Skill? Nee yo Sonnamon! Chapter 45

Idle Talk 1 Cliched Reincarnation

This episode is about reincarnation of the summoned hero.

I was in a white space when I came to.
Rather everything is white as far as I can see, I'm not even sure if my eyes are working.
There's nothing here. Nobody. I don't even see my own body. Wait, where's my body?
What's happening to me?

Ah, this must be a dream. A dream where you're aware, lucid dream or something.
Heard you can experience everything you want in dreams like this. Gotta have some fun before I wake up.
Time to have an isekai OP play like in those web novels. Oh also I want a harem with many girls and a normie life.
...How do you even make your dream do that? Maybe by imagining hard or something but this space has nothing but white. Is this a hyperbolic chamber thingy or what?

<<Um, excuse me, could you come back to your sense?>>

I heard a voice all of a sudden in this space where nobody else is around.
From the tone, I think it's a woman's? Audible yet invisible.

(W-whoa, what... Who's there?)

<<Pardon me. You were so absorbed in your desires for isekai OP harem and the likes, I could not find the right timing to interject.>>

(Eh? D-did I say that out loud? My bad.)

Uwaa, so embarrassing. But I mean that's men's dreams. You can't blame me.

<<I cannot blame you, is it... Are all men like that?>>

!?
Eh, pretty sure I didn't say that one out loud though?
Did you read my mind?

<<Yes well. You are in a state of bodyless soul, hence the act of thinking is akin to talking.>>

(S o u l? Bodyless? Eh?)

<<Do you remember your final memory at the time of your death?>>

Final? Death?
Why are you talking like I'm dead already.
Where is this place anyway. Isn't this inside my dream. What were I doing before I went to bed again?

I had a day off yesterday and went fishing at the sea by myself.
I was spacing out while thinking about looking for another part time job cause the shift was too much but doing that would be a pain too, then I got a hit, slipped off the fishing spot, and fell down the sea, and then...  And then?

<<And then you hit your head, fell unconscious and died by drowning as a result.>>

(Eh, no, eh? Wha? Eh?)

N-no way. T-that's it, that memory must be part of my dream.
I mean come on. I'm still 20. I don't have a particular goal or things I wanna do, but I'm just starting out in life, I'm sure to find one someday, and now this.
Wake me up from this dream please. How do I pinch my cheek with no hands again.

<<...Unfortunately, it is an undeniable reality. You have passed away.>>

(...Nooo. But I still hadn't done it yet. I never even held hands with a girl you know? Heck, I barely had friends.)

<<My condolences. But it's not all bad, you see?>>

(Hm? What? Am I headed for heaven?)

<<...In a way, that may very well be one to you. Depending on your efforts, you might be able to achieve that men's dream thing?>>

(C-could it be.)
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >

<<Yes, as long as you are willing to, I shall reincarnate you in a world I manage.>>

(Good work on the template line cough cough... Is that for real!? Am I gonna be super OP and have kya kya moments with girls there!?)

<<Template...? Yes well. You won't be invincible at the beginning nor will there be women throwing themselves at you, however it is possible to make adjustments as to help toward that eventually... Rather, 'girls' was it, so you're set on multiple from the onset...>>

She spoke with a low tone, I could imagine her having a repulsed look on her face.

(Wait you said 'world you manage'. Does that mean you're a god of that world?)

<<You may take my existence as what you have in mind. I am not omnipotent, however there are plenty of feats I am capable of.>>

(Really... By the way, what's the reason for my reincarnation? Can't be cause you feel pity to my dumb way of dying, can you?)

<<...To tell you the truth, I wish to impose a request on you.>>

(Ah, figured there's a catch. Let me guess, are you going to ask me to defeat a demon king that's threatening to destroy the world? Nah, no way it's gonna be that cliche, right.)

<<T-that is indeed the case... You're quite perceptive.>>

(...Eh?)

<<Eh?>>

...
That's way to cliched! What's up with that template of template reason!
And I was just throwing that out in a jest. And now the mood got awkward.

(E-err, uh, sorry. It's my bad.)

<<O-oh no, please don't mind it...>>

An awkward tension ran because I ran my mouth off.
...Let's get back on track.

(Can't a god do something to that demon king yourself? He can't be stronger than a god, right.)

<<No, my interference is limited to managing the world. I have been restricted from directly intervening with those living in that world. By an even higher being.>>

(So something like a scary boss god. Guess even gods have work cut out for them too.)

