Kamisama no Kago wo Kyohishitara?! Chapter 289

289 Forest

'Meo~w', the first thing we heard on floor three was Chimera's.

White Fang party's alertness level turned up to eleven as they took a stance with their weapons and formed up at once.
Danku vanguard, Kidd next to him, Mary and Firuna behind them, and then Melgis guarding the rear.

"Aah, lower your weapons guys. Nevermind that. Nevermind."

I told them to relax. They did lower their weapons but their eyes were still darting all over the place.
Can't blame them. We stand before a mysterious sprawling forest here on this floor. There's even a blue sky above.

I was way more surprised by this place than Chimera's sudden cry.

"A being that can create such a vast area on floor three... This dungeon has a master that's for sure..."

Kidd muttered. I somehow got the meaning of 'master' there but not the principle behind this forest's existence.
Thus I asked.

"Why does a space that can't be further from the definition of 'underground' like this exist in dungeons?"

From their brief explanation, it's apparently due to the size of the dungeon core, the crystallized mana, and the 'master' producing it.

"Dungeon monsters are born from the core. In the same vein, reproducing 'information' contained within the core is within the realm of possibility~. The degree of this reproduction depends on the floor 'depths' and whether a master is around or not~. This dungeon must be super old if floor three is this huge, you know?"

Mary gave that explanation. Which means all of this is produced by mana.
However, the feelings of stepping on the soil, the sounds of branches swayed by the wind and the warmth of sunlight shining down the blue sky.
Every single one of those feels so real, I find it hard to believe it's all mana.

"So tell me. All of this is going to disappear once the core gets taken out? Like an illusion they are?"
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
I took a deep breath. Shocked by how fresh the air felt.

"Indeed. Even this tranquil forest is composed of mana from the core. Therefore, as much as it is a shame..."

"Monsters lurk in this forest. There's a danger of them multiplying and overflowing out of the dungeon to the world outside, we hafta crush that chance from ever taking place."

Firuna and Melgis replied.
Danku asked me here with a reasonable question.

"What was that cry earlier anyway? You said 'Nevermind', you must know something, don't you?"

Their lines of sight gathered on me. All due to Chimera letting out that meow when we arrived on floor three.
Guess I'm obliged to explain. The Chimera in question is long gone though.

"Ah, that's well, how do I put it, a companion, or maybe more like a pet... I'm not gonna ask you to stop thinking about it, just don't attack the thing. It's not dangerous."

They looked like they didn't even get what I was trying to convey, but that's the best I could say to them right now.
Because Chimera had rushed headlong into the forest.
I was the only one who caught sight of Chimera undoing its optical camouflage for a moment when we got here.
It then meowed and ran off right after, leaving me no time to stop it.

(I was more shocked by the fact Chimera followed us all the way into this dungeon.)

I dunno what was in the forest that got it so excited. It ran off so fast and immediately reactivated its optical camouflage, it was too late by the time I noticed.

The White Fang members had a 'what was that about?' look on their faces before we resumed our march into the forest, still high on alert.

Stampede (3) ~Aim For the Vital!~

The evolved Werewolf looked around.
Glaring at the adventurers nearby, ready to pounce at anytime.

"O-oy! That thing's gone and evolved!"

"That's a Werewolf! A powerful magic beast that's level 20 at least!"

The adventurers look shaken.
Can't blame them, we were on the cusp of victory when the enemy powered up.

『AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!』

The Werewolf howled.
All the nearby magic beasts had the glints in their eyes changed afterward.
It's like a mix of anger, fluster and even a tinge of sorrow like they're now compelled to fight till death.

<<Magic Beast Skill Lv3 Ability 'Berserk Howling': forcefully applies 'Berserk' state to magic beasts below Lv9 in the area. Under Berserk state, they will continue to attack until they're dead or broken off the state regardless of damage they received.>>

The magic beasts here have been strengthened, no, driven mad.
So this is the reason it evolved.

This is bad.
Even though their number has been curtailed to about equal ours, the people on our side are mostly worn down, many with little MP left.
The rear archers and mages seem to be as bad condition-wise.
We might be able to keep the pressure on them had we maintained our momentum, but the tide is turning on the magic beasts' side.

If only we could take out that Werewolf at least...
Oh?

"Low level folk, fall back! We're gonna do something about that Werewolf!"

"Take care of the mob for us!"

