　The car we're riding on made its way to the hotel alongside the delegation entourage microbus.
　It's Akimiya Resort Hotel, no comment from me. Of course.
　The delegation entourage is going to meet Akimiya Family Head, our school chairman at the hotel before leaving for the mainland.
　A meeting with Akimiya Family Head ahead of this country's major politicians... This fact alone hints at Akimiya's importance over the country.
　We all changed from our student uniforms to plain clothes in this hotel.

"Phew... Even the suite room is so huge and luxurious. No, wait, of course it is."

　The penthouse I stayed at previously is reserved for Norun-sama this time. We're on the suit room a floor below it. Being the only man, I naturally changed clothes in the dressing room alone. Naturally. Gotta admit the big mirror is handy to have too.

"Sasahara-kun, we're done changing. We will be meeting up in the lobby on the first floor once you're done."
"Got it. I'm just about done too."

　I opened the door and got greeted with two girls in their best going out clothes different from their usual choices for school. You could say flashy even.
　Yep, just two. Satomi-san is at the penthouse with Norun-sama.

"Oh, you two got this different vibe to you today. Makes me kinda nervous."
"Hmm, that doesn't feel bad even as a flattery."
"Hmhmm, aren't I, aren't I?"
"How about me?"
"You don't look really different?"
"Yep, same as ever?"
"Eeh..."

　Dangit!

　I pulled myself together and went to the lobby where a goddess awaited.
　A goddess. Norun-sama in her plain clothes' just on another level altogether. The sight of a hard to approach beauty walking up to me makes my heart throb like mad.

"I've been waiting for you. Let us proceed ahead."

　Yes, my majesty!



　Norun-sama said she wanted to see the artificial beach outside the hotel in the resort area first thing first. Yes, by your will. Darn it, if only the season was summer, we could have taken a dip in the water....

"Fufu, I could only watch from the rooftop previously. I'm finally here on foot. Yuuki-kun, have you been here much after you moved?"
"Nope. Actually, I haven't gotten around the urban areas yet."
"Oh I see. I'm finally allowed to go back to earth once this excursion with Norun-san is over. Then maybe we can go together... The commute to my academy will be rough though."
"Hahaha... Getting on a plane every morning sounds extravagant. How do you deal with the fares?"
"My campus is covering all the expenses. They also offered me a house to stay at over there, but I feel uneasy about that. I'd still rather commute from earth even if it means waking up early."

　I see. Satomi-san is probably getting a special treatment at the academy over there too. That chick she summoned must be that special.

"Yuuki-sama, Satomi-san, please come closer. Look, look the sea is so transparent! You can see below!"
"Ahaha, looks like Norun-san is having a lot of fun. Let's go."

　Gwu! Her smile's too dazzling! She looks so innocent even while in high spirits... I'm gonna fall for her!

"It's really pretty isn't it, Norun-sama."
"Yes. Thirdis beach is equally as exquisite but this beach has this 'manmade immaculate feel' to it. It's truly incredible when you consider that this place was originally an open sea."
"It really is... It's only been 60 years since the two worlds came together... It can't just be magic, I'm sure."

　These two Grandia natives' impression is probably not far off. It's not only magic. This technological marvel is only possible due to the combined might of Earth's science and Grandia's magic.
　But well, magic is what made this sea so clean and the construction of that unbelievably long bridge possible. Nothing is too far-fetched in the face of science and magic hybrid.

"--Yeah, we're at the resort area beach right now... Yeah. Hm, roger. I'll be in touch."
"Hm? Ichinose-san, a comm?"
"Yeah. Kai's group called. They're standing by in a cafe in the business district outside the resort area."
"I see. Guess we should get a move on."

　I made a suggestion to Norun-sama. Why don't we head for the shopping area now?

"Yes, let's. Fufu, we had to close the area previously but I'm going incognito now. I should be able to take in the liveliest sight."
"I bet you will. I went there for the first time a little while ago myself. There's so many people, we should be careful we don't get lost."
"Fufu, should we link arms again then?"
"Uuou... Please don't tease me, Norun-sama."
"Ufufu, pardon me. Then at least allow me to stay by your side."

　What an honor. I shall happily be your escort.

"Yuuki is really cajoling Norun-sama..."
"Don't phrase it like that!"

　Per Norun-sama's wish, we went to clothing and accessory stores and a crepe stall flocked by young girls, having fun all while watching out for anyone suspicious. 
　If there were anyone suspicious... It would be a girl holding an amount of crepes that was too much for one girl in the distance. Koune-san is the same as ever even during a mission.
　The rest of her group look agape.
　As I turned my eyes around in caution, my line of sight stopped at a shuttered store among the rows of stores.
　There's a notice 'looking for a new tenant', guess it's closed?

"...How nostalgic. Even though it was merely half a year ago."
"Norun-sama. What's wrong about this place?"

　Norun-sama stopped next to me and whispered to my ear.

"This was where my abduction took place. Is this your first time on this side?"
"Ah... Yes, it is. I see... It's here huh."
"Yes. I would have never dreamed of being targeted back then. I lacked insight. I asked my escorts to stay outside the shop while I went in alone... As it turned out, both the people who recommended this store the shopkeepers were all in collusion to harm me."
"I had no idea..."
"The perpetrators were all earthlings. There were no witnesses since the area was closed off, as such the incident was made as if it never happened. If news travel about how earthlings, Japanese at that, made an attempt to harm a Grandia noble were to become public, all the trust built between two worlds would instantly come crashing down. There was a real possibility many nations, both on Earth and Grandia, would raise their doubt over a continued relationship between two worlds."  
"...I can see it yes. Even this cultural exchange is hanging on a very delicate balance."

　That's right. The scale is not between two countries anymore.
　It's between two worlds. Both sides find a ground with the least amount of friction to compromise on while shouldering many nations on each other's back... My action back then must carry an infinitely more significant meaning than my wildest imagination.

"Sasahara-kun, Norun-sama. It seems there's an influx of people during this period in this zone. Since we've toured most of the shopping area already, how about we take a look at the specialty shops at the harbor ward?"
"Ah, yes indeed. I would love to go there. To tell you the truth, I haven't taken a step on the mainland either but I've heard that there's all kinds of shops from all over the world open at the harbor ward."
"Hee... I haven't been there. Let's go and see them."
"Yeah. I'll contact the other group. Looks like Koune went to another cafe. They're having a meal right now."
"...Girl's got the nerve of steel."

　I mean, I can see her happily gobbling down sandwiches over a window from where I am. They're well positioned at least....

"Ahaha, your classmates look so fun, Yuuki-kun. But I've got to say I'm also feeling peckish for lunch."
"Same here. Yuuki, Mikoto-chan, what do you wanna have for lunch?"
"Hm, it's a bit too crowded here, how about we look for a restaurant at the harbor ward too?"
"Yes, let's. The ward is supposed to house stores from all kinds of districts. Perhaps we could find a restaurant serving Yuuki-sama's home cuisines as well."
"Mine? Hmm, I don't think there's anything worth having. But I won't say no to an opportunity to taste all sorts of cuisines."