<<Yes, truly...>>

Ah, the mood got heavy somewhat.
...I better not touch on this subject.

<<A-anyway, left to his own device, that Demon King would inflict unimaginable damage to humanity. He might even drive them to extinction. As I cannot eliminate him myself, I wish to ask you to do so in my stead, what do you say?>>

(E-err... Do I get special privileges by reincarnating? I mean there's no way I could go up against that world destroying monster with my base specs.)

<<Indeed you do. You will be granted a Job that affords you to gain powers necessary to defeat Demon King. Ah, I suppose I should explain what Job and Status are first.>>

...It really feels like the template of isekai reincarnation or teleportation story the more I hear about this.
I mean at least it doesn't sound suspicious, but on the other hand the development has no individuality to it. It's all cliche stuff.
Well, dying young is a shame but I guess that's better than spending my life doing crappy part time jobs.
I heard her saying Status earlier, wonder if it's a world with a fantasy RPG-like setting. That's cliche too, but I won't deny I'm getting a bit excited.

319 Sought After Thing

I don't see any goblin anywhere on floor one. Wonder if it's thanks to Chimera running around all over the place?
And where is the marquis, the one it's hunting at now?
Since floor one is a bit of a maze, at worst, they might have gone into a route that doesn't lead outside.

Our party's got Melgis though, so we're not gonna lose our way.

"Hey hey, will you tell me the source of your strength, pretty please."

Mary spoke to me all of a sudden. Firuna admonished her.

"Let it go already, Mary. We have an agreement with him not to probe the matter."

"Mary is the most passionate when it comes to seeking strength among us after all. There ain't no stopping her, not even us."

Kidd persuaded Firuna.

"I'm not asking it for free. I'll give you everything I got in this expedition in exchange. And if that's not enough, I can still splurge more money."

The other members were taken aback by this. Her resolve is firm.
No, it shows how much she puts importance on strength above money.
She'll pay as much as she can if it means obtaining power.

"Mary, you're getting overboard."
"Oy oy oy, how much that's gonna be? Take a step back and think again."

Danku and Melgis tried to stop her.
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
Looks like this is the reason for her emotional instability.

Envy, yearning and fixation toward strength. 'I want to become even stronger' feelings.
Mary has been repeating how her magic is the best in the world all this time. That must be her conviction given form.
Enter me who overturns that conception. She must feel conflicted, on one hand she's envious of me and on the other hand she wishes to know my secret. Although this is nothing more than a conjecture of mine.
Her magic's firepower is incredible. She's not all talk.
She's been living her life as an adventurer with that conviction uncontested, so I can't blame her for feeling confused now.

As such, I'm not really against loosening up some rules for her.
I'd like to see how she'd react and to clear away that murkiness.
Even if it might result in more murkiness with the person in question not believing instead.
I think I've gotten a bit attached to these guys after this dungeon delving experience.
There is no telling if this would result in regret later on or not at this point of time.

Hence, I gave my reply, swept by the flow.

"Sure I don't mind. I'll divulge about myself a bit. Keep the cash. But let me tell you this now. I do not have what you seek, Mary. Still you want to know?"

I asked this seriously with a bit of pressure.
Mary replied unflinching.

"Let me know. Even if it doesn't directly lead to me getting stronger, the knowledge and experience I gain from it should connect me to that 'strength'."

I'm amazed she's aware of the fact that there are different types of strength.

(Huh, so she's thought this through. Much better than just being singlemindedly focused on magic. Can't say her attitudes toward me were commendable though.)

"Fine, then let's talk once the other members turn at that corner. I'm only telling Mary. Is that fine with you?"

I checked with White Fang. They readily agreed.

"I'm kinda curious too, but yeah that's fair."
"If it means making Mary even stronger. Man, you've really been such a big help."
"We owe you way too much to ever repay."
"Everything you have done for us in this dungeon will help support our future endeavors."

Mary spoke afterward.

"We'll take all the money and magic tools. That may sound shameless to you. But we're gonna keep on crushing dungeons from here on. To that end, we need money and magic tools. We're taking it in our hands to never let a single outflow of any dungeon ever happen."

The entire crew of 'White Fang' had a resolute look on their face. Seeing that, I was.

(What is this, a heroic tale? This lot would work great as protagonists.)

Poking fun of it inwardly.