A young spearsman called Baredray and a twinblade woman his age, Rasfin went to face off against the Werewolf.
They're both 18 year old, at level 20. Top class adventurers among the ones here.
These two are quite worn down as well. A natural outcome since they've been dealing with magic beasts over level 10 besides the ones I defeated.
It should've been the time for them to withdraw and take a break, they sure are gutsy.

Other adventurers bravely stood their ground against the rest of magic beasts following that order, but they're having a hard time against the unflinching magic beasts' assault.
More and more people are getting injured. Seems like they don't have the leeway to drink recovery potions.

Now then, what do I do here.
I'm still peppy after having just leveled up. One of the only few people here who had also leveled up in the middle of battle.
There's gonna be more victims if I remain a spectator.
I'm not full of myself enough to think that I'm the key to victory in this battle, yet I can't just watch idly. What do, what do.

I can't use the falling rock tactic anymore.
Now that there's not too many magic beasts left, they're pretty much all mixed up with adventurers fighting them below, so there's a danger of friendly fire.

Should I go down and fight?
But frankly, I dunno if my stats can even afford me defeating the weakest goblin.
Though well, I kinda get that the rule is different in my case and stats aren't everything.

The spearsman and twinblade are getting slower.
They're barely holding on by coordinating together, but they likely won't last much longer.

Whoa, watch out. Werewolf swiftly closed in on the spearsman.

"Wha, fast."

『GWUGAAAAAAAAA!』

It hurled itself on the spearsman, blowing him away.
Oy oy, that one hit alone took out 40% of his HP.

"Gaha!"

"Bared! Damn you monster!"

The spearsman, Bared got knocked out from that attack.
Thankfully he's still alive, but the Werewolf is gonna kill him at this rate.
The twinblade, Rasfin faced off against the Werewolf, but fighting that thing alone while protecting Bared will be tough.

Fwosh

I flew at high speed to where the two were.

"Y-you're!"

"I'll carry Bared back to base. I leave the Werewolf in your hand. Try to stay alive."

"...I got it. Take care of Bared."

Rasfin's whole body got clad in a dim light after she said that.
Another skill huh.

<<Martial Art Skill Lv4 Ability 'Ki Clad': Raise attributes by consuming SP.>>

So there are skills that consume SP instead of MP huh.
'Why didn't she use that earlier' that thought flashed on my mind, but then I realized she's running out of both MP and SP.

"I can't keep this up for long in my current state. I'm gonna take it down before that."

I think she was planning to wait using that until other adventurers were done dealing with other magic beasts and came to help, but it would be all over for Bared if she held back now.
Hence this do or die strategy, but...
The Werewolf's also got Martial Art Lv4 as its Skill.

"Oy, that thing's using it too."

"Wha...!?"

The Werewolf's body is clad in the same faint light.
Its response to Rasfin's action. And now the gap has been closed up.
Can't be helped.

"Use this."

I threw the Ring to Rasfin.

"Hm, what's this?"

"Ring of Mana Storage. Better than nothing. Guildmast lent that to me, give it back to him later."

"...My thanks, I'll make good use of it."

She put that ring on her right middle finger which is enough to apply the MP restoration effect.

『Gurua!!』

Right afterward, the Werewolf hurled at Rasfin, the same attack he used on Bared.
But,

『Gyagi!?』

Rasfin took a stance with her swords and blades of lights manifested on the tips.
She attacked with the lengthened twin blades, grazing the Werewolf.

<<Twinblade Skill Lv3 Ability 'Twin Mana Blade Extend': Consuming MP to produce blades of mana on the blade tips, expanding the reach.>>

"Tch, missed huh... What's wrong, you sounded panicked there. Never seen your own blood before? A mere beast acting like you lived a sheltered life. Who do you think you are, huh?"

『Guruaaaaaaaaaa!!』

The Werewolf probably didn't get what she was saying but it could tell that she was disparaging it as it howled angrily.
Similar blades of mana got produced on the Werewolf's claws.

<<Claw Skill Lv3 Ability 'Mana Claw Extend': Consuming MP in the shape of claws to increase reach.>>

Even Skills got templates huh.
It's just gonna get stronger the more you provoke the thing, is she gonna be all right?

"What're you spacing out for! Get Bared to a safe zone, stat!"

Ah, my bad. Well, I'm sure she'd survive looking at that. Probably.
Welp, guess I'm carrying Bared all the way back to the gate. Heave ho.
Guh, didn't think a heavily armed man to weigh so much.