　Do young people even enjoy my hometown's local cuisine? Even I never had one.
　Besides, I don't think local cuisines suit young people's palate... Oh right, Karaage was a local cuisine too. I think they had a TV channel featuring chicken with tartar sauce or something back then.
　But those are quite the heavy line up for girls' lunch.

　The harbor ward is located on the coast of the floating city near the super long bridge connected to the mainland.
　Besides the specialty shops selling goods from Japanese districts, there's also a lot of stores with goods from countries close to Japan as well as America and China on display.
　Whoaa... As someone who've never gone anywhere besides his hometown and Tokyo, it's a novel sight.

"After witnessing this and the shopping area, I'm convinced Japan is an expert at utilizing space. Also, I apologize if it offends you but despite lacking land area compared to Grandia, I find it quite interesting how varied the products each districts has to offer."
"I am in agreement, the people to land ratio is particularly dense in Tokyo and the floating city. I spent my childhood in Grandia, thus I came to the same realization when I returned to Japan."
"Yep, hard to think otherwise. Not only the buildings are all so tall, I've heard there are sprawling shopping zones situated underground on the mainland. Everything's so incredibly developed."

　Even a rural man unrelated to Grandia like me shares the same impression on that note. I've never seen this many people even during festivals in my town.

"Norun-sama, looks like restaurants are concentrated in the area ahead. Would you like to have lunch first before we go on a tour?"
"Very well. Then... Satomi-san and Yuuki-sama hail from the same hometown, do you not? Let's search for a restaurant with cuisines from there."
"Ah, I'm sorry Norun-sama. I just looked it up on my terminal. They're temporary closed today."
"Eh! But I was looking forward to Yuuki's home cooking."
"Fumu, to think one could find out such a thing from one's terminal... That's a shame."
"Yes, truly... Let's make our choice as we go then."

　The restaurant's homepage got this notice, 'We're closed today because we could not source a bear'. Are they sourcing from a hunter or something? That is to say, wild game.
　That's one hell of a restaurant... Wait don't tell me they source the bears from the hill behind our campus.
　At any rate, I'm so famished I feel like I can rival Koune-san in an eating contest, we better find a restaurant among these specialty stores and fast.
　There's a lot of seafood probably because we're in a harbor.
　I even found a branch store of the sushi shop I went with Ixia-san back then.
　Many restaurants offer local cuisines, being in the area we are.
　Lots are pushing their promos hard, like 'Horse Sashimi Delivered Straight from Kumamoto', or 'Hakata Tasty Fest'... They all look so nice, I'm gonna check them out with Ixia-san on payday.

"Fufu, there's this appetizing smell in the air. I cannot pinpoint which restaurant is it from... What fun."
"Same here. All these country-specific restaurants are quite famous... But I don't have the faintest idea about them being a Tokyo native I am. Satomi-san, Sasahara-kun. Could you recommend cuisines you are familiar with. I am ill informed."
"Well... I usually eat ready-made stuff... Satomi-san, it's on you."
"E, eeh!? U, ummm.... Ah! How about that Chiba Cuisine over there? Did you know that this floating city is actually closer to Chiba than Tokyo if we measure by a straight line?"

　Ah, I know that trivia. But they made the bridge to Tokyo instead because it's the heart of the nation.

"Chiba... I believe Akimiya's main office is located in Chiba. The family head, Ryouka-sama was born in Chiba too as it seemed. Let us head to that restaurant."
"I see, that does sound good. As expected of Satomi-san, a nice choice indeed. You can learn a thing or two from her, Sasahara-kun. It may sound unconvincing coming from me... But you ought to know more about your country's culture."
"Uu... Loud and clear, ma'am."

　...By the way, what does Chiba have for cuisine I wonder. My image of Chiba would be... That 'Hahaha' mouse. It exists in this world too. That land is there too, I'd like to check it out one day.

　The restaurant is crowded since it's lunchtime but there's still several open tables left.
　A box table with one man and four girls. This is... quite a nice position I got.

"Hee... So it was Chiba's local dish. Got my pick."
"Oh that was fast, Yuuki-kun. I'm still undecided... What're you getting Yuuki-kun?"
"Hmm, it's this 'Namerou Set'."

　Satomi-san sitting next to me couldn't make her choice so I told her my pick.
　My late grandpa loved it. He'd cook it himself sometimes and my grandma would scold him, 'What're you cooking that and drinking booze for when the sun's still so high up!'
　I personally liked it too. Wish I was 20 already.

"Ah, then, I'll have the same too. What's it like?"
"Hm? It's sliced fish kinda like sashimi but flavored. It doesn't really have a strong taste, I'm sure you can handle it. If you're fine with sashimi that is."
"Yep I'll be fine. I can eat raw fish just fine. They're healthy and full of protein."

　Ou... That's a workout mania for you. Selia-san never lets up, does she.
　Satomi-san picked the same dish as well. Only Ichinose-san and Norun-sama are left.

"I shall have this Tri Roll Set. I didn't know it was from Chiba."
"Oh that's a lovely looking dish. I'll have the same set."

　Whoaa... Isn't that supposed to be a major dish. To think it's actually a local cuisine... Even local stuff is high grade in big cities!
　We had a chat while we waited for our orders.
　The topic being, me of all things. Please spare me.

"High school Yuuki-kun? Hmm... I actually only started talking to him in summer of our third year. Before that, Yuuki-kun was... sorry to say, a sort of a loafer, I thought I would have nothing to do with him."
"Eh, is that true?"

　I'm actually curious about that too.
　I wandered my way into this world around the middle of June on my third year. I'm not clear on my position in this world before that.
　...But I always have an inkling that the me here was probably the same as I was in my original world, just playing around as I went... Gununu, getting called a loafer just cuz I was a game center habitual.
　But then what was I spending my time on in this world? Did I go home straight and played the games in my house?

"Fumu, so he was. Rather shocking."
"Hee... So you managed to enroll in our school despite being a loafer, Yuuki."
"Un... But I think Yuuki-kun had a shift. It's not like he was problematic or anything, just that he played around a lot. But then one day, he started to study diligently and went to the library often. I found that curious and decided to talk to him..."
"I see, so you saw me. And then one day, you asked about a lesson while I was studying in the library on holiday."

　I see. I bet she was checking if I was really studying. I think Satomi-san was a library committee member.

"Ah, but he was always the second best on practical combat lesson in our school. He held on the top spot ever since sometime before summer vacation too."
"Sounds about right... I mean, yep that's right... Oh man, sure takes me back."

　That was when I got lost in this world, and beaten up badly by Shousuke cuz I had no clue how to Physical Boost.