Skill? Nee yo Sonnamon! Chapter 44

Two Full Moons

Three days have passed since Jet Boar was exterminated and the village ceased getting raided ever since.
Must be because the herd lost its boss who would lead them here. Even if those boars come again, the villagers can simply deal with them like usual.
For the time being, the outbreak seems to have lapsed. Our client, Jeinweik-san also deemed commission complete and kept thanking us endlessly. But a gravely injured person should stay in bed, don't stand up you.
The villagers were all overjoyed they could finally welcome harvest period without worries. I'd love to have a taste once they do.
...Yup, taking this commission was the right decision. We can finally cultivate vanilla too.

The village processed Rush Boar mats like fangs, fur and meat without problem but Jet Boar fur was too tough for their tools to cut through, hence, the two of us brought that back to guild.
We transported it to the guild in the same day we killed it, it was super heavy. Naturally given its size.
We could barely transport it by borrowing a cart from the villagers and wearing a powered suit-like mana armor to move it, but it was honestly way too back-breaking a work I put it inside Item Screen once we took a distance away from the village and put it back on the cart after we came near Daijel.
Umu, this Menu's Item Screen is super handy but it's definitely gonna cause a problem if people saw me using it, really gotta come up with a way to hide it.

The townspeople were staring at us on the way to the guild... No way to avoid standing out with this thing in the open. So embarrassing.
Even at the guild, Neia-san yelled out loud when she saw the Jet Boar which brought us attentions of people inside as well. Give me a break.
Then when she was checking our Magic Beast Extermination Log to ascertain we really beat it, she pressed us on our abnormal level growth, 'Weren't you two at level 10-12, just a month ago?'
Oh right, she didn't check our Status when we took the commission. Or rather, we barely showed our faces at the guild ever since we started delving in the dungeon.
We sold stuff we got from the dungeon straight at other stores without going through the guild after all.
Normally, gaining a level or two every month is a good pace for people who are around level 10s, so me and Alma are going abnormally fast.
Well, I mean we're only a party of two so there's more exp to go around, and we've been proactively seeking out magic beasts above lv10 in the dungeon even before the village incident, so of course it's gonna go fast.

As for vanisoi cultivation, the harvesting period apparently changes depending on temperatures, but as they can be harvested anytime, planting them now isn't gonna cause any issue.
The warmer the better it grows apparently and we're entering a warm season so the timing is just right.
Yet it's still gonna take around three months. So we're gonna have to find more vanisoi beans if we want to make vanilla snacks until then.
...We never came across one after that time from a chest though.

By the way, Alma and I took the Jet Boar and two Rush Boars mats while we left the rest to the villagers.
They kept insisting us to bring more, but considering the damage they had suffered from the boar outbreak, those mats were better off with them, not like we could manage so much mats on us anyway.
Heck, taking too much would likely mean nothing but boar meat in our meals for a while. Every once in a while is fine but every day is a bit...
They'd share their crops with us after harvest instead, and I'd prefer that over too much meat, so it's all good.

And thus after cleaning up this and that, we finally came back to Daijel's inn.
We wound up participating in the village banquet so it took a bit. Hope the innlady wasn't too peeved.
It feels like a long journey even though it's only been a week and a half. It's like coming back to your parent's home. Though mine's more like the village's one.

We had meals and took showers in the inn and then went straight to bed. There was no more fighting after Jet Boar but the clean up work was exhausting.
And this is just one commission done. Adventurers sure have it rough.
The sense of accomplishment is unlike anything else though. We've got plenty of rewards too.
Would be nice if other commissions are like this.
Which commission to take tomorrow I wonder. Gotta consult with Alma in front of the guild's bulletin board.
Now then, good night--

"Hikaru! Wake up!"

Just as I was about to drift off, Alma's panicked voice could be heard outside.
Eh, what? What's going on?

"Alma? What's wrong?"

"I was looking at the sky before going to bed and saw both moons being full moons!"

Both? Ah right, this world's got two moons. Forgot cause I never took my time looking at the sky after that first day.
Uh, so what about it?

"...Yeah? That's all?"

"That's not all. When one moon is full the other one should always be hidden. Yet both are full tonight. Something's not right."

Well I mean that sure is weird, but I'm not familiar with this world's common sense so I don't know what to be surprised about.
Is this some kind of omen? Menu-san, any idea?

<<A phenomenon where both moons are full is not related to the normal waning and waxing cycle.>>

<<This phenomenon only occurs when Demon King is born as well as the summoning of Hero, thus recorded in history.>>

Wha?