Bwosh

I carried Bared to behind the gate.
Looking at his state, he's not gonna die, but his State says his ribs are cracked.
...Hope my flight didn't worsen it.

Wonder if recovery potion even works on bone fractures.

<<It depends on the potion's efficacy and severity of the wounds, however the potions you have on hand are able to heal slightly cracked bones. It requires dozens of minutes to complete.>>

Looks like he won't be back to the fray even with a potion.
But well, sure I'll throw him a potion. I've still got a lot on me cause I never used one anyway.
Ah, he's passed out, can't drink.
Then I'll just wrap the potion in my mana and control it. I move it in his mouth and then down the throat.
I know I'm the one controlling and all but it looks like some sort of slime invading inside someone's body, it's scary. Gross even.

"Cough! Gah!"

Ah, it got clogged up. Think a bit got in bronchial tube? My bad.
But he came to thanks to that.

"Cough... Ah? When'd I fall asleep?"

"You passed out from the Werewolf's ramming attack. I got you to drink a potion, but you've got a cracked rib, stay down for now."

"Ah, did I... Wait, what about Rasfi?"

"She's still out there fighting the Werewolf."

"Wha, that's bad! That monster ain't something you fight alone! I gotta go help her... Guaaa!?"

He stood up and crouched down right away while pining his chest from the pain.

"You're just gonna get in her way in your condition. Just get some rest."

"No, way, I'm going..! Rasfin's gonna die...! I can at least act as her shield!"

Man's gutsy, I give him that. Respect.

"Say Rasfin is injured and spouts the same thing you did, what're you gonna do?"

"'Course I'm gonna stop her! What else!"

"And you think you can fight by her side while she's busy telling you off? You're only gonna distract Rasfin if you go back now. Heck, she's gonna risk herself protecting you for sure."

"T-that's..."

"Get some rest if you get it. It's fine, I'm not letting her die on my watch."

Ah, there I go again making sermon and even promising the heavens.
But he's definitely going back even if it means crawling there if I don't say this, just gotta bear with this embarrassing line.

"...Please save Rasfi."

"I got you."
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >

I flew back to the battlefield afterward. Ah man, so much to do.

I saw Werewolf still fighting Rasfin.

Looking at its stats, it hasn't taken much damage.
It's still got plenty of MP and SP left too.

Rasfin is not suffering from a grave wound either, but you can see injuries from claws and stuff on her.
She's probably taking a defensive approach of avoiding fatal damage while wearing down the Werewolf, but at the rate it's going, she's gonna go down first.

Aah man. I've got no choice but to help her, not after Bared asked with that face.
Guess I should try ramming the Werewolf at high speed from a blind spot?

While I was thinking that, the Werewolf took a new set of actions.

"Guaaa!?"

"Wha!? Y-you bastard!"

It pretended to swing down its claw at Rasfin and hit another adventurer instead.
Then it kept going after other adventurers.

"Gyaaa!!"

"O-ooooww! It hurts!"

"W-why's it coming here! Waaaaa!!"

...That shitty bastard shifted its target to adventurers that were busy dealing with other magic beasts.

"You damn fiend! Stoop!"

The enraged Rasfin went slashing at the Werewolf while yelling out.
...Watch out!

『Guruaaaa!』

"Hiiie! H-help me!"

"Kuh!? How low will you go!"

The Werewolf grabbed a dagger wielding boy and hung him ahead to act as a shield against Rasfin.
Rasfin stopped moving, leaving an opportunity for it to swing down its claw at her.
She's gonna get killed! Damn, make it in time!

As I was gonna fly in between them and stop the attack.

GOSU!!

I heard a familiar sound.
The same sound I heard when I was getting attacked by goblins in the magic beast forest back then.

Alma has just kicked the exposed vital point (man-only) of the Werewolf from behind.

『GUGYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!?』

It reflexively let go of the boy while screaming out loud and sending drools flying everywhere from the acute pain.
T-that gotta hurt! I can feel the pain just from watching!

Alma-san, good job and all, but that kinda attack in that kinda serious battle is a bit...
Or what? Maybe she thinks kicking the groins is the answer to any and all problems? Just please don't let me be the receiving end. I beg of you.
All the male adventurers and magic beasts who saw that scene turned pale faced while holding their groins. Yup, that's the normal reaction.
Where'd all that tension go. How.

