Kamisama no Kago wo Kyohishitara?! Chapter 261

261 Circumstance and Prostration

"I got it now. Sorry 'bout that lad, ya even came all this way to look for this old bone."

The old man in front of me is the very picture of a dwarf. Barrel-like build, scraggy beard, as well as shaggy hair. Complete with hoarse voice. A dwarf no matter the angle you look at him, this is dwarf.

"Minya would have nowhere to go if you kicked the bucket, gramps. Don't think it's admirable to worry your grandkid like that either."

"Ya tell me 'bout it, 's all my fault for overlooking that."

Gramps believed me after I told him everything that transpired. Apparently what convinced him was my knowledge about their store's situation including debts.

"Still, I'll be damned knowing this was originally a golem. And yer' tellin' me ya beat it up by yerself? Looks be deceiving I tell ya."

"Eh never mind that. More importantly, I want to ask you a favor gramps, is that okay?"

"Nevermind? Just look at this thing! Ya said that Crystallized Mana thingy got sucked in golem's remains yeah?"

The gramps kept talking excitedly ignoring me. Nothing can stop him.

"By golly. Didja know mithril's originally iron eroded by highly dense mana? Creating even a fragment takes a stupidly unrealistic amount of mana. S'why naturally occurring mithril's highly prized. Ya can live lavishly for five years even just with a fist-sized mithril. And yet this thing here... well damn, just damn. Fumu, it must get absorbed cause the golem was created by the dungeon, its guardian so to say. How'd that work? Can this be mass produced? Hmmm?"
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
Those blue stripe lines running across the golem's body must have been some sort of 'Circuits'. I'm guessing the golem readily took in the Crystallized Mana because it was created by the crystal itself.
Which means this golem was a grade above Rock Golem, an Iron Golem.
You can infer that much from what the gramps said about iron turning into mithril.
Had it been a Rock Golem, that vibration wave would have pulverized the golem itself.
But none of that matters now, so I call out to gramps who's still rambling.

"Let's get outta this place. Now that this happened, you can't be sure this mine would hold up. Heck, the whole cave might come crashing down on us anytime. Let's go."

"Hold up, lad! This mithril is yers! However, I gotta have it! Will ya hand it over!? Just a handful will do! Just enough to smith a sword! Call me shameless, a disgrace! But I need cash to protect those important to me! I'mma follow yer' every whim for as long as I live! So please will ya!?"

The gramps threw his pickaxe before he started prostrating.

"Aah? Sure thing. It's all yours provided you're willing to do me a favor."

"I beg of ya! ...Eh? ...All mine?"

The prostrating gramps looked up with unfocused eyes at me.
I paid him no heed as I put my magic bag near the lump of mithril and got it inside.

"Oy, gramps. We'll talk later, first we gotta get out. Nothing else to do here. Come on, move it."

Thus, I retraced my way back in accordance to my memo, toward the end of this adventure.

260 Things Found

After advancing through a narrow path for maybe about ten meters, I came across a small room the size of 4.5 tatami mats.
Along with a fist-sized Crystallized Mana floating in the center of the room.

"Now just gotta smash this... No, bad idea doing that here. I should wait until I'm out first."

I took the Crystallized Mana and tried to put it into my magic bag, but it wouldn't go in.
It made this 'Pon' sound as the two objects repelled one another.

(No idea how the heck this even works. Welp, guess I'll just carry it with me.)

Smashing the crystal here would likely stop the dungeon-fication and turn this place back into a normal mine.
Monsters would also stop spawning.
But the more pressing issue is the risk of 'cave in' and 'collapse' if I break it here.
I don't think that's gonna happen for as long as this place is supplied with mana, but there's no telling what's gonna hapeen if that mana supply is halted.
It's safer to smash the crystal outside. Such was my reasoning for storing the Crystallized Mana inside my magic bag, but that attempt didn't go well.

With the crystal in hand, I went back to the previous golem room.
Afraid of the possibility the golem coming back to life, I approached the huge rock's remains for a final check.
But the instant I got close, the Crystallized Mana started emitting light, dyeing the surroundings blue.

"Oh crap! Did something get switched on!? Is it gonna explode?! Oh crap!?"