"Sasahara-kun being second... is hard to believe. He holds the best rank in bare handed combat practice right now. I loathe to admit but he's our class's ace."
"Right. And that makes me and Mikoto-chan compete for the second spot."

　Personally, I think Ichinose-san has a slight edge over Selia-san. If weapons were allowed... She's probably on an equal footing with me with my limiter on.

"Hee! So he's still first on Scwhein School... I bet it would come as a shock to Shousuke-kun."
"Haha, for sure. Then again, who knows... He's got all kinds of restrictions lifted off after entering college, he's gotta be much stronger now."
"You're right. Shousuke-kun was supposed to be a mage type yet he could put up a good fight with Yuuki-kun. If he participated in a Summoning Experiment..."

　Guy might be eligible for Scwhein School if he got some sort of +α power.
　It's really such a waste... He likes his studies as much as he likes combat after all.

"I bet this individual's prowess is authentic if he has Sasahara-kun's stamp of approval."
"I'm personally interested about the fact that he can match up with Yuuki in melee despite being a mage. I wanna have a match with this person."

　Our food came just as our chat got all heated up. Time for a break.
　Ooh... It looks so good. Dunno what fish is it though.
　We each voiced our opinions on our food and none found theirs inadequate as we spent a quiet meal time.
　...Save for Arariel peeking from outside the window, looking bitter as Koune-san dragged him away by the arm.
　...Didn't you just have a meal, girl. Are you ever gonna be satisfied.

"Thank you for the meal. The rice in this world is definitely tastier than Grandia's. We have rice fields on our side but we lack the selective breeding technology from this world... It's such a wonder how minute cultures such as that is far more advanced in this world even though our world's history spans much farther back."
"Ah, you mean stuff like national identity?"
"If I may have a word, Norun-sama. On the other hand, earth still has a shallow understanding on the root of magical technology. They focus solely on the practical use. The grass is greener on the other side."
"Fufu, perhaps that is so."

　Fumu, I guess that's how it is. I don't really get the root of magical technology thing, but the source of mana on Earth comes from Grandia through the gate after all. Hence all existing things that rely on magic will cease to exist if the Gate were to vanish... Earth has got to be more careful with its handling of Grandia.
　Afterward, we toured around all kind of specialty stores with bulged stomachs.

"Hou... This was a Tokyo Specialty huh..."
"Ah, it's Kaminari-Okoshi. I love that snack. It goes well with tea... Wonder if I'm permitted to buy some."
"Fumu I don't see any problem. You could have it delivered to the campus if you wish to free your hand."
"Oh right. Okay, I'll take this, and also that..."

　Here you see a country bumpkin buying up Tokyo stuff. Can't help myself.

"Yuuki-kun's preferences are all somber, aren't they. Like that lunch earlier."
"Well, I spent my whole life with my grandma and grandpa after all."
"I see, that must play a role. I'll have some of that too."

　I've got green tea stocked up at home already. Even tea brewing specialist, Ixia-san had a tough time brewing green tea. The brewmanship is really deep... I just brew at random though.

"Phew... I have bought quite a lot. Fufu, I caught a sight of an object from Yuuki-sama's hometown. It's a mask of a scary devil."
"Ah... That's not really a devil, more a deity... I agree on the scary part though."
"My, so it was. How discourteous of me..."

  It's that one. They swarm to crying children. 'It's your fault they're crying'.
　I explain to her the outline. They're a nosy beings that scold crying children and lazy wives.

"Fufu, ufufufufu.... How interesting. A deity like that exists. Fufu, truly amusing."
"Hahaha... I'm sorry for my hometown. It's more like a folklore though."
"I see. So it's a folklore."

　Looks like it plucked Norun-sama's heartstring. She took the mask from her shopping bag and put it on.

"Where are the crying children! Fufu, like that?"
"Yep yep, like that."

　She's way too cute. My heart skipped a beat. Even crying kids would fall for her.
　Norun-sama went to another specialty store and bought more souvenirs before we took a break at a nearby park.
　Kai's group just came out of a Hokkaido specialty store in the distance before resting in the same park as we're at. What're they thinking I wonder.

"Well, it's a sufficiently large park after all. Their group having a repose here should not look unnatural. It should pose no issue."
"Hm, got it. Then... I'll stand guard on the sea side just in case. Who can say hostiles won't pop up from the sea, right?"
"...There is a basis to that. It is in your hands, Sasahara-kun."

　I took a slight breather now that the other group is close by. This whole thing has actually been taking a heavy toll on my mental despite my nonchalant attitude.
　...I have to protect my classmates while taking the role of Norun-sama's bodyguard.
　That pressure has been slowly but surely sapping away at my willpower.

"...They're all actually pretty strong themselves though."
"Who's strong again?"

　Satomi-san came by and stood next to me while I was gazing at the sea.
　Is Norun-sama fine without her?

"Over there. The group near the vending machines are your classmates right, Yuuki-kun? So I thought maybe I could take a breather."
"I see. But really... I still can't believe Satomi-san ended up being a princess's attendant."
"Ahaha... Like she mentioned before, I thought Norun-san was an ordinary student at first and often kept her company, then this was my position before I knew it. Besides... My summoned chick also serves as an insurance... She can't revive the dead, but she can restore a person back to health as long as they're still clinging to life. She's a phoenix after all."
"What the, that's too incredible... But I bet there's a drawback, no?"
"Yup. She, the chick is going to fall asleep. For a year, two years, or maybe more."

　I see... The return still far outstrips the drawback.

"But man... That bridge is ridiculously long when you actually have a good look. The monorail's speed is off the chart too. I'm getting cold feet just thinking of getting on that."
"Ahaha, that's for sure... Hey, would you like to take a look around Tokyo together once I'm back here?"
"Oh, sounds good to me. You can tell me how's Grandia like. Our class won't go there until next year."
"Eh, so like on your second year? Wow..."
"Yup. We're definitely going in a sort of mission, like this one. Wait, I guess it's not definite yet."
"My! If that is the case, I must request my country to have your class's presence on a mission."
"Uwaat! Norun-sama, that wasn't good for my heart..."

　Norun-sama's back attack! Yuuki almost fell to the ocean!
　No, seriously. That was a close call.

"Fufu, I beg your pardon, Yuuki-sama... That bridge is in clear view from here."
"Yes. Norun-sama will be crossing it in the evening right?"
"Yes. Once this tour comes to a close, I will go back to our hotel before heading for Nagata-chou in the evening. There I am to have a chat with the prime minister and then settle on a hotel in the city. Your class is invited to the banquet held at the hotel."
"I'm already feeling the pressure... I guess I can't not go, can I?"
"Fufu, but of course. Yuuki-sama is also--"

　That was when. The smart terminal inside Norun-sama's handbag rang.