Wha?

...Oy, oy, Demon King now of all time, that's hell of an event.
The Hero is getting summoned at the same time too huh. Can't both of them just fight their hearts out in the corner or something.

"...Alma, apparently it's the sign of Demon King's birth and Hero's summon."

"E-eeeeeh....!?"

"Well, doesn't look like it's gonna affect us right away. Let's talk about it tomorrow and go to sleep for now. I'm sleepy."

"A-aren't you taking this too lightly...! It's the Demon King and Hero!? Why aren't you more shocked!?"

"Dunno. We've got too little info on hands right now, how are we supposed to gather more this late at night?"

"W-well yes..."

"I do get how unsettling it is. Who knows what's going to happen now. Ah, I bet it's gonna be a huge pain in the rear."

"Y-you're really taking this way lightly..."

Alma is looking unconvinced. I mean how am I supposed to react.
Isn't this better than panicking around like a headless chicken. There's no way to tell how bad the situation is.
...Regardless, let's get ready to deal with anything.
But tonight is the time to sleep. I'm gonna stay in my bed even if Demon King comes knocking my door. Can barely keep my eyes open as is. Good night.

318 Glinting Cat's Eyes

"D-damn monsters..."

I heard that mutter. It came from Marquis Alestain.
He alone managed to avoid getting frozen. Through a magic tool that can block magic once.
This magic tool is the most the marquis has ever paid for an object. Its effect does match its price tag however. Which was just proven.
Thanks to it, the Marquis could afford running for his life toward the stairway to floor one.
Unbeknownst to him this would result in a game of mouse and cat, with another monster.

"Oh crap! That marquis's gonna mess things up if he got outside! We gotta get him first!"

The single worst person they couldn't let go has fled. A critical mistake. Extinguishing the marquis's life here will ensure White Fang's safety in the future.
And yet the main target himself has escaped. Melgis who was about to hurriedly go after the marquis suddenly stopped.
Due to a chill he felt on his back.

Chimera's eyes glinted in that exact moment.
The sharp eyes of a cat who found its prey.

Chimera leaped off my arms and ran straight in the  stairway's direction.
All while effortlessly zigzagging through the complex maze of statues.

Then once it arrived in front of the stairway, Chimera transformed into its Tiger Mode and roared once, 'Gaou'.

(Cats in hunting mode are scary... The marquis is either gonna live through hell getting toyed around for a while, or it's gonna end painlessly in an instant...)

One thing for sure is that the marquis definitely won't feel alive while Chimera is hot on his tail.

"...Let's follow after them. No use staying here..."

Kidd muttered that before proceeding to walk toward the stairway.
He's understood that there is no point in frothing over the marquis now.
The other White Fang members also walked away silently afterward.

I followed behind them.

(What is this? They all look so tired... like they just went through an all-nighter.)

I don't know what they're thinking. But for some reason, I get this urge to cheer them up somehow or another?

"Ah, err... sorry?"

They all turned to look at me with begrudging eyes in unison before sighing out all together.

"It's not your fault... yeah, it's not... right?"
"Right, none of this is anyone's fault..."
"Yup, none at all, I felt like crying. Wish I could blame someone..."
"Marquis... What a pitiful end... Sorry not sorry though."
"Dead or alive does not matter with that pursuing you. We don't need to worry about him anymore, this is absolute."

I didn't really get what was so terrifying with Chimera coming for you, yet 'White Fang' all spoke like it was the end of the world.

Revenge (2) ~Desperate Raw Finish~

I frantically tried to keep my grip on the blade stuck to Jet Boar's head, but this can't keep going on forever.
The idea of using pseudo mana blade trick to send flame down the blade crossed my mind, but there's no way I could do such a delicate technique while being flung all over like this!

『BUUAAGAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!』

"You...! Give it a rest already!"

I clung on while cursing at the bloodied roaring Jet Boar.
Dammit, it's likely gonna flee again if let go of the sword, what should I do.
Hm? It's stopped moving? Has it finally resigned?

『Buguruuuuuuuu!!」

"U-uwaaaa!?"

Just when I thought that, the boar suddenly dashed forward.
Toward

BAAAM!

"Kuh...! Bastard...!"

『BUGAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!』

It rammed itself on a wall in an attempt to crush me.
That's some masterful tactic you wouldn't think a beast with a sword stuck on its head could come up. Is this thing really a magic beast?
I can tell I've lost a lot of my HP. Crap, a few more of that and my HP's gone!
Oh crap, it's heading for the wall again.