I stepped back and steeled myself for the golem revival while being fed up of this dungeon thinking I had cleared it already.
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
But that never happened. The Crystallized Mana floated away from my hand on its own and got sucked into what seemed to be the center of the golem rock.
Then the rock started pulsing blue before the light eventually subsided, ending with the rock's color turning emerald green.
The rock is the size of an adult's armful. It's changed color in its entirety.

"...What was that all about? Pretty sure it's something incredible, but I've absolutely no clue what even is this thing..."

I stood still trying to figure out what the phenomenon was when I realized somebody had entered the room.

"Oy! What're ya doing here? I reckon this place's been turned into a dungeon. Ya better get outta here fast."

I almost blurted back, 'No who are you?', but stopped short.
I mean the only other person that could be here is that gramps I've been looking for.
I pondered how to reply to him before deciding to just speak the truth.

"I've been looking all over for you, gramps, got commissioned by your grandkid. Good to see you're safe and sound."

That was all there is to it, yet the gramps seemed to find it hard to swallow as he stood still with a dumbfounded look.
But that was only for about ten seconds. He yelled out loud when he noticed the big rock by my legs.

"Oy! What in the world is that!? I ain't never seen such a pure mithril ore in my life before! And would ya look at the size of that thing!? How'd ya get that, lad!?"

Unsure how to answer that, though it'd take time I opted to tell gramps everything that transpired starting from the time Minya was pleading for help to look for him.

259 Lax On Off

BOOM! The rock burst open with that loud sound. My fist had blown away the flying rock.
I flapped my hand to check if it was hurt anywhere.

"Haa haa haa... Dammit... Completely lost my jet there."

I've already checked the extent of my strength on my way here.
This body is capable of exerting an unbelievable amount of power. Matched by sturdiness that can withstand such output.
If not for that, this body would have popped open the moment I tried to utilize that incredible strength.

After finally recalling that, a question came up in my head.

(But then why did that rolling boulder fragment hurt me? Is it an issue with my awareness, on/off thing?)

I pushed that small yet likely important question to the recess of my mind and looked at the golem which had taken a crouching start-like stance, seemingly ready to launch itself at me.
The blue stripe lines on its whole body are pulsing like screaming, 'I'm amassing power here'.

(It's gonna do something for sure. Wonder what?)

This is one of my bad habit. Wait and see. I could have easily ended it here and then with one stroke of my blade, but now that I had regained my composure, I got curious on the golem's next action.

The golem slowly stood up and spread both its arms wide, and then from what seemed to be its face part, a large cavity slid open.

"GOWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

The golem unleashed a tremendous impact along with that thunderous roar. The vibrating wave hit the surrounding area and rushed in on me while pulverizing stones along the way.

"Destructive vibrating wave!? This could get ugly!"

I immediately regretted my laxness and entered Accelerated state. The wave stopped right in front of my nose.
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
(That was close... Gotta get in gear. Otherwise it's my life at risk... How could I forget something so basic...)

I noticed how lacking my sense of crisis was due to hosting this power.
As I strongly reflected on that, I javelin threw my sword aiming for the golem's mouth.
Under Acceleration, objects that leave my hand stop dead in their tracks and only start moving after I undo the state.
I took a distance away from the vibrating wave before that.

BOOM! That was the sound of my sword penetrating through the golem and going deep into the wall behind it.
The golem's head was already lost by the time that sound could be heard. It must have been utterly pulverized into dust.
The golem fell on its knees before slowly falling down entirely.
After a loud thud, the golem stopped moving altogether.

"...Did that take care of it? Those blue stripes aren't pulsing anymore and all. It's over huh..."

I realized how tense I was here. After all, I just came out of a head-on clash with something 'dangerous'.
The first time the idea of being peerless with this power by my side has been challenged.
You can have the strongest power in the world but a single strike could still prove fatal if it hit the right spot.

"Now then, time to find out what's hiding in the back."

After defeating the golem here, I had completely forgotten about the gramps as I moved my legs deeper inside.

258 Weakness of Heart

It was the golem that spawned in the first dome I came into here. I waited for a bit but didn't see any other monster spawning.

"...It's not, the same is it. I mean it's pulsing blue and all. Pretty obvious."

So there it was the golem in all its glory but it wasn't budging at all. I kept observing it as the blue pulse gradually turned into blue strip lines all over its body.