"It's me... Yes, understood--Please give my regards to Uda-sama."
"...Is it from the delegation entourage?"
"Yes. They are on the way to the mainland now that their meeting with Akimiya's Family Head had concluded."
"Ah! You think it's that one?"
"Yes. They are riding on a different disguised vehicle as it looks like."

　A disguised microbus like the one we rode was running on the bridge as Satomi-san pointed.
　It's driving fast... The cars in this world are just that safe--
　That was when. The monorail running in parallel with the microbus below the bridge suddenly exploded, the shockwave caused all the cars above the bridge to stop.

"Wha!? An accident!?"
"Norun-sam, we're retreating to the park! All hands, gather up!"

　A part of the bridge has collapsed, completely closing off the road.
　Upon a closer inspection, the monorail didn't actually explode... The rail track did.
　The hanging monorail is stopped in its track, and the cars are almost falling down the crumbled bridge.
　They won't hold off for long, just as that thought crossed my mind--

"!? Wha... Another one..."

　Another explosion took place on the bridge behind the microbus, shutting down the sole escape route for all the vehicles there.
　The bridge pier and a segment of the bridge along with the cars, microbus and the monorail are completely isolated now.

"Sasahara-kun, hurry and round up!"
"Yea! All hands, regroup!"

　We reconvened and formed a circle with Norun-sama in the center.

"...It ain't no accident. They were gunnin' for that entourage, not the princess huh."
"...Hey, doesn't that look bad? The delegation car has been left behind there. Can't we save them?"
"Hmm... I think that, um, monorail? has it worse... It's being suspended in mid-air and all."

　Kazuki-san spoke calmly amidst the slightly panicked voices of my classmates.

"This place is too close to the scene. Shouldn't we head back to hotel and regroup with Universe One? Let me contact--"

　Before she could finish. A group of people in black combat suits and helmets ran up to us.
　We all prepared for battle before an individual from the group walked up to us.

"Are you all safe!? I'm a member of Universe One. We have deemed that we are under attack. We have been tasked to escort Norun-sama to the airport, not hotel, post-haste."
"Wha... Will the conference be called off?"
"In all likelihood, yes... Situation demands, we must bring you back asap. We cannot leave any chance open."

　It's... true, she'd be better off leaving Japan asap.
　Bombing? That's too large scale of a terrorist attack... 
　The group who called themselves Universe One took Norun-sama and then talked to Selia-san for some reason.

"You come along too."
"Eh? Why me?"
"Err... I'm the attendant..."
"Hm? Is that right? I thought for sure it was an elf."

　I reflexively used Physical Boost and instantaneously carried away Norun-sama in my arms before they could take her away. Then I hid behind my classmates. 

"Eh!? Um, Yuuki-sama?"
"What are you up to, Sasahara-kun!"

　Oy oy, this Universe One folks are supposed to be pro right. You're telling me they don't know who the attendant is? Of course not. We're also their targets of protection, y'know?

"All hands, prepare to engage. These guys are not Universe One."
"Oy oy, what're you--"

　Selia-san ran up and said this.

"You people... are elves, aren't you. I can tell from your presence and scent. Hey, Kaname-kun. Universe One members are all earthlings, right."
"Yep that's right. They're an Underworld Survey Team whose members and sponsors consist of exclusively earthlings. They scouted me out after all. I know them all by faces."

　A surprising reveal aside, the odd is stacked against them. Which means, these guys are--

"...Sasahara-kun. Do make sure Norun-sama stay safe."
"Roger that. Norun-sama, please bear with it as I carry you away in this position."
"Y, yes... If you would."

　Well in the end the only event worth mentioning in early May was a slight clash I had with Selia-san's friend.
　I didn't get into any other trouble and got closer with my classmates during the month. I'd like to think my social life has been going well.
　Meanwhile we finally entered the end of May.
　Early next month, that is to say tomorrow is when Norun-sama is arriving in Japan. My classmates are being briefed about it right now.

"Uuh... Escorting Norun-sama... is a huge responsibility..."
"It really is... Um, how is our formation like?"

　The two Grandia natives, Koune-san and Selia-san raised their concern.

"Having all eight of you follow Norun-sama would draw too much attention. As such, three among you will accompany Norun-sama as her bodyguards, while the rest is to mobilize together in a different student group not far from her entourage."
"Hee, then sign me up as the princess's guard. Gonna get close to her."

　Yeah don't think that's happening Arariel. Mess up and it'll lead to a diplomatic issue. You already went to that elven establishment anyway.

"Rejected. Her entourage members would be Selia as a fellow elf student. Ichinose for her close quarter combat ability. And lastly, Sasahara has been chosen for some reason."
"Hell yeah."

　Quit glaring at me, Arariel. You too Kai, don't look so bitter.
　And you Kaname, at least try to look like you're invested in this. Why are you reading a movie brochure now.

　Both Norun-sama and Satomi-san flashed a faint smile as I started my speech.

　After lunch, we went to a bookstore and successfully grabbed the books Ixia-san was pining for. Afterward, we looked around all sorts of shops and I finally fulfilled my long cherished wish of visiting a store selling Grandia-made items.
　But those items turned out to be geared more toward women, or more like magical objects that aren't weapons.

"Do these things have any effect at all? Feel like they're more something you hold on for peace of mind."

　Like that power stone stuff popular with women back in my world.
　They may actually be effective in this magic-ridden world though...

"Hee, so they aren't just for show at least... They look exquisite though, are they gems I wonder."

　I went with Ixia-san to buy her clothes since she rarely does so, but getting matching pajamas was kinda embarrassing and also kinda... nostalgic? Reminds me of that time my grandma brought me out to go shopping.

"Yuuki, where would you like to have dinner at. I don't mind visiting another restaurant, do you?"
"Ah, I've made an arrangement on that. It should be about time too. How about we head back home?"

　We made our way home on the bus line that runs even on weekends.

　And thus our fun pseudo date(?) came to a close.



　Evening. Someone rang the bell while we were relaxing in front of the TV at home.

"Ah, that's my package. I also made an order for dinner."

　Yep, I ordered sushi set for delivery as tonight's dinner.

"Ixia-san, they're sushi. Also, please accept this."

　I handed her a small bouquet and a small parcel.

"Today is the day known as 'Mother's Day' in this world. It's a day where you show your appreciation to your mother. It's a first for me too."
"...My. I see, Mother's Day... I see."
"Apparently it's customary to give a bouquet on Mother's Day. And this one is a gift from me."

　I had ordered the bouquet and sushi beforehand.
　I was wondering what to give her until I settled on the classic choice that would fit her as of late--

"This is... an apron? I was just pondering to purchase one myself... I'm so happy, I really am. You consider me your mother... You can call me 'Mom', you know?"

　I can't call her mom, I kinda don't want to. I mean, if we really became a mother and son... You, know? Feels like our relationship would become fixed.

　Seeing her this happy makes all the preparations worth it, slightly embarrassing as it may.
　I bought this sushi from a reputable restaurant too... Yup, they're good.