Don't

"Get ahead of yourseeeeelf!!"

Crackle crackle crackle crackle!!

『BAGUBUAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!?』

"Aaaaa!! It freaking huuuuuurts!!"

If flame won't do, how about electricity!
Getting electrocuted straight in the brain should stop it! Gotta be a level way above painful!
Even though I don't get damaged so long as I have HP buffer left, this technique delivers pain directly to my sense so it really stings!

"Uwaaaa!! J-just drop dead alreadyyyyy!!

『BUGUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!』

The red boar and me enduring the pain.
Both of us screamed our lungs out.
What a terrible situation this is.

Dammit! The thing's HP is gradually decreasing but my MP is reducing faster!
The mana recovery pill is inside Item Screen. I'd like to take one out but that's just impossible in this state.
Dammit, what should I do, how!
Trying to think straight while getting electrocuted is too much, even under normal circumstances how do you--

As I began to lose track what I was even thinking anymore, somebody's hand gripped my hand on the sword.

"Uuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaa!!"

A scream. I must be hallucinating that screaming of a girl from the electric shock.
Wha, oy, wait.

"A-Alma!? O-oy! What are you!"

"Uuu.... Guuuuuu......!!"

Alma gripped the sword. Oy oy, you shouldn't move with your Mana Shortage, or rather what are you doing here!
There's a powerful current of electricity running on the sword I'm holding.
I'm unharmed thanks to my HP, but ordinary people wouldn't come out unscathed.
In fact, Alma's hands are gradually getting scalded.

"L-let go now! You're getting damaged from the electricity!!"

"Bu..."

Bu?

"Burning Blade...!!"

A moment after she whispered that, BWOSH, a blue flame gushed out of the Jet Boar's head.

『GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!』

Its HP rapidly decreased from its brain getting burned directly.
I see, using mana control to create a flame requires some delicate control but Skills can do it automatically, hence Alma's result!
But she's too reckless! I'm not one to talk though!

『GAGGABUAAAAAAAAAA!!!』

"Uoo!?"

"Hyau!?"

The boar squeezed out the last of its strength to shook both us off.
I immediately caught Alma and neutralized falling damage using a mana cushion.

Jet Boar slumped down the ground right after.
...Finally, it's down for good.

"Alma, I'll be honest with you, you were a big help. Thank you. But that was just too rash. Look how scalded your hands are."

"...I don't want to hear that from the always reckless Hikaru..."

"...Sorry."

Alma's hands have been burned badly. Uwaah, some parts even look charred.
Can a recovery potion heal this? With no scars left?

<<A damage of this scale will likely leave a scar unless she drinks a High Potion.>>

A scar huh, I'd like to avoid leaving one on a maiden. It's my fault. What am I doing really.
Is there nothing I can do?

<<...Transferring life force, healing by way of genetic blueprint of the body, may result in the lack of scars.>>
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >

Eh? Ah right, never tried transferring HP.
Wait, you can do that? ...Probably can.
Let's believe in Menu-san.

"Alma, it might hurt a bit, but can I grip your hands?"

"Eh? ...O-okay."

She's blushing and all, but this is part of your treatment okay?
Ah, my mind ghost is getting restless for the first time in a while. Can this guy say something else besides straight to jail.

Transferring HP, life force from me to Alma through our hands.
I focus on the scalds and image Alma's gene, her body blueprint to turn back to normal.

New tissues seem to be created under the scalds as they peeled off, leaving her original fair skin in its place.

O-oh good. It's a success.

"I-it's cured....!?"

"Yeah. Remember how I said I could control life force directly now? I transferred mine to you and heal your wound. Good thing the scars are gone."

"T-thank you... Hikaru is really amazing."

Fufufu. I think so this time. Self-praise? Say what you want.
Wonder if Alma can do this too if I teach her?

<<Not recommended. Kajikawa Hikaru is able to heal with no risk due to his Status overlapping his base body. However, to people of this world whose body is interlinked with HP, healing by way of life force control may risk shaving off their life span.>>

Yep, out! I'm never teaching her!
That's a way riskier technique than I thought. Gotta be careful not to use this in public.

Now then, Alma's scars are gone and the rest of Rush Boars seem to have been beaten or driven off by the combatant villagers.
It's finally over.

『Gwu...』

!?

