Quiet arena, quiet audience. Looks like the type of spectators who go here are wholly unlike other categories.
"Jido vs Cora. Begin!"
The announcer made it brief. I was sure it was gonna turn into a flashy magic shootout right away but the two gladiators aren't moving.
I was the only one who had that expectation it seemed.
Upon a closer inspection, their mouths are moving slightly. This is probably.
(Spellcasting... I think? But, it's so long...? Huh, that's not it, they're canceling their spells midway? But then they quickly began reciting the next one?)
Looks like it's some sort of high level push and pull amateur eyes can't perceive.
As I was waiting with bated breath, the challenger Cora was the first to make his move.
"O great flame! Turn into exploding fire, erase my enemy!"
A baseball sized fire ball shot out of his wand. It's not moving that fast.
I was laughing a bit in my mind looking at such a small magic after that grandstanding.
But that was a mistake. The Ultimate Mage, Jido countered with a water spell.
"Wavering still water, soothe this savage force."
Jido shot out another baseball sized water ball.
I wasn't prepared at all for the collision between two spells.
Tricked by the quiet arena, I had no idea about the fact that this coliseum was the most 'dangerous'.
My view turned into pure white before changing into rapid flashes of orange. Then came an explosion sound.
A phenomenon caused by two powerful magic offsetting each other.
Both the fire and water balls weren't about size. What's important is the amount and density of mana put in them. I only found out about it later.
(Ow my ears! Dammit! Are you for real! I should've known! Just how powerful Mary's spells were! The explosion back then was nothing compared to this!)
I recalled that time I acted together with an adventurer party to conquer a dungeon.
Kyaro mentioned it too. That Jido's magic rivals Spirit Magic.
I saw how powerful Spirit Magic is many times before yet it completely slipped my mind.
(How dumb am I. Dangit, my ears are ringing, gonna be useless for a while...)
It was like a stun grenade. An explosion that used light and sound to stun.
I took that head on without any preparation. The ring may be way over there, but the effect still got to me all the way here.
Yet, the two gladiators stay rooted in their spots even after this.
My hearing recovered in the meantime. And once it was completely back to normal, Jido shot his magic.
"Cut space apart, O lightning, surge."
A crackling bluish white electric current came out of Jido's fingertip before turning into a 30cm big light that zoomed at his opponent in no time.
A trail of white remained in the space. Leaving a thunderous sound of the air getting torn asunder.
But the challenger, Cora seemed to have anticipated this attack as a transparent wall blocked the lightning in front of him.
The clash made crackling sounds echo in the entire arena.
Once Jido's magic vanished, Cora immediately counter attacked with a spell.
"Flatten! Freeze any and all!"
A two meter big lump of ice showed up out of nowhere floating above him after he recited that spell.