288 Turnaround

"Hey? If we were to believe Melgis, there should be lots and lots of orcs here right?"

"What's going on? Melgis, sure you got it right?"

"I do not see a single orc anywhere... none at all..."

"No way, right? Which is more believable?"

Mary, Danku, Firuna and Kidd spoke one after another. However, it seems they understand that Melgis was telling the truth.
Especially after seeing his face, still twitching even now.
They just can't help being baffled over it since this 'truth' is nowhere to be seen.
I called out to them here.

"Hey, Melgis, mind checking out traps once again. Who can say where a trap lies in a place this big."

"Y-yeah. Okay. I'm on it... but you... how, how did you make that many orcs disappear without a trace..."

I could have ignored his question, but since it's not like he's asking my identity, I comply.

"I blew them all away."

Nobody reacted to this. Won't blame them.
I would have had the exact same reaction if I were in their shoes.

"A-ah. D-did you now. O-okay. Let's keep going. Not a single orc in sight here, e-easy peasy."

Thus Melgis spoke while still twitching.

"Our dungeon expedition has just started. Let's keep our wits with us."

Firuna regained her composure the earliest.

"Well, after seeing your power in the forest, guess this much shouldn't surprise me anymore."
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
Danku attained enlightenment, while Mary.

"And here I was gonna go at it with a boom... Seriously, what's your secret anyway?"

She's still hounding my back. Judging from her speeches thus far, she must be trying to find out what magic I'm using.

(I'm a 'Manaless' with zero mana though. Heck I don't even use magic.)

I swallowed those words. She probably won't get it even if I give that explanation, heck, she'll likely press me more with, 'How, why', making it all the more annoying.

"Doesn't seem there's any trap ahead of us. We can just head straight from here."

Melgis who had pulled himself together before I realized said that before walking off toward the stairway to floor three.
That's some swift recovery. These people really must have gone through a lot. Pretty much a necessity for them, missing a trap because of some emotional turmoil might mean death after all.

"Let us press forward. We are likely due for a tough road ahead considering the abnormal state this dungeon presents itself."

Firuna warned us all. And thus we safely passed through floor two and went into the stairway to floor three.

287 Density

"Oy! Wait wait wait! What the hell was that!?"

Melgis let out a small surprised yelp.
We all paused our march after hearing that. We're currently in the stairway between floor 1 and 2.
Melgis who had gotten on floor 2 ahead of us to scout out the area came back in fluster.

"What's wrong? What did you see? But first, calm down."

Kidd told him. Melgis took a deep breath before talking gibberish.

"There's an entire damn block of meat shield... chokeful in the whole damn area. I counted way more than 100."

"I do not understand what is it you're trying to convey. Please be more specific."

Firuna calmly urged him.

"Ah yeah. I lost myself there. First of all, the kingdom musta put a gag order on this stuff. Otherwise, we would've heard about it."

Danku responded to that, 'What' as he shook his head.

"What do you mean? I still don't see what this is about."

"Bear with me. I'm piecing it together as I speak myself. How many adventurer parties that got in before us?"

"Think there were eight or so~? What about it?"

Mary replied cheerfully without any hint of tension.

"Ah, then why do you think this dungeon only have map for floor one? That's because none of them managed to get past floor two."

"Oy, yeah sure there's only map for the first floor. But isn't that cause none of those parties specialized in map making?"

"No adventurers would be willing to get in this dungeon if the news got out. That's how bad it is."

Melgis resumed as urged by Kidd, but he remained unspecific so I spoke here.

"Just tell us what you found on floor two. I still have no clue what the hell you're going on about."
<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
Melgis answered with an unimaginable situation.

"Orcs are lying in ambush near the entrance. Literally surrounding the entire area around the stairway exit. It's quite a spacious area too. I counted more than 100 orcs just from a glance and there were still more in the back."

All members of White Fang were flabbergasted. I remember Minya telling me how dangerous even a single orc is.
And there's more than 100 here. Despite all that, I didn't feel the slightest bit of danger.

"When pigs don't fly, they're just pigs."

Everybody present here had a 'Wha?' look on their face after I blurted that out.

"I'll get rid of them. Gimme a bit."

It was all getting too much of a pain. I'll end it with Acceleration. Without drawing my katana.
There's no point in getting yourself twisted over a bunch of small fry. Especially when it's a mystery just how deep this dungeon is and how long it's gonna take us to conquer.
We can't waste time here. I just wanna end this 'Event' quick and get back to breathing the air outside.