The Jet Boar groaned if ever so weakly.

"I-it's still alive...!? ...But."

But it looks completely helpless.
The little bit of its HP is gradually decreasing.
Its state shows Total Paralysis from Brain Damage, it's gonna die in two minutes.

Part of the State displays, 'Agony - Acute Pain'.
...I may have been the one who did this, but I don't want to let it suffer for two minutes. I'd like to quickly end it if possible.
However, neither of us have the power left to do it. Killing this boar would level us up and restores our state but that's the cart, not the horse.

...

I took the fried vanisoi from Item Screen, crushed it with the little mana I got left and tossed it into Jet Boar's mouth.
It's his favorite and all apparently, I hope this could ease his pain at least.

This is nothing more than an act of hypocrisy for my own satisfaction.

What this guy and his friends need are crops, not something like this.
I'm well aware. Both us humans and them magic beasts only fight for the sake of survival, we merely stand on opposite sides.
Thus we cannot coexist. But I'm sure this much is allowed. Even if it's hypocritical, what's so bad about it.
Go on and eat good stuff at the very end.

『...』

Either I was imagining thing, or its expression softened up. Its state turned to 'Tranquil', and the Menu display changed to red in less than two minutes.
The boar is truly and well dead this time.

F-finally over.
Both Alma and I leveled up so our HP and MP got fully replenished, yet the feeling of fatigue was too much.
...That didn't end in a good note. Even though we managed to kill the Jet Boar with no casualty.

"Hikaru, are you all right?"

"...I'm fine, just a bit tired."

"I see, good."

She got worried to see me downcast.
Not good, I gotta perk up, we've beaten the boss after all.
Looks like we can expect some good mats from Jet Boar too. Especially that stupid tough leather, gonna make some equipment out of it.

"By the way, won't that red beast's meat get to smell like the bean."

...

Oh crap, now that I think about it.
W-well, the innards are probably a no go, but the other parts should be fine, I'm sure.

...A pitfall to the end.

Kamisama no Kago wo Kyohishitara?! Chapter 317

317 Statues

It's pretty much a 'you're already dead' state.
Blood is spurting off here and there. Along with dirty spraying sounds, followed by thud, thud, thud. Pools of blood are forming on the ground.
Then suddenly, a familiar cry.

"Meow~."

That startled me. Looking at the source, there Chimera stood like it had always been there.

(Always showing up out of nowhere... I'm at fault for forgetting it though...)

I had completely forgotten about Chimera after it ran off into the forest.
Even though it could have gotten caught up in the dungeon collapse if I left it be.

(But weirdly enough, I just can't imagine that befalling this little guy.)

Nevertheless I still felt bad for neglecting it, so I approached Chimera to soothe it.

"I forgot. Sorry~. But you kept going off on your own. You're gonna do just fine living freely anyway right?"

I don't know where and what it's been doing but its fur has gotten pretty smooth when I pet it as it purrs.
I thought of one thing.

(This guy's mode of life is a complete mystery. It's gonna do just fine even without me tending to its need, one thing for sure.)

That was when I realized the silence.
I stopped petting Chimera and looked around.

Some are frozen in fear, some can't catch up with the sudden development, some keep darting back between the dead and Chimera trying to understand what's going on.
The marquis has its jaw open wide dumbfounded, unable to process what's happening before his eyes.
Looks like he won't come back to reality for a while.

"W-what... is that magic beast..."

Even 'White Fang' seemed to be frozen in fear, and Kidd was the first to finally squeezed out those words.

"Ah, this little guy's, uh, my companion? No, comrade? Pet magic beast? I'm still not sure myself what this guy's supposed to be to me."

"No way... Are you telling us, that magic beast is under your command? You're joking right? Please tell me you're joking..."

Mary has her staff pointed at us with a twitching face.
I gave the opposite of her wish.

"Hm~? I wonder? Chimera came along with me on its own volition after all. But this guy seems to understand what I say just fine, and even saved me when things got hairy once you know?"

That was when those assassins were targeting me. I would have died if not for Chimera roaring to wake me up.
I held Chimera in my arms and walked up to White Fang.

"Look, isn't it cute? I may fawn over this little guy but I let it roam free and it keeps going off somewhere on its own."

"Hold it right there! Please don't come any closer!"

Danku told me to stop. Firuna added.

"I can feel an even more enormous and far denser mana wave than Wraith King... Is that truly a mere 'Magic Beast'?"