"Hmmm, this must be... that right?"

The golem started moving in my direction right after.
It stopped in front of me and did the same old knuckle hammer move in an attempt to crush me.
I dodged that by leaping backward of course.

(The same pattern huh... boring. Let's get this over and done with.)

I drew my sword as I thought that, but something wasn't right. I was planning to counter the golem's tackle in Acceleration state yet it wouldn't come at me.
To begin with, this golem isn't even the same golem as before.
Thinking that it was weird for it to not proceed into the tackle move set was a mistake to begin with.

This place is most likely a boss room. So of course this golem can't be the same as previous golem.
The golem slowly stood back to initial stance and soccer ball kick-ed at me.

"Uwoo!? The hell this thing's trying pull?"
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
It's like how you kick pebbles on the ground. It must have been traced from people working in this mine as well.
I couldn't afford to ruminate that at the time as I took several steps back away from the golem. Panicking because the golem didn't share the same pattern.
But that was another bad move. The golem went closing in with a tackle.

Losing my cool yet again, I forgot to use my power and leaped to the side instead.
This body hosts incredible strength thus I likely could have stopped this attack even without Acceleration, but my mind couldn't think straight at this time, even after so many 'adventures' in this world.
The resolve I had before entering this room came to waste.
For once, I simply lacked the experience in this kind of fight.

My mind set was that of playing a game. Resulting in panic when things even slightly went off course.
Must be proof of me still not accepting this reality. Representing that was how I retreated about ten meters away from the golem.

"Lost it there... Gotta take a breath. Calm down me..."

Just as I started to regain my footing, the golem made its next move.
Its hands are holding a huge rock. Already in motion to throw it.

"Time out! Time out! Time out!"

The huge rock was already flying toward me by that point.

"Uwoooooooo!"

I wouldn't have forgotten to use 'Acceleration' if I were of sound mind. But I was feeling helpless by the fact that I was alone here which had a not insignificant impact on my mental.
Guessing that must be why? I kept flailing my fists around at the flying rock in total disarray.

257 Gotta Do Away with Negligence and Opening

"Hmm, this is definitely a boss room. The heck. Getting here without a single mistake in the path finding and all in one go, what are you telling me to do here?"

This door is proof that this dungeon has gone through a considerable 'growth'.
Of course. There's no way a formerly underground mine-based dungeon could create this massively thick iron door just like that.
Must have taken many years before it got to this point. However, I am incapable of deciphering the how or why.
There's even a quintessential looking 'Safe Zone' in the form of a blue light circle floating above ground right in front of this door.

"Eeh? Even something like this... Makes you get all the more suspicious instead. What's this anyway? A save point?"

Fantasy this world may be, it's still a reality. Dying would mean that's it folk.
I dunno what's the deal with this blue light circle, but this ain't no game, I could only sigh at it.

"Might be some sorta trap. Better not carelessly step inside."

What's gonna happen if you get inside? Will you get warped somewhere, fall into a pitfall or perhaps you'd get trapped inside forever.
Quite paradoxical how this thing looks familiar to me despite never seeing one in person before.
Games and reality are all mixed up in my head.

(The knowledge I have is all from games, not this world's system or rules. Then I'd better not carelessly touch this thing out of curiosity.)

I decided not to get close to the blue light and touched the double folded door with my hand.
I didn't put any strength into pushing yet the door smoothly and quietly opened up on both sides like it was sliding.

A chill ran down my spine. But I steeled and calmed myself.

"Whatever happens, I've got to enter Acceleration first. And only undo it once I've pulled myself together."

I said out loud to remind myself. However, the inside had the same layout as the first dome I went in earlier. I looked around a bit but I couldn't find anything of note.
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
(What a let down... No, wait. There's gotta be something here. It'd be a problem if there weren't. Uh, or not I guess.)

Getting lax invites conceit. Which would bring about an opening and then shock. Shock means no sound mind. Which would result in me running away without using my power again.
I stepped inside while bracing myself. Of course I never noticed the option of not going in.
This could have been postponed until after I found the gramps. Also the fact that there are other blacksmiths aside from the gramps.
My mind was too preoccupied to think that and ended up getting myself in another battle.