"Speaking of which, Yuuki. If there is a Mother's Day, does that mean there is a 'Son's Day' as well?"

'Children's Day' is a day where you pray for children to grow up well. It's specific to this country."

　She took those weird poses every once in a while maybe because she thinks she doesn't show much expressions on her face.

　Looking back... I caught a glimpse of this habit during my graduation day.
　At any rate, we celebrated our very first ever Mother's Day without any issue.





　Monday. Ixia-san still looked so happy as she made breakfast in her apron, it lifted up my mood as well.
　She said, 'I will be taking on a challenging dish today'. Looks like it's her way to pay me back.
　Ixia-san put her energy drink in a big bottle today, I'm planning to share it with my lab friends after today's training.
　I felt great as I walked down the hilly road under the warm morning sunlight.

　It's the guy who quit Practical Combat Theory Lab back then, Riiku Bizehan, aka Rick-Kun... Or so how I called him in my mind.

"I only got in the lab because you quit though."
"That's not all! Both labs you have joined solely focus on Physical Boost. Why did you pass on joining Crest Magecraft Lab! Are you not a mage!?"

　Oh, I had no idea about that. Umu, a bold Job Change, privilege of a girl... I mean, the young. I'm stuck being brawn only though.

"Oh that, you know, I was thinking about switching gear. Please don't get so mad. It's a choice I've made myself."

　This Rick-kun is getting too noisy. We're at the front gate you know? You're gonna draw all the attention, don'tcha get it?

　This campus definitely notices that even if I don't do anything.
　I passed by the still wailing Rick-kun and the front gate. He tried to move his arm in that moment... so I dislocated his shoulder. If someone got no pride, it's you.

"...You just did something right, Yuuki-kun?"
"Yes. I dislocated his dominant arm cuz he was aiming for my back. But man, guy smells like trouble."
"Un. You see, I graduated as a mage at this academy called Rahhal. He was my constant rival back then. I think he didn't like how I'm trying to become a fighter here."

　I only had 'Device Engineering' lecture in the morning, so that morning was the only time I saw Selia-san.
　But we ended up having lunch at the same time for once. She went out of her way to buy me a canned juice too.

"It's for this morning. Huh, you have a lunchbox, Yuuki-kun?"
"Oh, thanks Selia-san. Yep, I brought a lunchbox about once every two days. The guardian I'm living with is in the middle of lunchbox making training."

　There are two cute triangular rice balls and octopus wieners. Also small omelet mixed with vegetables and cherry tomatoes.

　Oh no, that makes me leap in joy it pains my chest. Oh boy... Getting called that by a girl my age feels fresh... she's probably ten year older than me being an elf and all though.

"Dunno! They had it in the recommended menu today, so I just kinda bought it."

　Someone else answered my question. I turned out and saw Kaname whom I rarely saw in this cafeteria.

"Yup, I drink that often after training. You're eating with Yuuki-kun, I see. Mind if I join in?"
"Feel free to."
"Fufu, I'm not being a third wheel here, am I?"

　Good, good, pile up those misunderstandings, Kaname.

"It's fine, it's fine, we're juts having a little chat. But it's rare to see Kaname-kun having lunch here."
"Yup, I get that. I usually eat bread at random places."
"Hee, I didn't know. Wait... you're bringing a lunchbox today, Kaname."

　His lunchbox is like the most typical 'Bento Box' like mine, but his is wrapped in a cute cloth. Huh? But doesn't Kaname live in the dorm?

"You met her the other day, remember Yuuki? My sister made it for me before she went back."
"Oo... your sister is so kind."
"Huh? You mean on Saturday? Did you two hang out together?"
"Yup, we came across each other by chance. I saw Yuuki-kun in a theater when I went there to see movies with my sister. Caught sight of him looking close with a really beautiful woman too. Your girlfriend?"

　Ooh!? He saw us... I'd love to say, 'Yep she is', but position-wise, it'd be more correct to say, 'She's my mom.'

　Heck yeah, raise that rage meter more. Mental attacks outside the match is the basic of basic in interpersonal combat.
　I didn't play fighting games with voice chat on for nothing in my original world.

"I'd like to think I've gotten stronger since I joined this lab. I'm not just gonna take it lying down when someone accused me I got no room for improvement. I'mma crush you flat, m'kay."

"So uh... Things ended up heating up somehow? It's been so long I'm kinda getting excited. So why the peanut gallery?"

　In the practice field. All other members were gathered at the bench while I was warming up in my suit.

"Sasahara-kun. I do get the impression that you have not shown seriousness nor do you obsess over winning or losing during our training as well... Selia has informed on the course of event. Your indignation comes from the right place. I must reassess my valuation of you... I shall revel your seriousness in this match."

"Calm down, Arariel. Selia-san doesn't mean anything by that, I think."

　Dang, she's a natural at it. Maybe Arariel's magic is still not quite there from a former mage's POV? ...Their matches usually involve lots of punching and kicking though.

"That should be enough warm up. Both sides, take to the field."
"Alright. I'm heading off."
"Yup, take care... Do it for real. That guy has to hit a setback once in his life... Wonder why'd he turn that way."

　Guy probably had a lot on his mind. Being a man, I know that there's a line he can't back down on too.
　But I hate that type. Grow up already, not like I'm one to talk though.

"Sensei, the damage conversion formula is working well right? There's not gonna be blood spilling, bone breaking, right?"
"Yeah, I have deployed the highest level art just in case. You can still pass out, do take care you two. You are not allowed to attack your opponent if they have been knocked unconscious."
"You heard him. Rick-kun, you got a promise to uphold."
"I loathe you imposing a term arbitrarily, but fine. I shall have you quit this lab if I win. Also... you must not get close to Selia-kun."
"That's not happening. I mean we're in the same class, and the same labs including another lab."
"Guh... It doesn't matter! Well fine. Sensei, give us the starting signal!"

　We each took a distance between us and readied our weapon device.
　I unsheathe my katana, load my mana into it and take a combat posture.
　Rick-kun seems to be of the same mind. He looks like he's ready to move anytime and not just standing around thinking it's gonna be a magic only combat like last time.

"Hee... guess it won't be like last time huh."
"This sparring match is starting. Ready, go!"

　I propelled like an uncoiled spring. I reinforced my knees to muster up my highest speed in this state.
　The scenery rapidly zoomed into Rick-kun's astonished face before a kick wrapped in a gale came my way.

"First I'll take a leg."
"Wha...!"

　I dodged by a hair's breadth and sliced at the leg. Both my kinetic vision and reflex are nothing like they were on enrollment day.
　I'm sure Rick-kun has been studying on melee combat too after his defeat on Arariel's hand.

"You're not moving. Done already?"
"Wait, wait! I can't, feel my--"
"Yeah. That's how it goes when you lose a leg."