"No idea about that either. Or more like, what? What's that mana wave thing...?"

I was going to ask about that maximum chuuni sounding term, but the situation was not ideal.
We were in the middle of annihilating the marquis's villainous force.
The marquis had finally regained himself and started yelling incorrigibly.

"W-w-what! What are you! Who! How did you kill so many! What have you done! Speak!"

"...Like I'd tell anyone my cards. Heck, why would you think I'd disclose that stuff to people trying to kill us?"

"Guunuuu! Oy men, shoot them with all your spells! Make it quick!"

The remaining thugs came to their sense with the marquis's panicked shout. They are hired men at the end of the day. They gotta obey their employer. They were content with that fact. The same fact however let them ignore the scene before them.
Had they accepted the reality of this many people dying in a flash, they could have narrowly escaped with their lives.
But that's an impossible thing to ask from these thugs. None of them has experienced anything like this, so the alarms in their heads never ring.
No, there might have been some who had gone through brutal battlefields. Perhaps, among those who died. No way to ascertain it.

Ten thugs stepped forward and started chanting magic.
However, Mary did it faster.

"O freezing air, o all halting wind! Imprison my enemy! 『Draught of Frigid Gaol』!"

A gale that froze everything it touched spewed out of Mary's staff.
Its coldness was seemingly out of this world, the thugs who got hit by it shrieked in pain.

"Cold! Guaa! Oww! What the hell is this!? Oow!"
"I-I'm freezing to death... What is this..."
"My legs, they're frozen!? Gua! Move dammit!"
"Can't move, too cold?! Dammittall!"

The wind kept raging for a while and by the end, only frozen statues remained.
Yes, these statues were what once the leftover thugs.

(Uwaa... Magic's way freaky... Ain't this crueler?)

"My magic's the best in the whole wooooorld! See! These thugs are easy peasy if I just got the time to shoot my magic!"

"Yeah yeah, count your luck this time. You always get carried away and fail spectacularly. Make no mistake, this isn't just your power."

Melgis cooled the high strung Mary down.
As I was thinking, finally over, a lone figure moved behind the statues.

Skill? Nee yo Sonnamon! Chapter 42

Revenge (1)

The basic stove and frying pan have warmed up nicely.
I throw one thing onto the pan.
Vanisoi seed, those boars' favorite.
...And we took on this commission to cultivate this. I did left enough for that though.
Apparently these boars love the scent of raw vanisoi, but fry it and their obsession gets elevated into a whole new level.
According to Menu, their thought process becomes dominated with 'Gotta eat them' to the point it's virtually impossible for them to resist the temptation. Sure makes them sound like some junkies.

Vanilla aroma begins spreading throughout the village. Those boars have good noses, they should notice soon.
Mana Detection tells me some Rush Boars are getting closer. Ten o'clock from me.

"They're coming from that direction, take up your position."

"Got it."

I told Alma where to expect the boars and to intercept them.
We're trying to kill one with every hit. The main course hasn't come yet.

Alma shot a Stone Bullet (Powered Up Ver) the moment she saw one, piercing through its whole body dead.
Umu, one down. Good shot.
She consumed around 20MP per shot. She's gonna run out of fuel if this keeps up but with me transferring my MP every time, it won't get to that point so easily.
I'm nearing level up, so when my MP is about to dry up, I just gotta kill one Rush Boar and replenish my MP full.
I've still got Mana Recovery pills for emergency too, MP should be non issue.
By the way, these pills are the gift I got from material store old lady. I forgot to use them during Stampede. Rasfin would have an easier time had I given some to her. Sorry.

We could have minimized MP consumption if I was in charge of killing these boars but only if I used Pile Bunker in close range.
We gotta keep Rush Boars away from the trap. It's intended for Jet Boar, we'd hit a dead end if some random Rush Boars got to it instead. Thus the prioritizing ranged attacks.
My mana throwing can't accurately hit the heads. There's the risk of a different boar coming for the trap if I'm too busy dealing with one.
On the other hand, Alma's magic is powerful even at a range, so I'm leaving this role to Alma.

About ten minutes after frying the beans.
We've killed more than ten Rush Boars.
These boars kept getting baited here.
Sure enough, my MP was running low midway, and I got my level up by killing two Rush Boars.
So I'm level 16 now. Alma just got hers the other day, still at 17.
Me aside, we gotta keep Alma's MP max at all time. We've still got plenty of room presently, but this plan would be a bust if her MP went to zero before the main course came.
So come on here, you red boar. Or what, are you going for a battle of attrition.

