590 Mage Image
The VIP area is nothing particularly special. Only that it's got walls all around creating a private space.
Though it does lessen the mental burden of having to jampack myself with other spectators.
Balga's build would be quite an annoyance there. The champion sitting among general audience would cause a bigger stir though.
"Alright. I haven't seen grandpa's match in a while. There's been a lot of matches for each coliseum champions lately."
"Nobody challenged Jidoro for a long time after all. Can't recall the last time. I'm getting pumped."
"Perhaps the challenger has a plan to overcome that person's magic? I cannot imagine him taking up this challenge if he did not have one."
Like usual, the three are chatting without my involvement. I don't really mind though.
(I've got zero information about these topics after all. Just gotta focus on enjoying the show.)
Thus I waited quietly. About five minutes later, the challenger walked into the ring.
"The first to take the ring is our promising mage, Cora! He has shown overwhelming magic prowess again and again in all his matches! Will his magic prevail over the 'Ultimate Mage'?"
The announcer introduced the challenger. Yet nobody cheered, not even one person.
The audience just stare at the challenger in silence.
(The mood is the complete opposite... What is this even...)
The reaction which is nothing like other arenas left me confused.
"At the opposite side, enter the champion of magic coliseum! 'Ultimate Mage'! Jido! Is he appraising his challenger? He's staring dagger at him!"
An old man with a straight posture with a long white beard, the perfect picture of a wizard, is there. He's got silver shoulder-length wavy hair.
His face is full of wrinkles showing his age, with stern looking sharp eyes.
He's wearing a full body gray robe. He's got a two meter long staff on his hand.

(Hmm? That's not a wand? But guess that's nothing weird? But it looks a bit too long.)
The challenger has a short wand with a blue gem embedded on the tip.
You'd think of wands when you think about magic casters which the challenger brought with him.
The challenger has all back hair wearing clothes engraved with unfamiliar complex patterns. His blue mantle swayed as he glared at the magic champion. Guy looks like the serious type.
The champion, Jido himself showed no reaction as he stared back.
Upon a closer inspection though, I see he's wearing a silver ring each on his left index finger, and right ring finger.
(...They're not... ornaments are they? Is it those things you often find in these work?)
Fantasy stuff like mana boosters or catalysts that replace wands.
Those rings must be of that sort. You free both your hands if you use those instead of wands after all.
(But then what's that staff for?)
It doesn't look like a wand. I'm sure it's got a use though.
(He can't be using that to attack in melee range, can he?)
The image of mages would be overturned at its root if so.
"...Is Jidoro for real?"
Balga murmured.