Yep, there's no way there was nothing here. I was right. This is the room where the guardian monster that protects Mana Crystallization, this dungeon's creator, resides.
I didn't forget about that fact, yet I absentmindedly walked up to the center of the dome.
That served as some sort of signal as the door behind me flung closed with a shrill sound.

"Ah, a cliche direction. I get it, yeah. Which means next up is where it shows up in a blaze of glory. The boss here I mean. I so get it."

A strong tremor you could mistake for a quake hit the room before I could finish speaking.
A circle of blue light came up of the ground followed by a familiar looking giant figure inside.

256 Weakness

The damage the golem took was seemingly enough to cause its rock body crumble down.
Each of the falling rocks made quite an impact as it fell down the ground due to their size.
They emitted blue particles of lights all the while before the golem eventually stopped moving altogether.

"...That did it? It's not moving anymore... Well whatever, time to resume my search for the gramps."

As I kept an eye on the golem remains, I looked around the dome shaped room for an exit.
Found it in the deepest part.

"Welp let's press on ahead. Wonder what's gonna come out next..."

I was being overconfident in my power. Beliving I can extinguish most sparks with it.
That assessment wasn't wrong. However, I found out the problem lies on me this time.
I got scared of the skeleton army I forgot about my 'power' and ran away screaming.
This peerless power has weakness in my mental.
And yet it's also been made clear that my body hosts an abnormal strength in its normal state outside Acceleration.

(Gotta get familiar with it, or else it's gonna bring trouble in the future... I should make an effort to hide this from other people.)

Thus far, not many people know about me. As such, it's probably okay to keep my current approach.
The bigger problem is how unusually high the frequency of events I've been running into. That fact makes future prospect suspicious.

(Man when was the last time I could truly relax since I got driven out of my village...)

As I indulge myself in melancholy, a huge round boulder that barely fits the passage it's in is rolling my way up ahead.

"Indiana J*on*s?! Oh crap oh crap!"

Just like that time with skeletons, the sheer pressure of this incoming rolling boulder made my body reflexively tried to run.
My body moved on its own when the image of getting ran over flashed in my mind.

However, 'Ununununu!', I groaned and mustered my mental to root myself in place.
I got in Accelerated state and slice and dice the approaching boulder with my sword.

I undid Acceleration once I deemed it was enough.
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
The boulder instantly crumbled down into smaller fragments. I was relieved to see that.
But one of the fragments rode its momentum and kept flying in my direction, hitting my forehead.

"Oowww! Dammit, are you for real! ...How do you even deal with that... Do I gotta stay on guard around the clock or what? I ain't gonna last..."

This was the first time I felt pain, who could've thought it would be due to an accident.
Can't stop here though. Can't find the gramps if I don't keep trucking on.

"Will I even find this old man? Besides the chance of him surviving is slim... Like, he could've got himself sandwiched between bedrocks or something?"

The scale of that tremor from the time this dungeon's entrance manifested above ground was quite something. I mean the hut we were staying on is located far from this mine.
Goes to show how big the scale of changing terrain.

"Don't mean I could just turn back now though. Gotta find his body at least."

As I kept muttering alone wondering when would this end, I had gone through many fork roads and cut down all the skeletons blocking my way.
Frankly speaking, the gramps still being alive would feel like a plot convenient setup here. But him being dead would at least put a closure to this whole thing.
After all, this gramps isn't the only blacksmiths around. I know that there's a lot of them in the capital.
There's no need to be fixated on him for the katana, which is why I don't really feel that pressured about this search.

I kept passing through forks as I relaxed myself. While never letting up with the memo.
Don't wanna get lost on my way back. Gotta be thorough on that note.

(Getting lost would be the end of me even with this power.)

External danger isn't a problem with this power.
But danger that comes internally, aka me could likely kill me.
Starvation for once. If I lose my way in a dungeon where do I procure food?
The monsters spawning in this dungeon disappear into particles of light when killed, you can't eat them.
The biggest danger that could befall me and result in my death here is 'not being able to get out'.
Naturally, I take great care in preventing that.
My situation would turn ugly if this dungeon is a randomly changing dungeon like in 'Toru-neko Mysterious Dungeon'.
But that doesn't seem to be the case from what I've seen so far, I have no reason to halt this search.

Thus I kept going forward. Despite my complex mental state, my mind weirdly turned childlike as the excitement got me and then I found myself in front of a massive door.

