528 Night, Raid, and the Circumstances?
There were some commotions in the middle of the night, I was already quite spent.
I dug deeper inside my blanket like I couldn't care less about any of that and journeyed back into the land of dreams.
The following morning, I got up feeling well rested and stretched as the sunlight peeked from the window.
I walked up to the window in order to bask in the sunlight and gaze outside.
"...What the. Aa, one, two, three... Ah, four of them. They're just lying there."
I tried to work my still sleepy brain to process the dark figures in my field of vision.
"What's up with griffon? It's breathing kinda roughly... No really, what the heck is this? A raid?"
The fog in my head finally cleared up and it clicked with me.
The commotions last night. Griffon ended up causing a trouble, not me.
"Ah... I can tell where this is going... And I was already full yesterday too, sigh... Give me a break will you? But this too is the result of me saving griffon..."
Feels like I'm talking to myself often these days. No, I definitely do.
I left my room and went to the garden. In order to confirm myself.
"Oy, griffon. What happened? Who are these men? Wait, you can't talk..."
Griffon noticed me and moved its face closer, as if asking me to praise it.
"Oh, there, there. Good morning griffon. So, what's going on here?"
It's neither too early or too late in the morning. I'm guessing it's around 6:30? I believe.
Four men in black clothing are laying in Binota's largish garden.
"They here for reports? Or trespassers? Either way, I'll let Binota handle everything."
While I was mulling over what to do, Binota and his maid came out of the house.

"What's the matter? ...Oh, oh!? Who are these men? They're still alive it seems. Let's hurry and save them!"
"Young master! You must not! Don't get close to them! These men are trespassers! I saw them last night! I was too afraid to leave my room. I only mustered my courage after seeing our guest going outside."
Looks like we have an eyewitness here. Still, I'm not sure if that's the correct reaction to have, Binota. He's hopeless.
I tied these four suspicious individuals with a rope and asked the maid for more detail.
I was right on the money.
She peeked out of the window when she noticed rustling noises and saw these four going after griffon.
Griffon easily took them down.
She also saw two more people with a big carriage waiting outside the gate, they were likely these four's accomplices.
"Ah, they must be... trying to capture griffon. And with just four people at that, I guess they're pretty strong?"
Binota denied me.
"No that's wrong. These men aren't particularly strong. Tamed beasts can only move when their master ordered them to, and while they can still fight back when attacked, they cannot fight at full strength. It's not unusual for tamed beasts to lose their life when their master isn't around during an attack. Tamed beasts normally cannot move independently without 'orders'."
Apparently tamed beasts with special power are often restricted by these 'orders' before they can unleash their power.
Tamed beasts can still move if the owner gives them a specific set of orders beforehand but they can't do anything complex.
They're no p*cket m*ns. Wonder if A*h will ever become a master?
"So what do we do about these men? Tow them to the guards? For the crime of trespassing of course."
"They must be under the belief that even a griffon can't put up a fight when it's tamed, believing they could easily capture it. I bet they didn't even think twice which to choose between the prospect of acquiring griffon's materials and unlawfully entering someone's premise. They can get a lot of money if they succeed. It'd only be a light crime if they failed."
"Hey? So there's no punishment for attacking someone's tamed beast?"
"Right, well. It is not a crime but the Society of Tamed Beasts can retaliate. The only issue is that they won't act unless you have a strong case with foolproof evidence and testimonies. Do so however, and you can severely punish the offenders. It almost never happens though."
"Because magic beasts are considered a danger? So they don't care?"
"The important point is how tamed beasts are bound by a Mana Gate. This Mana Gate is proof that a magic beast is a tamed beast. This gate vanishes when a tamed beast dies. And so does the evidence. Assailants can simply say that it was an ordinary magic beast. You're powerless to argue against it. This world is full of contradictions, inconsistency and wallows. Even the tamers won't have an excuse if assailants insist that the tamed beast went out of control. Registering a beast only requires you to prove that they can follow orders after all."
"Well ain't it crude. Is there a point to holding onto the certificate you gave me then?"
"Ah, that's just a scrap of paper that indicates the beast is a kept one and harmless."
The maid was making her way to the guard station while we were chatting to kill time while we watched over the trespassers.
After a while, captain-san who helped me yesterday came over. Alongside 30 of his subordinates.
"How did this... Haa, you fools what were you thinking..."
Captain-san sighed when he saw the four criminals. I get him. Those men must be dumb.
It's said you need 30 skilled men to barely hunt one griffon.
And that is in the form of an 'ambush'.
The clincher is the fact that Griffon doesn't have a Mana Gate.
Of course. I don't have mana after all.
"How many days have it been? You look well. My daughter has safely returned home. You have my gratitude. Indeed, I can never thank you enough."
Sir Lolengus showed up.