(The air inside dungeons is kinda suffocating. Let's get this conquering stuff over and done with. And then continue the Kingdom sightseeing tour.)

What came into my view when I went down the stairway matched Melgis's report.

"Walls of pigs as far as eyes can see. Oink oink, ew gross... this place's about as big as... a soccer stadium I guess?"

Due to the shining walls and ceilings found in dungeons, visibility is not an issue. But the sight of meat tightly packed together like this makes me want to vomit.

The orcs started yelling altogether when they saw me...

A moment after, I got in Accelerated state.

(Shut the hell up, I ain't got time to listen to your whimper...)

I unleashed a palm strike on every single orc in front of me. No, it's actually nothing that grand.
I just put my hand on the orc's belly and 'pushed' it.
Pushing all the first orcs in the rows while imagining them getting blown backward to the other orcs behind them.

Once I was done, I undid Acceleration.
The spectacle that then unfolded before me was quite a sight.

"Normally it would have looked like a fireworks of filth I guess? But not this one for sure."

The blown orcs flew backward crashing into the orcs behind them, turning them into blue particles of light.
The orcs I directly touched only flew for a bit before disappearing, but it seemed some sort of shock waves were generated in the process, every orcs in the vicinity behind them also died off into particles.
And thus all the orcs ceased into being in a domino-like effect.

Kamisama no Kago wo Kyohishitara?! Chapter 286

286 Floor One

The first floor is a spacious cave, we're making our way inside smoothly.
Thanks to preceding adventurer parties taking care of the monsters already.

"The map says we should head right here. No hostile sighted ahead. I don't see any trap either on this floor. Let's press on."

Melgis led the way while consulting on a map he'd bought beforehand.
The map has records and marks by preceding parties. All of that is collected into intel that are sold for money.
Proof that previous parties have gone in and out of this dungeon. It's not that they've conquered the dungeon or anything. Their goal had always been mapping this place after weighing the risk and return.

"We should be close to the stairway leading to the floor below. Stay sharp guys. Goblin Warriors and Archers are lying in ambush around here."

Melgis who stayed on course in high alert told us intel on supposed monsters.
We ran into five goblins on our way here, they only got the usual clubs and knives as weapons.
But apparently warriors and archers are not your ordinary goblins.
Which is obvious when you see them.

(They've got a nice leather chest protector and a fine sword. Paired with goblins holding a short bow in the back huh.)

Once I confirmed them by sight, I 'Accelerated' and ran ahead.
I didn't need to draw my katana, I just slapped them around.
There were five warriors and three archers. I slapped them once each and searched for more lurking goblins. After checking behind covers and corners, I undid Acceleration.

(I expected more from an ambush. Anticlimactic? No, I guess any more than this would be too much for floor one.)

I ended all the previous goblins with one iai slash each without Acceleration. It was nothing.
Wasn't even worth a warm up. But from White Fang members' perspective, my impression is not normal.

"Oy, how... did he do that?"
"I could only see glints from the blade. But not the moment he drew his sword."
"How'd that even work... I sensed zilch..."
"Terrifying. You're scaring me for real..."
"What kind of sword school is that? Or perhaps it is thanks to that weapon?"

Every one of them spoke their mind about me. Even now after I got rid of Warriors and Archers.

"...Hey? How'd he get that far away in just one blink?"
"I didn't even notice him attempting to move..."
"Why can't I sense any mana flow even after he did all that feat!?"
"...I must be dreaming... No. This is reality. It'll be the end of me if I don't believe my own eyes."
"He just vanished... Indeed, it is as if a power that is no mere 'speed' was at work..."

And thus we got through floor one uneventfully.

I got down the stairway along 'White Fang' who took their time walking here.
The start of floor two. What we saw there would have normally prompted us to retreat.

Skill? Nee yo Sonnamon! Chapter 19

Stampede (2) ~Kickbacking to Tasty Exp~

342, 378. 401...
No way, it's still going up...!?
As I acted surprised like a yasai people looking at increasing combat power, I kept watch on my total exp.
<TLN: 'Yasai' means vegetable, spelling it backward in Japanese gets you 'Saiya'.>

Below me, the adventurers are having a field day on magic beasts that have lost their sight and hearing.
Is it just me, or am I getting exp every time an adventurer killed one of those beasts...?
Menu-san, any clue?

