?"
"Yes."

I nodded to demon god who almost looked like he had read my mind.

"The conventional threat system by way of monsters and demons was nearing its limit, see. Even though fear and repugnance toward me soared up, the amount of prayers toward gods didn't increase as much as predicted."

He went and confessed that they were a match pump to collect faiths to gods from people. <TLN: Match Pump, a phrase for 'stirring up trouble to get credit from the solution.'>

"It was good enough as a deterrent for wars between men, but it didn't work as well as dungeons for collecting and purifying miasma. It's not exactly a failure, neither it's a success though."

Fumu, the part about it being a war deterrent seemed to be the truth.

"『Towers』 are the upgraded version of that function. They're a kind of labyrinths, but the monsters inside would get weaker the more prayers and gratitudes people collectively offered to gods. I don't mind you informing that fact to people, but since we've arranged hints about it already, they'll find out soon enough anyway, I think? I had a hard time trying to visualize faith toward gods, but the self-serving people of the lower world would get desperate to offer their prayers so long as they've got a carrot dangled right in front of them."

Contrary to his jeering tone, I could feel loneliness and sadness coming from demon god.

"In other words, those towers were created for the benefit of gods?"
"Yep. They benefit people too, indirectly that is. Of course, I gain something myself as well."

Getting the leftover divinity is an attractive deal, the demon god boasted.
Got a feeling that he doesn't actually care about the divinity itself.

"In other words, am I correct to assume 『Towers』 as a device to stimulate people to offer prayers to gods?"
"Yep you got that right. And it's not an exploitative relationship, those towers also act as a device that helps promote growth on people by giving them chances to obtain magic cores and treasures."

Demon god answered my question.

I think, those towers also function as a blade pointed before your neck.
Divine punishments in the form of [Monster Stampedes] could happen anytime if people violate the taboo.

"Just so you know, gods are not enemy of the people."

Demon god seemed to have guessed my mind and declared that.

"It was the gods who transformed the lands to be inhabitable for people to live in, and it was also the gods who created men. Watching over people to grow up correctly and scolding and correcting the error of a rebellious child are part of gods' duties."

The way he said it sounded sarcastic somewhat, but I've heard something similar to the later part from Aze-san before.

"Suppose people as sheep, and gods as ranch owners, I think? Faith is like the wool, and in return gods provide them with a pasture and a proper environment to grow up in. Truly an ideal Win-Win relationship, don'tcha think."

I could sense a bit of sneers in Demon god's words.
He's on the side of gods, but it feels like his goal differs a bit than them.

"Well, I think that covers it? Got any more question? I don't mind giving you answers to questions I can answer, you know?
"Are the reincarnated and you--"

My words disappeared midway through.
I was going to ask his purpose for granting fragments to the reincarnated people, but a restraining thought wave the demon god blew at me halted me.
I could brush aside the restraint if I just fired myself up, but he's most likely not gonna give me an answer even if I succeed saying the whole question.
In fact, this response of his is a form of answer in a way.

"You are supposed to be sealed off by gods in legends handed down in the lower world, would it be fine to inquire you about that?"
"Seal? Oh I am sealed."

What's going on?
Are there two demon gods or something?

"What have been sealed are the other half of my body, claws and fangs--it's my fighting spirit and insanity that are sealed off."

Looks like this demon god is the part that governs his reasoning power.
Apparently both are like split spirits (mitama).

"--Pshaw. It's like a black spot in my history, so try to not get too close to the moon. It should be fine since it's been sealed in a dimensionally shifted location, but you could get yourself swallowed up if you carelessly approach it."

I see, that explains how nothing happened when I went to the moon.
If I had taken just one wrong step, it could have resulted in the advent of demon god Satou.

"Keep the stuff about me off-record, okay. Especially to the demons and demon lords. Those guys' gonna make more mischief if they knew that I'm not sealed off."

Looks like the fact that the sensible side of demon god being outside of the seal is kept secret from demons.

"Does that mean, the one who stopped goblin demon lord from trying to undo the moon seal was--"
"Yep yep. It was me. Although that seal wouldn't have come off with such a rough treatment anyway, there was a chance it would loosened up in a half-baked state."