　I swung my katana as if I was slicing off his Art Linker arm. Then I backed off and moved all over the field despite knowing he can't move anymore.
　Humans can't just vanish in and out of thin air. But it's possible to constantly get out from someone's vision to give out the same illusion. That tech I saw in games and manga can be made into reality in this world.
　Observing your opponent's eyes while running all over the battlefield. That superhuman feat is possible here.

"What! Where has he gone--Aa!"

　I won't knock him out. I'll keep sapping down his stamina until he admits defeat on his own.
　His other leg. Arm. I sliced them off one by one, sapping away the stamina.
　Rick-kun's eyes were moving frantically in an attempt to find me before they eventually stopped.

"Stop it... Please stop this... I lost, I have lost... Please come out..."
"Hm. Sensei, it's over."
"...Yea. Match end! Sasahara Yuuki. Have you got a potion?"
"Here it is."

　I fetched a potion vial from my pocket and drew it to Rick-kun's mouth in a hurry.
　He's being surprisingly obedient... Yep. You've got nothing left once you face a complete defeat, no pride no willpower no nothing. You lose the will to even fight back once you've been made aware of the sheer gap in power. That doesn't only apply to games, but real world combat too.
　The passage of time eventually helps forget after which frustration finally wells up.
　The bigger the gap, the longer the time lag. That's what I believe.

"...Uphold your promise. I know it's hard but, it's the path your rival... your friend has chosen."
"...I will uphold."

　Everybody looked at me weirdly once Rick-Kun stood up and left.

"What did you do? To me it looked like you were merely jumping around... Riiku acted like he could not see you."
"Ain't like ya were moving at super high speed either. The hell kind of trick wazzat."

　Mwu, oh right. 'Course there's no fooling enemies who watch from afar.
　This tactic only works against a lone enemy and only if they don't have a detection ability.

"I just kept running away from his line of sight. I kept track of his eye movement all the while. Like a sleight of hand, you make sure your opponent lose and forget themselves in the moment, striping any chance for them to get close or aim for you."
"Hee, I see. Yuuki-kun, you seem to know a lot of moves and strategies, especially the types that make your opponent dance in the palm of your hand. Yup, I learned a lot from this."

　I mean... My head is packed full of all kinds of entertainment media from my world.
　I see, you could say it's my assets.
　Ah, I can never thank all those incredible creators enough...

"Fumu, you have done well Sasahara Yuuki. I will have Riiku carried to the infirmary. That was quite an intriguing combat. We're returning to lab now. We shall have a review on this combat footage."

　We had no choice but to go back to our lab.
　I ended up having to explain the fighting style I showed.

　In the end, I changed the TV to a channel showing some melodrama and let it run, but then it showed a bed scene midway through and Ixia-san immediately turned the TV off while saying, 'No, Yuuki. You have to wait until you're a grown up.'
　Uh... That was so mild I was already absentmindedly watching something at that level just fine in middle school.
　Before long, it was the time for me to go back to the campus.

"I'd probably run late, you can go ahead and have dinner without me, Ixia-san."
"Is that so... I understand. The road at night is full of danger, I will go pick you up."

　Kai talked about his dorm life while we were waiting in our classroom.
　And then, Jen-sensei arrived wearing a suit instead of her usual jersey, looking unusually jittery.

"You're all here. Then... you may come in Ms. Akimiya Chairwoman."

　Sensei suddenly spoke to someone outside... To this academy Chairwoman as well as Akimiya Zaibatsu's head.
　She's got her usual mask and black long hair. Her white suit makes her look like your typical career woman.
　No really, I wonder why she's got that mask on. Maybe... there's a scar underneath or something.

"It has been a month since your enrollment. How have you been, Class SS."

　All my classmates went silent at her greeting. Even Arariel.
　Save for one... Kazuki-san is glaring hard at the Chairwoman.

"Now then... I believe I have briefed you and your guardians prior to your enrollment on the matter of a newly introduced course in our academy's curriculum, Field Training." 

　Ah, everybody had been told about it too.

"Your first Field Training will finally begin at the end of this month. This will be considered a real mission from a client. You are expected to learn and temper yourselves... This time you will serve as quasi-bodyguards."
"It's an... escort mission? Forgive me for speaking without permission."
"Ichinose-san, is it. Go ahead and proceed."

　Ichinose-san briskly spoke.

"I am wondering if an escort mission is not too high a responsibility for us students... We may possess sufficient strength and some of us might have real experience, but protecting someone else's life is a bit..."
"Yes, you're indeed right. Hence, the 'quasi-' part. A certain VIP will be heading for Nagata-chou from this Floating City. In the meantime, a relative of this VIP will be traveling inside Floating City in a different group. Your class will act together with this entourage as a camouflage seeing as you are the same age. 　Fumu. I guess that fits as a training? This class can also easily deal with enemies at pro battler level... Wait?

"You may, Sasahara Yuuki."

"Yes, you are. They are a student of Fastoria Magecraft Academy located near the gate on Grandia Side. Another student from this academy will be accompanying them as a camouflage. "...You heard her. I'm sure you're aware of the special treatment granted to you over all other classes. However, that comes with these missions and the duty to spread our names far and wide. It'll be fine, I'll be there as a backup as well."

　We all went silent at Jen-sensei's word. Special... treatment? I don't really feel like I got one. Is she talking about the school cafeteria's discount? Nah, can't be.

"If you don't have any more question, I will be adjourning this briefing."

　Doesn't seem like there's one. Well there's no avoiding taking the mission after all, and this special treatment thing is probably true given my classmates' reaction.
　...Our tuition maybe? Stuff like that and teaching material fees are paid by Akimiya in my case.

"This meeting is adjourned. It's already dark out, those who don't live at the dorm do take care on your way home. And... Sasahara Yuuki. Come to the Chairwoman Room after this."

"Uhii... That was nerve wracking. So yeah, as you heard her, you're all gonna be taking an escort mission as your Field Training at the end of this month. But it's nothing that grave really. At the end of the day, this school will bear the responsibility. You guys can just enjoy yourselves touring the city with the target of protection."
"So um... This person we're guarding is still a secret?"
"Yeah, seems so. Well apparently there's a low chance of a raid. Aren't you used to this stuff already, Kai? I heard how disciples of Ichinose Dojo have to take on escort missions and stuff."

"Err, it's been bothering me... what is that mask...?"
"Doesn't it look cool? Oh and I can take it off just fine. Like this."

　I see... I don't really get all this difficult stuff though.

　Chairwoman made a grin so obvious I could tell under her mask.

"Yes, please do so. You'd be rewarded handsomely befitting of the degree of difficulty."
"Yes, thank you very much."

　Yippee, I can probably afford an USH-made custom sheathe with it.
　Here I come quickdraw style. I am Yuuki the assassin! No no, I'm not doing that.