<<When a group of people defeat magic beasts, the ratio of allocated experience points is decided depending on total damage dealt, killing blows, status effects dealt, and healing wounds dealt by magic beasts. Presently, Kajikawa Hikaru has dealt status effects on the magic beasts being eliminated, thus he is given around 20-30% of experience points granted.>>

...Eeh, what's up with that parasitic leveling tech.
Feels like cheating. Imagine getting exp even though you're nowhere near the site of combat.

But well, I'm laughing inwardly though.

Thinking again, I did charge headlong into a group of enemy on my lonesome risking my life in the process, so this kind of side benefit is just about apt.
They're all frantically fighting in the melee anyway, I'm sure they don't notice a bit of exp missing.
Some of those guys diligently count their kills though.

Now that my MP is back to full thanks to level up, there's still some things I can do here.

『Kiiiyiiiiii!!』

Whoops, multiple silhouettes are fast approaching my way while letting out familiar screeches.
Bladewings huh. The light and booming sound seemingly had little effects on them due to distance.
They're glaring hard at me looking enraged.

Just what I need. Would be real trouble for the folks below had they started carpet bombing.
I'll exterminate them here.

Bwosh

I closed in on one of those weird birds at great speed.

『Kikiiiii!?』

What a slow reaction, guess they're not used fighting against something faster than them.
I grabbed the wings from behind to seal its flight and then.

Bwosh! Fwoooooosh....

『Kiki!? Kiiiiiyiiiiiii!!!』

I nose dived with the bird locked in hands!
There's no way to escape grave injury crashing down the ground at this speed. Heck, only death awaits.
You scared? You must be. I mean I'm super scared myself. Hiiiie.
I broke away before we crashed. Not forgetting to affix and harden my mana on its wings to prevent it flying away.

SPLAT!

The weird bird crashed down hard.
Vomiting blood as its body twisted before promptly dying.

Oh, my MP recovered. Another level up huh.

There's four Bladewings left.
Get ready to meet the same fate you weird birdies.
I ignored the Air Sparrows since most of them were already neutralized from the light and sound.

Thus I crashed all the Bladewings one by one.
I got the chill when I imagined running out of MP during a nose dive.
Five Bladewings taken care of. My level went up again. Uhaha.
Now then, what's going on below I wonder?

Hm, seems like they're done with around 30-40% of the beasts.
The Hob goblins and what look like an evolved version of Kobold are still full health, but the rest are dying at a quick pace.
Well, I guess killing beasts that can't see or hear is easier than a sitting duck.
So much yummy exp too. Nice going guys, go get em hahaha! ...Let's not get ahead of myself.

Now then, the hard part starts here.
The magic beasts are recovering their vision and hearing over time.
Around half of the remaining magic beasts already have their sight and hearing restored to a degree.
The magic beast side still holds superiority in number. And the strong ones are still around. We can't let our guard down.
Though well, all the adventurers here are stronger than me, they won't die easily.

I'd like to deal damage on the bigwigs like hob goblins and co. as much as I could while we still have the advantage.
But that's kinda hard with my Stats.
Nose diving them is out of question too, I can't lift something that big off ground. They're not airborne like Bladewings and their light bones.
What do.

As I was thinking, I saw one of the adventurers getting his leg stabbed by a goblin's knife.
It's a level 5 dagger user boy. He's 15 though, not sure if I can still call him boy since he's considered of age already in this world.

Oh, he drank a recovery potion. Whoa whaaat? His wound closed up and his HP went back to full the moment he gulped down the potion.
What's with that medicine. It's scary how instantaneously effective it is.
I saw him throwing the emptied bottle at the goblin's head afterward. Man, what a bold boy.

...That's it!

Bwosh!

I flew toward the gate at high speed to execute the idea I just came up with.

I saw Guildmast near the gate.
I'd like to complain about the number of magic beasts being double than forecasted, but let's save that for later.

"Oh, Kaji-I mean Soarer. Nicely done on your part."

<TLN: Catch the latest updates and edits at Sousetsuka .com >
Guildmast called out to me. Who the heck is Kaji. I mean.

"Excuse me, do you have some stones for throwing left?"

"Hm? They're inside white sacks by the rear guards."

"May I have a few?"

"Suit yourself, we've got piles of them... What are you gonna use them for?"

I went to grab a stone filled sack without waiting for his reply and flew back to the battlefield.
Ugugu, heavy. Think it's easily 30kg.
I was about to wrap it up in mana but stopped short, gotta save my MP.