Looks like he was the man Arisa and the girls saw.

"Well, that's that. Don't destroy the purple towers and don't propagate printing press, make sure to adhere to these two things. Of course, keep this one off the record too."

Demon god gave a warning once again.

"I'd feel bad if we just prohibit everything, so we'll give you permission to create printing press and copy machines in secret. That's okay right, top seat-sama?"

God Heraruon sent out light waves that signified approval to demon god.

"And that's an OK. Oh right, I don't mind if you publish guides on how to conquer the 『Towers』--I can simply deploy update patches if I see real bad exploits, so go on and spread those guides worry free."

Demon god added something that sounded like it was coming from a game developer.

"Good work. Fall back, human."

With god Heraruon's words conveyed through the old structure telling me to exit, I couldn't ask any more question and was forced to leave the realm of gods.

<TLN: If you're reading this novel at any other site than Sousetsuka .com you might be reading an unedited, uncorrected version of the novel.>

"Eh~, ban on printing~"
"Every temple got oracles regarding the purple towers."

After returning to the solitary island palace, I called only Arisa, Liza and Hikaru inside a completely isolated barrier made by goblin princess Yuika to discuss about our future plan.

"Master, are you sure it's okay to tell us that?"
"It's fine. The stuff we talk about here won't leak outside, so don't worry about it."

The [Demon God Fragment] inside Arisa potentially contains a back door, but the gods seemed indifferent about it anyway, and I got the feeling the demon god himself had no intention to seriously act upon it.

Or rather--.

"Spread it around and lower faiths toward gods, won't surprise me if he actually had that goal in mind."
"Un, I think so too. I mean, that demon god didn't need to go out of his way and talk about his alliance with the gods and the stuff about match pump to Satou, they could just prohibit the destruction of purple towers and let you be on your way."
"True enough."

Liza nodded to Arisa and Hikaru's words.

"It's probably a good idea to take what the demon god said with a grain of salt."
"Un, I think that's a good idea too."

At Arisa's statement, Hikaru, I and Liza agreed to it.

"And what was the oracle about?"
"It was like, 『Go and seal towers of demon trickery with the power of gods. O brave faithful ones, challenge the towers and crush demons' ploy. O powerless ones, pray piously, as that shall empower the brave ones』 or something like that."

According to Hikaru, the content differed a bit depending on the temple.
With this oracle, there was a huge rush of people attempting to enter the towers, to the point that even the king's decree couldn't contain them.

"Should I tell Sete about the ban on tower destroying?"
"Well we can't keep silent about it forever."

"Are you saying that we should instead encourage people to conquer those towers? Isn't that exactly what the demon god wants to happen?"

Arisa's worry is reasonable.

"--Arisa."
"Yes, Liza-san?"

Liza who had been listening to us quietly turned toward Arisa.

"What makes a trap frightening is being caught in one without prior knowledge. No matter how ingenious it's hidden, no matter how dangerous it is, there is no need to be afraid of a trap that has lost its secrecy. All you have to do is to step on it and break through as it activates."

That sounds like Liza alright.

Hikaru and Arisa looked at each other and then burst out laughing without a prompt.

"Un, that's exactly right."
"I mean, we've got our cheat master with us after all."

I can destroy all the purple towers in the world within hours of trap activation if I just set teleport points to enable Unit Arrangement near them and cast anti-god magic outside the range of human habitations.
Next, I just need to think up a way to save explorers wandering inside those towers all at once, I guess?

"Ah, he's gone into meditation mode."
"It's going to be fine judging from that face."
"Okay then, I should go tell Sete about the ban on tower destroying."
"Then I will be going to inform everyone that conquering the purple towers may be a trap set by demon god."

When I snapped out of the sea of thoughts, I found Tama curling up on my lap, and Pochi and Mia leaning against me while sleeping.
I'm getting sleepy just looking at these three peaceful slumbers.

It's not like the few solutions I came up with could be done in one or two days anyway, let's take a short break here.

Nighty night--ZZZzzz.