"That concludes this briefing. I'm glad to see you've been adapting well to your new campus life. It's actually been on my mind. There's the matter with the entrance ceremony as well."

　Chairwoman sounded like she was very tired over something that's been bugging her for a long time... She must've got it rough.
　Done with the talk, I ran past the dark eerie night school building toward the lobby on the first floor whose light was still on.

"Yuuki! Thank goodness. I could not catch you among the students going home. Perhaps you're... feeling unwell? Should we take a rest?"
"No, I was talking to the Chairwoman about my job. I'm fine, I'm as healthy as it comes. Also, I haven't heard anything about epidemic in this campus."
"Is that... so? Very well. Let's head back home together, Yuuki. Today we're having your favorite, meat stuffed bell pepper. It's a new recipe from a video. You see, instead of cutting the pepper in half, the meat is stuffed in a whole bell pepper. Fufu, I hope it is to your liking, Yuuki."

　All my concern over the mission got blown away.

"Yes. It was a recipe meant for children who dislike eating their vegetables. But Yuuki, you are not a picky eater, are you?"
"Sure am not, my grandma was super strict about it. That was too good I swear..."
"Fufu, that channel is my teacher. Allow me to visit a bookstore after we watch the movie tomorrow. The channel has published a recipe book I would love to have my hands on."
"Got it. Then tomorrow... we're leaving at eight o'clock."

　The dish Ixia-san was very confident of turned out to be meat stuffed whole bell peppers with tomato sauce. Complete with crisply sauteed french bread.
　Uumu... She must be super dexterous if she could make something this good just from watching a video.

"Ah, right. Let's pick the movie we're going to watch tomorrow together. I've made a list already."
"Fufu, so we shall. Let's do just that after I am done cleaning up."

　There's an action movie, a romance movie and a horror movie.
　None is from a series but they're all famous work made by famous directors.
　I don't really get it though.
　After she was done, Ixia-san took a seat next to me like it was only natural and peered at my smart terminal... Ah!

"Oh? Who could this girl be? Could it be the student you have been getting along well with as of late?"

　Maybe I should remove Norun-sama picture on my lockscreen... It's such a waste though.

"N, no... She's another person I'm acquainted with."
"Fumu... Deep golden hair... And dark green eyes."
"Yep, just like Ixia-san."
"...Yuuki, is she perhaps a royalty or someone related to the royal family?"
"...Eh?"
"Please forget about it if I'm mistaken. During my era, those who had these hair and eye color are those who hailed from the royal family."
"Hee... Huh? But then that means Ixia-san is--"
"...It's a coincidence in my case. I was born and grew up somewhere far away from the royal family."

　Hou... So present day royal family is related to the past royal family then.

"Come now, let's have a look at the movie list."
"Ah, yes. It's this, this and this. Personally I'd like--"

　Ixia-san requested a horror movie, an action movie featuring zombies. You're kidding me... I made the list and all but I'm not good with this one. I'm fine with horror genre but not zombies in particular.

"Fufufu... Oh I cannot wait for tomorrow. I'm already feeling giddy over the difference between a theater and a TV. Now then... let us finish today's share."
"Uu... Yes."

　And then came the moment of bliss and torture. She hugged me from behind today.
　Uu... it's warm, it's ticklish, it's dulling my mind.

"Yuuki, aren't your temperature high? It feels warm."
"R-really?"

　Probably because I'm blushing.

"...Your inner mana has been reinvigorated as of late. Do you feel any change with Physical Boost?"
"Nn... Right, it feels easier to move around than ever. I'm probably gonna have to raise the limiter level again next month."

　That side keeps growing bit by bit even though I'm training the tech side.
　Winning against Selia-san and Kai felt easier as of late.
　No really, how far will my Physical Boost grow anyway.





　It's a dream. I don't usually feel aware about my dream. Is this a lucid dream, can I take control then?
　It's a dream where I'm watching a movie while being surrounded by fruit and tasty juices.
　Uumu, I'd rather be a dream about playing game.
　Suddenly Ixia-san showed up in my dream. She took a fruit and shoved aside the peaches filling the area beside me.

『Go ahead and have more. Turn smaller and smaller. Fufu, my child, a child only for me... Come now... Let's go to your kindergarten together.』
"U, uwaa...!"

　Right as the fear of getting smaller burst open, I rapidly woke up.
　My usual room entered my view as well as--

"Fufu, are you awake now. We are leaving early today, are we not? Should we postpone?"
"Eeh... Huh, Ixia-san... right?"

　Ixia-san is standing next to my bed before I realized. She's got a cup in her hand.

"I had lapsed giving this to you before you went to bed yesterday. Here you go, the nutrient I concocted myself. It should be a good wake up drink due to its sweetness."
"Ah, that one huh. Don't mind if I do..."

　I hesitated a bit thanks to that dream.
　Uumu, isn't this stuff good enough to be a real commercial goods? I wanna stock up in the refrigerator.

"I will prepare our breakfast. Go wash your face, Yuuki. Fufu, I cannot wait to watch the movie."
"Ahaha, gotcha."

　She looks more jovial than ever I feel happy just looking at her.
　Uumu... If she's this happy now... Wonder how'll she react tonight.



"This is a bus... The last time I had ridden one was during my common knowledge training... Unlike trains, they do not have a fixed route or stops, it's very difficult."

　Forenoon. We don't have to struggle with commuting students or workers since it's a holiday but the bus is still packed full.
　We're heading to a movie theater located inside an amusement park 'Seaside Farm Akimiya'.
　It uses a VR tech known as Around View Screen. Very popular with the mass.
　A zombie movie with that kind of technology... Am I gonna make it? I seriously want to cry.

"There doesn't seem to be a lot of high rise buildings in this area. In their stead, I see plenty of markets and stores."
"It's a shopping area around these parts. They've got many specialty shops selling uncommon stuff. Not like I've been here though. Our destination is further beyond."
"I see... Looking around this area does look like it will be a fun excursion."

　It's like we're on a date, I'm feeling super motivated.
　Ixia-san is wearing a more stylish dress than usual since we're going somewhere crowded, and so am I... This outfit is stylish right?
　But it seems Ixia-san isn't too keen on skirts, she's wearing chino pants again today... Lots of people wear these chino pants these days. Too much of a boom, me think.
　As for her clothes, it's called, uh. Shirt? Blouse? It's got some frills attached. So nice, she looks like she's crossdressing from afar but it's definitely girlish up close.

"Ah, that should be it, Ixia-san."
"Ooh... That is a considerable amount of people. As you would expect of a popular tourist attraction."

　Most of the passengers on our bus got down as well. We hurried to the park entrance.
　I had to pay to enter the park and then again for the movie tickets later, but... the park entry ticket is only 400 yen. Well, you probably have to pay again at the attractions.
　Nonetheless, it's still cheap. Actually, since our home town doesn't have a lot of amusement facilities, someone's getting frolic... Ixia-san chiefly, not just me.