Oops, here it comes. I can tell it's gradually coming closer.
It's so obviously on a different level than other boars. In mana pool and speed.
Has it noticed its underlings getting culled out, and now it's coming to remove the culprit.
It's finally in sight. A little Status Check in order.

Magic Beast: Jet Boar

Lv26

State: Charmed (Appetite) - Head Trauma (Minor)

HP: 504/557
MP: 170/170
SP: 149/342

Ah, that's not it. This thing's just here for the vanisoi, nothing to do with its underlings. Is that really okay for a herd boss.
Oh, the damage on its head remains huh. I heard it was staggering when it made its escape, turned out the attack worked all right.

"It's here, get ready!"

"Okay...!"

I gave the signal for Alma to climb on a scaffold set up next to the trap.
Then I bring the fry pan with vanisoi with me to right above the trap. I'm floating just above ground so the trap doesn't activate.
Lookie here, it's  your favorite vanisoi. The scent. Raw vanisoi tastes spicy and better. Got none for you though.

『BUGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!』

It's charging my way at incredible speed while roaring loudly. Good, I bid you welcome.

To hell.

BAAAAM! Jet Boar disappeared along with that sound.
AKA it fell down the pitfall we dug out.
It's twice as deep as that thing's height. We went out of our way to dig a super deep hole.
Boars are surprisingly good jumpers. They can easily jump over walls and fences their height.
This thing being a fantasy creature, I'm sure it can jump even higher. It likely can get out of this height without any issue, but this pit isn't intended to lock it up.

It just needs to stop the thing from running away so Alma's magic can hit it.

"Haaaa!"

Alma cast her magic while yelling out.
She produced a giant boulder above the pitfall and dropped it down the Jet Boar.
...I can't believe that's a Stone Bullet. She enlarged the spell to around three times the Jet Boar's size through Mana Control.
A massive rock that demands 200 MP just to create one. It can't be shot forward due to its size, but what supposed to be a failed experiment becomes a terrifyingly powerful spell when the target is situated right below.
Jet Boar has nowhere to run inside the pitfall. It's too late, you won't escape! Get smashed!

ZWUN, the boulder fell down into the pitfall creating a tremor.

"Uu..."

Alma staggered while holding her head.
Looks like she's having a mana shortage. Of course she would after that magic.

The Jet Boar seems to have eaten up that attack directly--

But

Crack crack crack

Cracks ran on the massive boulder.
...Well not like I didn't expect this.
I mean his stat display is still blue.

BAAAANG! The boulder broke into pieces as the Jet Boar jumped out of the pit.
How'd you even survive through that, ugh. Apparently, it combined 'Qigong Shroud' and 'Roaring Rush' to narrowly make it through.
But it's not without a cost. Each of its forelegs and hindlegs have been broken, its rib is damaged and Status tells me it's suffering internal injuries.
And yet it's still got half of its HP left. Far from dead yet.

Now then, can you withstand this move with those wounds?

I threw already burning Firetoad Oil I stored inside Item Screen at its back... around its butt.
Didn't think I could actually store items that are still burning. Wonder if it scorches other items inside?

『Bugwu...!』

It narrowly dodged the flame while vomiting blood.
Moving at such speed even with broken legs and all those wounds. Guess there's no easy way out to defeat this thing.
But how do you deal with this now you just dodged!

BWOSH! I moved in with high speed flight.
Using the momentum, I drive a Pile Bunker in!
And the stake isn't hardened mana, but a mithril blade I borrowed from Alma! How'd you like this!

BAANG! STAB!!

It stiffened for an instant right after dodging and couldn't afford to move or defend against my attack.
The mithril blade stabbed deep into the Jet Boar's head, piercing its brain.

F-finally the end. This thing's seriously tough.
Can't believe its Stats didn't turn red even after that boulder crash.

!?

Wha

『Bufuuuuu....! BUUUUUUUGOOOOOAAAAAAAAAA!!!!』

Unbelievable.
The Jet Boar whose brain should have been stabbed right through roared out loud.
The Stats say it's still got 100 HP left.
Its State displays Brain Laceration, yet it's not dead yet. What the heck, how is it even a living creature at this point! How are you so tough!
I got flung around everywhere as I kept my grip on the sword. Abababa! My eyes are spinning.

Oh man, what now.
How do you even kill this thing.