I'm now right above the hob goblins but they haven't noticed me due to being blinded.
I don't see adventurers around too, should have no problem with friendly fire.

Time to drop 'em down.

I coated each and every baseball-sized stones with mana.
That ate up a lot more MP than expected. Don't seem like I can reuse this tactic often.
And then, I controlled my mana to nose dive the stones fast at the hob goblins below!

BWOSH!

Around 30-40 stones fell down at tremendous speed.
My current elevation is around the top of an average skyscrapper. Even just dropping them as is would deal huge damage. So what happens when they're sped up.

DADADADADADADADAN!!

Splat, splat, splat.

The stones landed on the hob goblins.
The ground looks like a lotus with multiple holes opened on them. Kinda gross.
Those who got hit on the head died instantly. Those who got hit on the body had a big hole opened on it and quietly fell down afterward.

U-uwaa... Nasty.
It's like watching victims of a military mini gun.
This is one cruel tactic if I do so say myself. But this is war. It's inevitable.

That managed to kill three hob goblins. Along with several goblins.
My MP recovered again with another level up. Man, this battlefield's too good. So many tasty exp to go around.

Meanwhile, the magic beast side has finally managed to regroup.
But it's too late.

There's only 150 magic beasts left. Most of which are goblins, kobolds and miscellaneous small fry.
Our side may still be fewer but our stats far surpass them. A little difference in number means nothing.

There's one evolved version of Kobold, akin to Hob Goblin to Goblin, High Kobold? remaining, but it's just a nearly level 20 individual.
It's even having a quarrel with one of its friends. What the hell are they doing now.
Our victory is all but guaranteed. No way we'd lose, and yet.

I've got a bad feeling about this.
In a situation where everything goes right like this, there's always gonna be one stumbling block.

Think me, what's the biggest risk in this situation?

Bladewings, airborne magic beasts have been eliminated, no problem there.

The rest of magic beasts consist of ordinary goblins and kobolds. They're acting as meat shields for a High Kobold and a Hob Goblin that are fighting each other. It's only a matter of time before they're exterminated, also no problem here.

So yeah, those two beasts are the most suspect.
Their quarrel looks more like a desperation out of necessity than a simple grudge.
What's their goal?

<<Conjecture: They are fighting in order to gain experience point needed to level up as well as raise Magic Beast skill level so they can evolve.>>

...Eh, evolve? Now of all time?
Shouldn't they work together instead.

<<Current fighting prowess of the adventurers present here can easily suppress two Level 19 magic beasts. But if a Hob Goblin or a High Kobold evolved, the result would become unpredictable.>>

Oh crap, I should've gone for those two first thing first.
Dammit, gotta go grab those stones quick and.... Ah!

『GAAAAAAAA!! Ga, fu...!』

『GUOOOOOOOO!!』

The High Kobold bit off the Hob Goblin's arm and howled.
The Hob Goblin convulsed and stopped moving after a bit.
At the same time, the High Kobold's body began to pulse and underwent a transformation.
Dammit, didn't make it in time.

Its eyes carry a ferocity that won't let its prey escape.
Its claws are long and sharp to tear its enemy apart.
Its row of fangs specialize in biting its foes to death.

Evolution, complete.

A true wolf man, Were Wolf.
It's built like that of human, but with more fur and muscles, and more combat oriented.

Its stats stand head and shoulders above any magic beasts I've encountered so far.
The falling stones tactic earlier should still manage to damage it but it has regained its sight and hearing back. It's also far faster. No telling if they'd even hit.
Now then, there's just one thing I wanna say to this Were Wolf.

Put on a cloth dammit! Or what, are you into exposing yourself even before evolving or something?

Kamisama no Kago wo Kyohishitara?! Chapter 285

285 Third Wheel

I have a standard. One of which, I don't feel queasy slicing up animals I deem as food.
I had been doing that during 'hunting' days at my village. It's simply part of life if you want to survive.
Of course, I was trembling in shock when I first made the attempt as a child.
But you get used to it over time. Help that my father showed the how step by step.

However, seeing grotesque or splatter scenes that come up of nowhere will make me feel sick.
Reason being preparedness in heart or the lack of it. Ergo, me vomiting when I slaughtered those orcs back then.
Dissecting that boar magic beast in the forest didn't make me feel queasy. Must be due to my mind recognizing it as a food.