"Ooh... Such a big water fountain. Could that be a rail car over there? A railway suspended midair, running at that speed... How very terrifying... Ah, that's a gondola, it's going quite high up... Terrifying indeed..."

　Everything is terrifying here... By the way, she's referring to the roller coaster and the Ferris Wheel. Wonder if she's got an acrophobia?

"Let's go to the movie theater. We only have 30 minute left until the showing."
"Very well. Yuuki, do be sure you pay attention so you don't get lost. It's very crowded here."
"I'll be fine... Yes."
"Very well. Make sure you grip me tight."

　I'm gonna blush! Walking together with our hands joined! We look like a couple aren't we!? My spring is here at last!
　We made our way to the crowded theater hand in hand.



"...Whoaa, you can choose your seats from your own terminal."
"It looks difficult. I'll leave it to you, Yuuki."
"Yes. I'll take the center seats with a good view then. We're sitting next to each other."

　After buying tickets, we went straight to the screening venue.
　It's very spacious. Not only is it big, there's a wide gap between seating that leave room for viewers to move around freely. The seating can also be moved to stick closer for family and friends.
　I moved Ixia-san's seat and got it close to mine.

"What a comfortable chair. And this... beverage has a wonderful flavor to it."
"...Akimiya Original Coffee Cider... Thought for sure it'd taste weird."

　A mysterious juice. It's vexing how tasty it is. How could it taste this good.
　But I prefer cola. It's got the same color too.

"Oops, it's gonna turn dark soon. Gotta strap on."
"It turns dark? ...Ah, the light has been dimmed, I see."
"It'll get even dimmer before the movie starts."

　I'm getting nervous. What's a VR movie like and can I hold my scream till the end...!



"AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"
"Yuuki, it's okay, it's okay! Your hand, give me your hand!"
"Hiii! There's something here!"
"It's my hand, Yuuki!"

　No way, I can't this. This movie is rated R17. Of course it's scary.
　At the end of the movie, I was exhausted white with a blank mind.
　...Well I wasn't the only viewer who caused a ruckus, pretty much everybody besides Ixia-san was screaming their lungs out. Hiee... It was a pandemonium... It seriously looked like a zombie horde raided the place for real... I don't wanna do it anymore, absolutely no.

"Are you all right, Yuuki? Would you like to drink my beverage? There's still some leftover."
"Oh man, I'm so pathetic. I'll take your offer... Phew."
"That left quite an impact, didn't it. It made me recall that one time I took part in the exploration of a cursed building. These horror movies... might turn out to be addicting."
"Next time we're here... we'll definitely watch an action movie... one not scary."

　The concept of VR movie itself is a good thing. Everything feels real.

"Phew... It is somewhat bright outside. Yuuki, I need to go to the washroom for a bit."
"Got it. I'll grab a seat in that lobby there."

　I took a breather. How shameful, I gripped Ixia-san's hard all the way through before I knew it.
　I'm just happy Ixia-san looks like she had the time of her life.
　Umu umu. I gotta prepare for the next stage.
　I fetched my smart terminal and contacted a certain vendor.

"Huh? Is that you, Yuuki-kun. Are you here to watch a movie too?"

　Someone called me so I lifted my face from my terminal.
　My classmate, Yoshida Kaname-kun was there looking slightly sleepy.
　...He's with an unfamiliar woman.

"Yo, Kaname. Yup, I just got out. You too?"
"Yup. I just watched one with my elder sister. See that 'Traveling Mouse and Snack-loving King 3'. She loves the series."

　What kind of title is that. And it's even the third one... gotta be popular.

"Nice to meet you, Kaname's friend, right? Which means... you're from that class?"
"Ah, the pleasure's mine. I'm Sasahara Yuuki. We're in the same class, yes."
"Oh, you are? Please get along with this kid. He doesn't have a lot of friends."
"Un. Right, I don't have a single friend. Yuuki-kun, let's try to get along, okay."

　...He admitted it just like that. Well, gotta say... it's hard to tell what he's thinking at times. But guy's pretty easy to talk with.

"Yuuki-kun, we're going to watch another movie. I can tell you're waiting for somebody, sorry for taking up your time."
"Fufu, that's our next movie! 'Phantom Destruction - The Dead Strikes Back', it's a huge hit on the net! Fufu, see you later Yuuki-kun. Let's go, Kaname."
"Don't pull me. How many movies are you gonna watch in a day, Nee-san..."

　Ooh... So people who watch multiple movies over a day really exist out there.
　But I'm sure Kaname-kun lives in the dorm, his onee-san being here must mean... She comes to visit him.
　But that movie is seriously scary! I can't even bear to look at the brochure!

"Thank you for waiting, Yuuki. Where are we heading to next?"
"Hmm... How about we have a meal somewhere and then look around the shopping area earlier?"
"Are you fine with that? Are you not looking forward to ride that gondola and rail car?"
"Eh, are you Ixia-san? Then--"
"...No, I shall have to pass. What a terrifying thought..."

　We left the theater and then the park gate.
　There are stores inside the park as well but they're way too crowded. Also, it's my bias speaking... but the prices in these places are unusually high.
　We looked around the shopping area while trying to find a family restaurant.

"Everything visible here is an individual store... I do not think there is enough time in a day to visit them all."
"Sounds about right... Gotta prepare a list of stores you want to visit beforehand..."
"Let's pay another visit in our next outing. I would love to go out with you again, Yuuki."

　Umu, that's a surprise attack if I've ever seen any. She probably didn't mean anything by it but her remark dealt a major blow to my heart rate.

"Oh? Yuuki, I have found a restaurant. These food sample objects look as impressive as ever."

　Ixia-san gave her impression while looking at all kinds of cuisines behind a display window.
　I heard this kind of restaurants also sell souvenirs.

"Oh, it's an Italian. Err... It looks sparse enough inside, why don't we have our meal here."
"Italian... Fumu, the cuisines here look somewhat similar to my hometown made ones."
"Hee... Maybe the food culture there isn't that different from earth."
"I believe so as well. Fufu, come let's get inside."

　There's a lot of young girls inside as expected of the stylish looking exterior.
　They don't seem my age. Highschoolers I'm guessing? They look weirdly young to me even though I just graduated high school myself.
　We got our table where Ixia-san immediately took a closer look on the menu.
　By the way, I settled on a lunch set I saw at the entrance earlier.
　Mini pasta, half size pizza and a drink only for 1000 yen. Very reasonably priced.

"...How very nostalgic, I have made my choice as well. The button to call waiter should be... this one."
"What's your pick? Ixia-san."
"I will be having ratatouille and baguette. Ratatouille is very much the representative of home cooking to me."
"Hee... Even the names are the same. Wonder if Grandia has always been closely related to Earth."
"Perhaps so."

　We enjoyed a momentary respite while relishing our meals.