255 Pattern

In the first place, monsters that spawn in dungeons are modeled after information contained in Mana Crystallization, manifested with mana.
Then you could say that those skeletons and their unusual number have been 'accumulating' for some time.
The process must have begun long before the dungeon entrance emerged outside. Quite a long while ago.

(Been for at least half a year ago surely? The dungeon had already existed back then, but it never connected to the mine by pure chance, until today.)

You can't blame me questioning how the hell that happened right after we got here.
The Mana Crystallization must have used skeletons of people working in the mine as the base of monsters it produced, that idea crept me out.

(Guess it's still better than zombies. I'm not really a fan of Bio H*z*rd.)
<TLN: Resident Evil's title in Japan.)

I don't really like House of the D*ad either. With that thought running in my head, I put my hands on the huge boulder in the middle of the room while being careful.

(This rock's unusually smooth... Oh, it's cool to the touch, nice.)

That was the end of my carefree thought.
Many rocks suddenly floated out of the walls nearby and flew in my direction.

"Uooooooooo?!"

I let out a weird scream in surprise. However, none of the rocks hit me.
I dodged them all under Acceleration. But those rocks kept crashing into the boulder causing incredible impacts.
Yet they didn't break, instead they combined together into a single big rugged boulder.

"What is this, a mail spirit!? Wait no, this must be another classic huh!?"

Yep, this lump of rocks began moving with a loud noise, into a humanoid shape.
Until it finally turned into the classic 'Golem'.

"Ooh! Yet another fantasy! I guess this is what you call a Rock Golem? This thing's huuge."

I look up, it should be around three meter tall?
The Mana Crystallization must have used 'Human' information to form rocks into this shape. Quite an awe-inspiring sight.
My tension is getting weird after going through this chain of fantasy.
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
"Wait wait, what do I do now? Have fun? Or do I gotta take it down?"

I had never measured the limit of my body before, so I decided to use this golem as a test subject.
I could have instantly turned it into dust with Acceleration, yet I chose to take my time here.

Irrespective of my thought, the golem raised both its arms high and swung them down at me.
The impact that attack produced felt like the end of the world as it caused a tremor in the whole room.
However, I didn't even need Acceleration to dodge such an obviously large swing. The golem took so long with a huge motion to finish its move. A simple leap backward was enough to avoid it.

However, that wasn't the end of it, the golem immediately moved on to a tackle from its end posture.

(Guess I better Accelerate seeing how wide that thing is. The pressure feels like even a graze would blow me away.)

Afterward I went around the unmoving Golem. With Acceleration, even a huge enemy like this is no big deal.

I dunno whether the golem lost sight of me or not, it went on and plunged itself into the wall, producing a loud booming sound.
The wall cracked like a small meteorite had just collided with it.
Yet the golem itself looked flawless.

"That's a golem for you, gotta be sturdy huh. Now then, what's the next pattern gonna be?"

I wait for the golem's next move like I'm playing a game.
But it slowly walked up to me and made another knuckle hammer attack.
Then another tackle when I dodged it.

(Don't tell me its move set is also traced from the people working here?)

The movement of people pick axing the wall. And people moving dug out soil in a trolley. Just two.
What a disappointment.

(I loved researching CPU move sets in fighting games... But this thing's only got two huh. A pity.)

I walked up to the golem, grabbed its legs and dragged it out of the wall.
Then from there, I wanted to test how strong I am and how much power do I need to hammer throw this golem as I gradually put more strength into it.

But there was no need for any test, I managed to do it right away and so easily. A sombering fact.

As I spun the golem round and round, so was my brain.

(Not only could I easily swing around this heavy mass of rocks, I didn't even break a sweat!? All this monstrous strength and I could control it so well to the point I never have any issue in daily life, how weird is that!?)

And nothing ever goes as I want to while under Acceleration. It's absurd that the 'ordinary' state me actually has a 'monstrous' strength I can control well.
Well, my life would have been a complete disaster if not for that. I guess I should be thankful.

Once I got enough momentum, I threw the golem away in a random direction.
That must have unleashed more energy than the golem's tackle. The golem sunk deep into the wall up to its shoulder.
The sound of the crash was so loud I was afraid the entire cave would collapse.