The reason that thought is occupying my mind is because I'm in a dungeon right now.

(Dungeon-borne monsters vanish into light particles when they die so I'm totally fine.)

==  ==  ==  ==

We went to the dungeon at noon today. It's located smack dab in the middle of a wilderness quite a distance away from the kingdom.
The place is bustling with a lot of stalls around doing business with adventurers, it almost looks like a festival.
In the middle of them all is a huge hole on the ground. It's so humongous you'd think it was a giant pitfall at a glance.
There's a hut and simple fences around what seems to be the entrance with the kingdom's soldiers guarding the spot and checking the adventurers wanting to go in.

Of course. 'White Fang' aren't the only adventurers in the business. Judging from the attires, around 80% of the people here are ones.

"Let's draw the lot for our party. Looks like we're going last though."

Kidd spoke. Firuna added.

"From what I observed, the dungeon this time appears to be quite arduous. I have been catching sights of many injured people with damaged equipment."

"It'll be fine! My magic's gonna take care of them in one go like usual! Like 'Boom!' and that's that!"

Melgis looked at the cheery Mary with a dubious expression.

"You ever listen to the word you spout off? Remember the last time we had to retreat cause of that lax attitude of yours?"

"Wasn't that also cause you forgot to remove a trap!? It wasn't all me~!"

"Enough of that. Pull yourselves together, you two. Kidd is back from drawing our lot."

Danku soothed the two. I remained silent all the while.
There's nothing for me to do here. My turn is inside the dungeon.
'White Fang' is chatting around like they always do. As if I'm not there. Like I'm a third wheel.

(Well I don't really care. I'm just a temporary 'companion' to them, not here to make friends.)

We're simply making use of one another. They serve as my 'cover' in this dungeon conquering.
And they use me as a 'firepower'.
That said, they probably won't understand why I'm even doing it.

"Got a so-so number. Our turn is just before evening today. Let's grab some grub and do a final check before then."

Kidd went to look for an inn after saying that. Apparently you can check in rooms to spend time in this place.
The system naturally got established due to the queue. You could wait even longer if you're struck with bad luck after all.
This place is a bit too far from the kingdom. Thus this system allows people to kick back without going on a round trip.
I went with them to the inn, in awe of business zeal people everywhere possess.

Inside the room, we put all the food we bought from the stalls along the way in a table for everyone to grab.

"I would like to consult you on one thing. Regarding the allotment of monsters."

Firuna asked me.

"...Explain. I don't get it just from that."

I had a hunch of what she's trying to say, but urged her to continue nonetheless.

"We wish to preserve our strength as much as possible. As such, we hope we could borrow your strength to spearhead the way."

She must have come up with the idea after seeing all the injured people here.
If those people ended up like that from fighting small fry, not even 'White Fang' would come out unharmed.
So I am to take point.

"That has always been the plan. In fact, I'm going to decimate every single thing blocking the way."

"Hey! Don't you think you're going overboard? That just sounds like you don't even need us to come with you or something!"

(What is this girl's flaring up for? Is she emotionally unstable?)

Mary snarled on me, Firuna reined on her.

"Mary, your magic is indeed powerful. As such, we should save it until the right time. Please refrain from casting any spell while he is in battle. It could prove fatal if you run out of mana during the most crucial moment."

Mary shut up after hearing that. Melgis spoke afterward.

"Any problem with me leading the way? Or maybe you can take care of trap removals and finding directions on your own as well?"

"No I can't. I specialize in combat stuff."

I told the truth. Best to leave it to the pro here.
'Noted', Melgis stepped back after saying that.
Danku came forward.

"Do you need a shielder?"

It must be his role. I replied just as curtly.

"I'm good. You focus on protecting our healer, Firuna."

Our survival rate will go up so long as our lifeline is intact. I'm not going to let myself get hit, but who knows what's gonna crop up in dungeons, this is for the best.

"Now then, I guess we're about done. There's a lot of unnerving elements this time around, but we are adventurers. We're pretty much finished if we get cold feet here. Let's pull through this together."

With Kidd's ending speech, we left our room and went back to the dungeon's entrance.

The soldier stationed nearby walked up to us and asked for confirmation.

"Allow me to take your lot. Okay, you guys must be 'White Fang'. Good luck. I'll take you to the ladder."

We climbed down around five meter long hole and found ourselves in front of a cave, the starting line of this dungeon.
